Well I'm a guy and I've put on about 30 pounds of muscle in the last year. Honestly I can say that I've been getting a lot more attention from the ladies since the muscle gain. The thing about it is that girls like to see toned muscle, so you dont necissarily have to be a big guy. Also it doesnt hurt to have a six pack. To give you an idea I'm 5'10 and 182 pounds at 8% body fat. Im not a huge guy but I sit at a body weight that seems natural and fit. You should consider aiming for the same thing. Firse find your ideal bodyweight relative to your height and then gain about 5-10 more pounds more than that. This needs to be lean muscle weight and not fat weight as it makes you look more healthy and actually is more healthy.
All that aside, I have also found that most of the attention I get is from shallow girls. Trust me when I say that the attention is nice but these really arent the girls you want to spend lots of time with. Just try to find a girl that likes you for you. Theres plenty of fish in the sea so keep on fishin.
ALSO, this is actually a terrible question for any dude to ask. The answer is plain and simple, for the most part YES. Sad but true. No matter how many times you ask this question it wont change the body that YOU have. So basically you gotta work with what you got and not worry about wether or not your ideal. Eventually somebody will think your perfect.
Ugh... a muscle head... I hate those guys.
One does not need to be tone. If it works for you, fine, but its unnecessary, and for some of us, impossible.
I'd be willing to bet quite a bit of money that your increase in female attention comes more from you being much more comfortable with your body than you were before hand.
On a side note... you used to weigh 152 at 5' 10"? Shit. I'm 5' 10", and if I go below 190 I look like a cancer patient, no matter how much weight training I do (Actually floating around 210 now though, due to some physical issues and the fact that I don't give much stock to looking good. I'm still more physically fit than alot of people that weigh much less than I do, barring cardio [Chronic Bronchitis is a *****]).

It's also my own personal preference. And I do love being tall! Promise!
I once dated a girl who was 6'6" (Compared to my 5' 10"). It was... weird. We both felt awkward. So I understand why you'd have to find one massive guy to date.
Also: Last week, at a Ball where I was ushering, I got the dirtiest look in existance from a tall women. Her chest was where everyone's head is supposed to be, and while I was scanning the crowd for someone, I got into a staring contest with her boobs.
She was not pleased.
