yeah this kinda sums it up. I personally think microsoft is a better gaming and internet browsing system while Mac is a better developer system (when you actually find developement programs desgined for it)

All that aside, I think the whole hate for microsoft stems from the fact that its a corporation, plain and simple.

I dissaprove of some of the thigns microsoft has done, but not nearly as much as some other companies *awkward stare at sony*

I don't mind Windows. Still pissed that my 360 is broken though, not buying another one.

But I hate Games for Windows Live. Thankfully, not many games I like use it, but there's still a few. :\

1. Windows is BEYOND bloated. It needs to go on a crash diet. The only reason I'm using it is DirectX, if Linux natively supported it I would be on Ubuntu by now.
2: The xBox 360 is an unreliable piece of shit. This is why I haven't bought one. Good library, if it works it's fun, but the damn things need their warranty far too much for me to think any higher of them. The best warranty in the world is the one you never need to use, and I dare you to come up with any logic saying otherwise.
3: XBL is a paid service. Why the fuck should I pay to play online when I can do so for free on the other two platforms?!
4: They skullfuck free DLC. They pick through game-fixing patches making sure there's nothing that could be considered DLC. They FORCE devs to charge for DLC. Just ask any 360 TF2 player who's seen the PC and PS3 versions what that's like...
5: Internet Explorer is the shittiest browser available today. It follows maybe half of the standards other browsers follow, it's laggy, it's bloated, it doesn't have an ad blocker, and it's generally blah.

There's five good reasons I want to give them some smacks upside the head.
1.) Windows may be bloated, but if you're running a modern gaming computer, it should be more than capable of handling it. Also, Ubuntu uses GNOME for a desktop environment, and that one's not exactly the lightest, either.

2.) My hard drive has failed me, but my Xbox 360 itself hasn't. Granted, I didn't buy the system at launch, when there were many more issues. If you buy a new one, today, however, you probably won't have a problem.

3.) ...Well, you got me on that one. Microsoft's easy path to money. I don't like that, myself.

4.) Two parts:
a.) I feel the pain...TF2 on the Xbox 360 is still a fun game, but knowing that there's all of these things I'm missing out on...sad.
b.) You can't blame Microsoft alone on the DLC situation. They might have started the trend, but if it's all Microsoft's fault, then why is there pay-for DLC on the PS3 and PC?

5.) I'm not certain if you were aware, but Internet Explorer 9 has been available for Windows Vista and 7 since March 14 of this year. From my understanding, it renders websites per the standards, and if not per the standards, very closely to them. It's not laggy or bloated, it doesn't have ad blocking support by name, but you can always use this [http://quero.at/adblock_ie_tpl.php]. The interface is...passable. It wastes a little space at the top, but otherwise is very minimal.

And Apple isn't a corporation...?

Microsoft is a fairly typical corporation. You might not agree with what it does at all times, but you can't ignore the fact that it is very lucrative. I like Windows 7, and Internet Explorer 9 is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, they'll continue to improve in other areas. (We're looking at you, Games for Windows Live.)

Not really, but then again I don't pay attention. I'm more keen on disliking Nintendo for their pricing strategy.

What do people mean when they say that windows is bloated?
Does it mean that it have too many "features" that we do not use? Is it the fact that it requires higher system specification compares to before?

The only tech company I prefer to Microsoft is Google.

And I only like Google so much because they create cool free random shit that I enjoy messing about with.

I can't even fucking message people as a "Free" XBL member. And EVERYTHING requires Gold.

At least Sony doesn't make all of it's discounts and sales PS Plus only. And invent it's own silly currency. Sony's weekly main sale is available to everyone. Imagine is Steam had a "premium" service required to access it's sales?

WHY THE FUCK DOES NETFLIX REQUIRE GOLD?

inb4atleastMSdoesntgethacked

I was going to go back to Xbox Live Gold again...but now, after seeing exactly how little respect they show non-Gold members...Fuck 'em.

But, they're in it for the money...like every other business...So, I can't bash 'em too much.

And as for the non-gaming side of their business, I quite like them.
Wow your explanation resumes almost everything i wanted to say, i used to like Microsoft when it made Age of Empires and stuff... that was like in the 90's and 2000's, like the really early 2000's; then they got Avaricious.

Well, I prefer them over Apple because Microsoft is like "Yeah were a freaking behemoth of a corporate empire, what of it?" while Apple tries to go "Oh, were the Under dogs and stuff! Were the cool slick ones, not like those dull Microsoftians..." even though they're both giant corporate empires.

I have to say "Yes", but it doesn't have anything to do with a 360, it's their software arm that has soured me on the company as a whole.

I was a Java programmer for a long time, and Microsoft tried to kill Java, so I took that personally. The industry saw Java as something that was sorely needed at the time, whereas Microsoft viewed it as a threat, and rather than try to compete with it, they attempted to eliminate it. If you look up "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish", you'll find many examples that show this was a strategy often used by Microsoft.

