meh not really

i once played a guy in AOE2 who build himself in with walls so i had the way superior resources
i build hundreds of cheap units to smash against his walls just for fun and to show him who has the way upper hand in this

If it's one of those scenarios where you only have a handful of units, then yeah. I blame Fire Emblem. Dammit, permadeaths!

In civilization, I don't get mad if I lose a couple units in pursuit of conquering a city, but if it's on defense, it irks me quite a bit to say the least. If I lose a city, I rage-quit and start a new game

i feel bad losing sentries in tf2, especially if they've been up for a long time. i was almost in tears once when a spy sapped my entire base while my retarded teammates ignored him. then he stabbed me. i went to the other team and killed every single one of them for revenge.

Only when the units are given any sort of character. Starcraft? Worst I'll get is annoyance for a failed attack. Fire Emblem though? Yeah, I go out of my way to keep even the characters I can't stand. Partly that's pride, partly because I'll still get some emotional pang from even them.

Fire Emblem.

And im not talking that New fancy pants DS version where your characters are thrown around like paper and no one talks to you, im talking about Eliwood, Lyn and Hector, the three of them developing a bond that nothing can shatter. and not to mention the many other characters, all of whom were given emotional baggage....God, if lost even a single unit, I shut off the game. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't leave a man behind.

It took my years to beat the game.
it's also just a good idea strategically to avoid loss at all costs, or the end of the game is going to be hard as hell.

Yes. Most of the time it's just OCD playing up, because it means I don't have an 100% full army/unit.

I feel bad about it, yeah. Forced me to think very strategically in Rome: TW.
I know what you mean there, I worked a lowly soldier all the way up to general/family member and I lost him to the damn Brutti or /we they are called. I shed a tear for him.

Rage is a pretty common feeling for me. Especially with smaller scale strategy games where each guy is an individual. I downright refuse to leave people behind sometimes. Even when it would be easier just to hire some replacements.

I am sad when they haven't done anything because then it was a waste. As they as they did what I made them for then I could not care less.

It depends. If it's just another Victory or Imperial Class Star Destroyer (for example) in Empire at War then no. If it's something bigger and more valuable it might annoy me a tad. On the other hand, if it's a legion in Rome: Total War that is all XP'd and gold-weaponed up then yes.

Normally I do feel a bit bad at losing units. I ideally would like to keep all of my units from start to end no matter what the mission. The thing is, I feel bad, but it is not so much that I will get really upset over it. It is more the fact that keeping all of your units means that you won, and it is and impressive feat. Keeping all of your units means that you have the maximum ammount of power - you have all the help you can get and know that you are in a much better position than the other team or side you are fighting.
It is basically like how I feel in a game where health or energy does not regenerate rapidly, or over time. I guess I can go on with out some troops or units, but I would much rather be topped off all around. I guess if you only start with three or four other units it might get to me a bit more. In that case, losing one or two nearly puts me up against an entire army left. I also suppose if one of those guys happens to be my best life-saving friend or the undeniable superman wizard of all units, I will also get a bit upset due to him probably being the strongest unit in the game. The thing is, normally there are many, many more units and while I will wish I would not have lost that one unit awhile back, I am not going to restart the entire game when I only have to kill a few more enemies to win.

Depends on whether or not it's a game where I can restore the squadron to full strength (possibly with more experience now).

Otherwise, not at all. In most of the TW games, I have even been known to send in a group, knowing they will be killed so I can flank whoever is killing them.

It depends on how long I've had the unit, and if its a game where the units gain experience. In Fire Emblem I can get pretty attached to units(Franz FTW) but in games like Sins of a Solar Empire its to impersonal to get to attached.

I only feel bad if it's an important unit. And it's more anger than an emotional attachment.

For example: Lose a pawn in chess. Oh well.

Lose a bishop in chess. NOOOOOOOO
Pretty much this. A marine?
A Marine? Meh.
A Battlecruiser? FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU!
