DmC is canon with the rest of the series. Wait, what?

Omg... People change their looks over time. Apparently you can all agree that he changed for the better so take this for what it is: A game focusing on the origin of the man you all love so much - From the angsty teens pretty much everyone goes through and up to adulthood which is where you know him from.

Personally i've only played DmC3 and as such i don't care how he looks, i'm just getting tired of all the bitching about how his hair got black all of a sudden.

But why make him look like a meth addict looking for his next fix?
Anywyas as long as they dont fuck up gameplay or take out the over the top action i will be happy.

But if they do i will send some ticking packages to Ninja Theory HQ...

It's pretty obvious isn't it?

Dante is pretty much just hitting demon puberty.

That's why his hair is starting to change and no doubt in a few year's he'll have bulked up a little too, and changed his clothes. People can do that you know. Even half demon people.

As for personality... We don't know anything about it. He said all of one word. He's obviously still got his rebellious, nonchalant *ahem* devil may care attitude. He fuckin noogied a demon with a lit cig.

Honestly. All you whiners are beginning to get on my udders with this.

At-least let the game come out before screaming that the world has come to a bitchy, emo stop.
People will always find something to complain about. If they'd left him alone, instead it'd be bitching about how Dante still looks like he always has.

Anyways, I've never played any of the Devil May Cry series, but honestly, we still need to see how the game plays. For all anyone knows it could shape up to be among the best in the series.

Well, if you look at it as it is, that this is the young teenage Dante, then yeah, his whole look and everything fits.

For example, look at James Bond.

In the earlier movies starring the older and more experienced Bond, he's suave and debonair, real gentleman, his kills are so clean and precise that they're almost a nicety to his foes.. In Casino Royale, where we see the young Bond just starting out, he beats a man to death with a sink, and beyond that he's a bit of an a**hole, not really suave at all, just pretty much this major d**k.

Keep that in mind, now think of DMC 3. That was our youngest version of Dante before this. Now look at almost every cutscene in that game. Sure, there's a few of him being just badass, but there's more of him trying to be badass and failing at it. Take the jukebox moment from one of the first cutscenes, for instance.

Now we have this teenage Dante, even less suave, even less of the smooth badassitude. He's starting out, and he's got a huge chip on his shoulder. He saw him mom killed and apparently his brother as well, his dad's dead as well, and now he's captured by some shadowy government types. And seriously, wouldn't you expect a guy with Dante's attitude to have been a major punk as a kid? That's what this is, which explains the smoking and everything really, and especially the hair. I mean, everybody keeps talking about how it's black and how it should turn white later, what if that's not the case? What if that patch of white that everybody talks about isn't really his hair changing, but rather a spot that he missed while dying it?

My guess is that the story will focus on how Dante doesn't actually want to be a demon hunter, how maybe he just wants to be a normal kid, and how he slowly grows into the person that we see in the other games in the series.

Dante, at that point, pretty much hated Sparda, right? And we all assume that Sparda has white/silver hair, right? So what would stop a Sparda-Hating Dante from dying his hair black as a way to give his deceased father a big middle finger?

I AM HAPPY WITH THE REBOOT. D:

First of all, his appearance fits the timeline. He watched his mother be killed by demons when he was only 8, and he thought his brother met the same fate as well. He then has to grow up on his own, in FEAR. Apparently, he's also been tortured by some unknown government-like entity. Forgive the dude for not being a happy little ray of sunshine as a teenager. You can also see a splotch of white on the top of his haid... I'm willing to bet his hair will be all white by the end of the game. So far, stylistically he's still the same Dante.

Also, the whole "smoking" issue. It's pretty lame that Kamiya's initial design (who btw, never came up with the DMC3 or DMC4 Dante) just had Dante be so deadset against smoking for no apparent reason except "it's bad, kidz" (it just feels a bit hypocritical considering he kills demons for a living). Perhaps the reboot will shed light on how he comes to loath the whole schbang.
On a side note, I think it's clever they named the city Limbo. :p

I'm glad Capcom's finally had the balls to announce that DmC is cannon.

Dammit, I think this is the longest post I've ever made on the Escapist.
The thing is though, it's not a reboot if it's canon with the rest of the timeline, it's a prequel. I'm happy at that because all of the story they've actually developed and questions they've raised might actually get answered...

But I'm not happy because it'll probably never happen. And people (not you, CH) need to stop complaining about people complaining. Aesthetic change =/= Innovation. Characters are iconic for a reason, and that's usually because their look or personality breaks the mould. This just jumps back into the mould and is assimilated.

The hilarious thing is just that all they had to do is show one flash of him with white hair and no one would *****.

Ok I said this on another DmC thread and I shall just repeat it.

The story will take place before Devil May Cry 3 where Dante's demon powers have not fully developed yet from his big sword, hence no white hair or...big sword. He generally gets into trouble alot, hence the police/government interogating him in the trailer. However once his Mother is killed by a demon invasion force, he goes out to gets revenge, finds the Rebellion sword, gets his white hair and probably miffs off Virgil because he doesn't get white hair, they have a fight and set up Devil May Cry 3's rivalry.

People can't look over the fact he's looks different. And the my theory above will be near enough correct if Ninja Theory want to keep canon.

I realize I'm heavily outnumbered, but I actually kinda like Dante's new look.. way too many super macho and bulky main characters these days, who look like they've been living on a diet of steroids and raw meat.. btw, I would say that he looks more like a hipster than an emo, if that matters..

this shit also happened with MGS2, which got shat all over because of Raiden being physically feminine looking,
Actually, Raiden was hated because he was a whiney, boring prick who spent more time arguing with his girlfriend than stealthing.

Eh. I'm sure they'll twist it into him turning into the full demon type character like in 3 or something. Though, I don't get how in 2 years, one goes from a scrawny little ***** to a well built pizza loving wise cracking devil hunter...

WOO HOO!

Finally, a piece of good news. Now, we just need some actual gameplay footage, and I have a very good chance of being happy with this.
You're easy to please.

My biggest question was if this happened before or after DMC3, which THEY DIDN'T ANSWER. Seriously Ninja Theory, fuck you guys.
Um...pretty sure they did. It's before.

I do agree actually, problem is a lot gamers don't want realistic, they want someone badass and interesting!

I like a mix between the two, personally.

Personally, im not too bothered with the new style for this game, could be quiet interesting. Although i will agree with some its quiet a big change from the original DMC's but i guess thats what they call progression. Right now though i think some people are jumping ahead and assuming stuff about the game like the idea that characters from the first games might not be in there or that his story is completaly different, ect....Well i think its a bit early to say stuff like that since all we've had is a teaser trailer with no gameplay, no proper clues towards stoyline and no hints as to possible reacuring characters.

so i think il just wait for gameplay footage to properly make judgement on this game

just my opinion folks

It's actually Dontay, Dante's retard cousin. ** This discovery was made by some guy on YouTube and I fully agree with the man :D

Also I've already spoken into detail in some other post how I feel about this change (I'm a gonna be disliking it m'kay).

New Dante looks crap and nothing anyone can say will convince me otherwise.

I'll stick to 3 if it's all the same to everyone else.

If they claim that this new DmC is canon than I'm 99% sure that guy from the teaser trailer wasn't the actual Dante.

I followed this trail of thought at first, but interviews of the devs themselves indicated that this is in fact, THE Dante.