So while it seems all big companies behave unethically to certain degrees, very few seem to use their dominance to actively destroy their competition and stifle innovation. But hey, I'm sure if other companies were in the monopolistic position that Microsoft is in, they'd be tempted to behave just as badly, and certainly Apple seems well on the way to becoming the new Microsoft (admittedly with more reliable products).

Hate 'em. Vista was an immense flop, they only think about money, Windows updates from SP3 onwards eat the shit out of older PC's running SP2 as default.

My 2 year old, never even considered breaking, only crashed once and that was in New Vegas Xbox360 and I would like to disagree with this point.

I run vista. Never had a problem.

OT: Because people like to hate on big corporations. any multinational evilcorp gets flak for what they do and don't do. I imagine if it upsets the board they just go and withdraw a billion dollars to fill a swimming pool to make themselves feel better.

Depends on what OS you're using. No one will argue that Vista is packed full of useless shit, but Win7 on the other hand is the best thing since XP and totally worth upgrading to. Also depends on how well you're computer can run it.

2: The xBox 360 is an unreliable piece of shit. This is why I haven't bought one. I fail to see how you can say this with a straight face when you've never actually owned one. The new Slims and most of the old Elites, Pros and Arcades were all upgraded from the Falcon chipset to the Jasper chipset in October 2008, effectively eliminating the RRoD unles something is really wrong with the console. RRoD warranty is still extended to 3 years for all consoles, so the only major issue the console has is disc drive failure (which I've had myself). No one will disagree that it's best if you don't need to use the warranty but everything breaks, including PS3s and PCs.

3: XBL is a paid service. Why the fuck should I pay to play online when I can do so for free on the other two platforms?!
Not this shit again. Allow me to quote myself from a previous thread:

MercurySteam said:
The obvious things that Microsoft use the money for its server maintenance (and yes, security updates can be paid for too) plus the addition of Netflix and other media streaming stuff that very few people use (still, it's there). One thing may of us LIVE users noticed with the new dashboard update (apart from it looking a bit stupid) was that downloads were fiercely faster, perhaps to keep up to speed with N protocol wireless or just to improve the experience for all of us. My point is that in the long term, it makes LIVE a better experience for us which I am more than happy to pay around $80AU every 12 months
4: They skullfuck free DLC. They pick through game-fixing patches making sure there's nothing that could be considered DLC. They FORCE devs to charge for DLC. Just ask any 360 TF2 player who's seen the PC and PS3 versions what that's like...
No this isn't Microsoft's fault, it's the publisher and sometimes also the developer of said game. People have been hating on EA for awhile on this, but you can't blame both so make up your mind.

5: Internet Explorer is the shittiest browser available today. It follows maybe half of the standards other browsers follow, it's laggy, it's bloated, it doesn't have an ad blocker, and it's generally blah.
Nobody's arguing with you here and nobody's forcing you to use it.

I'll give you the PC half, but the free Playstation Network? As in, that Playstation Network... I think XBL is worth the price when compared to the past fortnight.

I don't exactly dislike Microsoft, but I don't love them either. After being stuck with Windows ME for two years I've seen some of the very worst they've done (wasn't around for 3.1) but as a current Windows 7 user I've also seen the quality they're capable of. Sure there are a lot of complaints peopel can make about Windows 7, but people can make a lot of complaint about almost anything in the world, and in almost two years of use I've had something like three BSODs on my current computer. Gotta count for something.

I've also been an XBox user since the launch (or maybe relaunch? Don't know) of Xbox Crystal and I've rarely had faults with my xboxs. I take a little care of them, give them good ventilation and don't pick them up while they're running, and I've only had one or two hardware failures, each of which fixed itself after shutting down the console fully and unplugging it for half an hour (though admitedly my origional xbox never failed, ever. Only the 360).

No, like any company they want money. Why would I crucify them for wanting what every other company wants?

They charge money for xbox live, doesn't mean ya gotta buy it.

No. They've done nothing to personally harm me. Relied (mostly) on their OS, grew up with it and know it better than any other OS out there. They've had some shitty ideas and shitty products, but what company hasn't? Never had a problem with my Xbox, actually, never had it red ring and never really had a problem with Live either.

People have consumer horror stories about them, sure, but that applies to just about any company that cannot appease every little demand of the customer. Like any other company out there that are supposed to be hated by the hive mind of that section of the internet- most of the time the company's flaws do not outweigh the successes or times where everything went on without any significance.

The thing is, that Microsoft would have never ever done Kinect, if Nintendo hadn't started the whole motion control thing.
Kinect was being called project natal(well technically It wasn't announced yet and did not have a name but whatever) before the wii was announced.
