Do you get upset if Yahtzee trashes a game you like?

To be honest, I haven't even played 90%(or more) of the games he has reviewed.

Even when he does review a game that I played (and liked), the things he points out are usually things that I also didn't like about the game.

Nope.
I watch Zero Punctuation because its funny, if it's a game I like then it's even funnier.
Besides Yatzhee is a critic not a reviewer, it's his job to point out all the flaws and he does it in such a funny way.
I do find his legions of fan boys a bit weird but hey that's the internet for ya.

He hasn't really touched anything I like since he stays as far away from JRPGs as possible and that is sorta my forte (FF13 is the worst game ever made), but no it doesn't bother me. Yahtzee's reviews may be a bit exaggerated but they are not unfair.

I think a very important aspect of being a mature video gamer is to realize no game (or demographic) is perfect. It has flaws and being able to look at those flaws and either accept them or laugh at them, rather than going into denial about it to convince yourself that you spent $60 on "teh best gaem evar", is necessary to really enjoy the media and to find stuff that is of true quality.

In all honesty...

Not one damn bit. I actually appreciate it when he destroys a game that I like. Usually it's much more relatable.

Never, if anything I appreciate him pointing things out. I'm not a critic, I usually don't think too hard about the bad things in a game.
I loved Dragon Age 2, Yahtzee pointed out some flaws that I hadnt really thought about, or if I had, hadn't considered important. I still play it sometimes, it hasn;t totally ruined the game, just made me consider my opinion more closely

No, but I get offended when I feel he is being soft on a game. Seriously, he seems to be going soft with the last 2 episodes...

No.

There are a few times I've felt he's been a bit unfair about one thing or another, but its never been enough for an episode to leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. If Yahtzee considered himself a reviewer rather than a critic I might feel differently but he's quite up front about where he's coming from and what his intentions are.

I'd say that getting upset about Yahtzee's opinion is a pretty fruitless effort in and of itself, just as much as it would be to let anyone else's negative opinion about a game that you liked frustrate you. If you liked a game, then by all means, you shouldn't care about others' judgements of the game. I have a friend who liked playing Fable 3, while I hated its guts. We got into a discussion about why our opinions differed and it was quite informative and civil. She admitted to some of my complaints about the game being well-founded and I admitted to the some of the points about how the game was enjoyable.

The point I'm trying to make is that it's perfectly OK to be part of the Fandom of a video game; just don't let your defensiveness towards that game turn into FanDumb.

Nah, dont be upset, usually he is right about his criticism to call whatever he says "his oppinion" is idiotic, because whatever he says is bound on what the game is like.

Not usually no.
He has an opinion. It's as pointless as any other persons opinion.
He rips on games that he likes, just as he would for games that he doesn't like.
It's his schtick.
If he did a review where he just praised it the entire time, I'd be confused.

On occasion I get annoyed if some of his complaints are unjust or unwarranted.
But, really. Who cares?

Yahtzee hates JRPGs.

I love JRPGs.

You get used to the trashing. And during the trashing he does bring up valid points. FFXIII was kind of linear, but a little bit in it opens up and lets you run around. And if you're not dedicated enough to go through every linear bit to finally get to an open place where you can do what you want, DON'T PLAY A JRPG.
Map of FF13 |----------------------------------------------()--|. Don't try to pass off that one part as "open". We know it isn't. It is the Safari Zone from Pokemon; a closed off field with a few unique, hard to catch species. Nothing more. You can't do what you want. The entire area adds absolutely nothing to the actual game except grinding and "Kill Named Monster X" missions ripped right from the FF14 design plan. Pulse is "wide" it is not "open" and it deeply, deeply saddens me that people are calling it such.

Giving up on something isn't a lack of dedication by the player, ESPECIALLY when it is in a genre they enjoy. It is the failure of the developer to create something worth playing.

Not really. Even games I have fanboy gushiness over I tend to overall agree with his points. He points out goofy things I may not even notice on the playthrough, but once he mentions it, I tend to realize what he is talking about, and how cheesy/weird/stupid it was. Never effects my opinion towards the game itself though.

Nope, I usually just

along with all the haters.

I don't watch Yatzhee for his opinions, I watch his "reviews" for their humor. Often the games' problems are far, far too exaggerated to be an accurate review.
I think Agent Smith just found the Ring of Power.

OT: Nope, I always laugh harder because I try to appreciate it when somebody shits on something I love. Unless it's my pets. Then they get the discipline stick.

I don't get upset, just a bit frustrated. Did anyone remember why he disliked portal 2? Because it wasn't portal 1? X_X.

I don't think people are suppose to take his reviews seriously, which is why I never watch them anymore.
Just browsing through the answers really and I thought I'd just put this one straight. He didn't actually dislike Portal 2. In fact during the review he said, and I quote: "Is Portal 2 good? Yes." He just also said that it wasn't as good as Portal 1. Tha't seems like a perfectly valid opinion to have to me. =/

What's my answer to the question? Well, I agree with what most people seem to have posted heve already. It doesn't bother at all, because my own opinions are not based on his and personally I find it enlightening to hear about things from a different angle.
And the thing is, I actually like Yahtzee's reviews, because they remind me quite a lot of columns, in the sense that the writer knows that he's being subjective about the matter. And this results in Yahtzee himself freely acknowledging his bias so that he can fully explain his own thoughts.
Also I feel that Zero Punctuation may be the best frame of reference for any game out there. Because being faced with such a harsh critic like this means that games have to actually work for it with innovation and storytelling rather than mere graphics and nostalgia to be praised for their efforts. In short, it's because he trashes so many games, that the ones that make it through the cut are really fun to play.

(Yay, 7th post. Keeping track of my posts here.)

I dont mind his opinion, its how he phrases it sometimes that annoys me. Example, his Killzone 3 review. He says its just made to make America look good and that we will be slaves to china soon, but he left out the fact that killzone 3 is made by guirrila games which is based in Amsterdam. He said the single player sucks shit, which in my opinion THE STORY does, but the gameplay doesnt. He also left out how fun the multiplayer is which annoys me.

Or his Demons Souls review, he left out the multiplayer and trashed the game claiming its to hard, but leaves out the fact that Demons Souls is a game of trial and error. Its not so much the rating or opinion he has on it, but how he only plays for a bit, claims it either rules or sucks, and derives himself of a great experiance.

I respect him alot but some of his reviews just make me facepalm sometimes.
his job is to hate game so that is what he does an as for your multiplayer comment he never plays multiplayer as he believes games need to stand up on there single player (see the halo 3 review for that)
