Not really. Things have got to happen to someone so why not you? Although my Aunty has a freakish amount of good things happen for her.

Not in any superstitious way, no. I believe that people get lucky, but not that people are lucky. For example, a guy that wins big at a casino got lucky. If he thinks he's on a hot streak all of a sudden, or thinks that he is lucky, he's an idiot.

Luck doesn't exactly line up with my religious beliefs, but I know some part of me does believe in luck. It's just fun to, you know?

I believe that nobody can know everything therefore the best way to appreciate some scenarios is to assign them probability's based on what you think should happen
and if something 'unusual' happens just call it bad luck or vice versa
so yes I believe in luck from a technical standpoint only, it's rather inaccurate but then so is rounding pi and we do that daily

Well, it depends on how you define it. Good fortune? Yes, of course that exists. Random chance, good or bad? Yes, of course. If you want to think everything is predestined, that is fine. Just think what that means though.

I heard a math grad student bring this up about a year ago. Luck is actually mathematically provable. I have no idea what it is, but all I know is that was said.

Advertising
...Who bothers advertising for a 41 year old novel? It's just a book recommendation based off of the topic at hand. I'd second the recommendation. Niven touches on the topic from a pretty interesting perspective.

A bit of a silly one when you think sit back and think on it. But certainly an interesting one.

I do believe that good/bad things happen to people for reasons outside of their control, but I do not believe that this happens because of some cosmic force like luck.

So no.

Luck is a substitute word for coincidence, in my head. In that sense, I do "believe" in luck. Every coincidence has a reason, as every effect has a cause. I don't believe it is guided by some sort of force or some other 'unexplainable' thing.

Oh.. and All hail Urthdat!

If we are going by this definition...Success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.

I would say that winning a lottery is based off of luck. So is getting a 100% on a multiple choice test by bubbling randomly.

But if you were thinking along the lines of...lucky=winning 80 games of poker in a row and that there must have been magical powers from a plant involved in that 80 win streak...that I don't believe in.

I don't believe in fate I believe in destiny
The way i see it there are three possibilities, Chaos, Fate, and Destiny. In Chaos things happen for no rhyme or reason. In Fate(or luck for that matter) Shit happens and its just they Universe playing itself out and there's nothing will come of it and there is nothing you can do about it. But with destiny, shit still happens but it preparing you for something or guiding/changing you to be a better person. There is an overall plan and things will get better.
