I dislike playing as female characters if the character itself is shit. Same as male characters.

Care to elaborate? I'm interested in knowing why.
Read his posts on page 1. He says something about games with female protagonists being too "girly" for him, and how he only likes "Real Hardcore" games (none of which have female protagonists, apparently).

No, it doesn't make sense to me either.

Also, please define what you mean by "Real Hardcore" games.
The first thing that comes to my mind is Dark Souls, but then I remember that that's technically a JRPG, therefore it must be Girly.

Damn those Girls, they're getting all the good games! *shakes fist*

OT: When a game allows for customization of the main character, I tend to make female characters. Either that or brands of the two main characters I had in World of Warcraft for the longest time. But yeah, I like to play as female characters even when it doesn't really bear any relevance on the game's story or anything, because it's just a nice change of pace. For instance, I really appreciated that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Bravo Seven Charlie Five) allowed for personalization of your character which extended even into the campaign mode, so I made a lass because I don't think I've ever played a "realistic" shooter where the main character was a woman.

Nope, While I may play as a male 90% of the time I've got no objection to playing a female character.

Without further explanation I'll just assume you have certain issues with the opposite sex (as well as JRPG's apparently). To answer your question no I don't mind playing as a woman or someone of color/LGBT/child/alien/etc either for that matter. As long as the game is done right I don't care. If I have a choice I play as a woman usually. Why, you ask? Because I like it that way.

Reading the OP I wonder if this might be bait for us so baitable SJWs...But as someone who gives the benefit of doubt I consider this not bait.

So...
1. Why do you "refuse" to play such games? Are you really afraid you could hurt you masculinity if you don't play the most badass male ever? Than you masculinity can't be very stable. And your definition of "girly" Games...Disney Princess Games are Girly...and that's not even a bad thing. But JRPGs? Do you really believe that every game that isn't full of muscles, blood and huuuuuge men grunting while shooting other men in the face isn't malsculine enough to be played by you?
Sorry. I don't want to offend you. Really. But I just hoped people like you a just a cliché.

2. I have pretty much a 50-50 Ratio. If I have a Choice I choose male or female pretty even. Okay...maybe 40-60. Because sometimes I just like to play as my own Gender. (One more reason to offer a female option, because maybe some girls also want to play as their own gender).
In Games where I don't have a choice: I don't really care about the Gender. Or well...I do not judge the quality of a character from it's Gender. I notice it and think about what the charakter sais and does and not what's between her/his legs.

3. Same Points for Skincolour,Sexual Orinationn Planet/Country/Dimension of Origin.

I did want to try a second playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy as a female, but unfortunately the voice actress is cringe-worthy, so that didn't happen. But eh.
Blasphemy! I challenge you to a duel good sir, in that I may defend Mrs Hales honour!

In all seriousness though, really? You found BroShep to be a better voice actor than Femshep? BroShep just sounded like someone sent him his lines with no context, he sat there and read them off one by one in the same mood, then sent the recordings back to Bioware. BroShep actually killed ME for me when I first played it because he was soooo dull. Femshep caused me to fall in love with the series.

Your view of her "trying too hard to sound badass" may just stem from the fact that she's got a slightly more "gravelly" voice than average for female voice actors. Not much, but enough for it to sound different enough to be odd. That's just how she sounds. Personally I love her voice, enough to elicit a small squee of excitment anytime she turns up in something.

As long as the character's good, not at all. I was really happy when I got to play Ellie in The Last of Us, and Lara Croft in Tomb Raider 2013 was freaking badass.

I almost exclusively play as male characters in any game where I have to make my own (though I do have one or two female characters scattered about in various games). I generally don't like to play as female characters, and this dislike is proportional to how much character they are given.

Voiceless characters a la MMOs and TES games are generally decent because I can imagine the character myself, but if they're a significant or lead PC in a grand story, I just can't bring myself to play them; primarily because the industry has a tendency to handle them poorly, either by oversexualising them, or making them horrible, unlikable charicatures and stereotypes instead of actual people. I can handle this type of character if they are used sparingly as NPCs, but as the central focus of a game? No thanks. Maybe if the industry grew up a bit and treated the female characters it creates with more respect I could get behind it - and I'm sure there are examples out there that I'm not privy to (Edit: Ldude893 posted as I was typing, and cited two examples that were in the back of my mind for me - thanks.) - but I don't see that happening for a long time.

In a game where the protagonist is predetermined, I really don't care as long as I like the character.
However, when making a custom character, I tend to play a male. There are exceptions, though, most notably if I don't like any of the appearances for males (see: Phantasy Star Portable).

I usually play female characters, if anything because it is more impressive. Sure, I could be a big burly dude fighting away big burly dudes with big and burly big burly dude powers.

OR I could be a dainty female managing to fend of armies of men twice her size.

That is much more gratifying.

I play female protagonists as often as possible because they have prettier clothes. Yes I am that shallow. Though if the abilities of the character are tied to their gender (such as in Borderlands) good abilities overrule pretty clothes.

I'm trying to figure out if, by chance, this is a not-so-well-disguised troll topic.

Let me put it this way: male privilege. If you don't want to play as a female character in videogames, you can do so. If I don't want to play as a male character in videogames, I might as well change hobby.

I don't mind playing as men. Pretty much all women who play games don't, because they kind of have to a lot of the time. However, I'd like more set lady protagonists. And whenever it's a game with any kind of personalisation/customisation of character, I generally go female for my first playthrough.
Preach it!

OT: I don't get people who need to play male players. I don't play games just to emulate myself into them. I can play games where I play through the minds of another character. Are people not able to watch a movie with a female lead?

I don't give a damn what gender the main character is. If the game is one that gives me the ability to create my own character, I make a mental mock up of the character's abilities and personality, and choose gender from there. Both are fun. Lately a good majority of characters I make tend to be female though.

Yeah I hate it. Bloody women ruined politics and religion now they're ruining my games.

To be honest as long as the character is cool/likeable I don't mind which gender. I do tend to angle towards huge men with massive muscles if possible though, I like barbarian classes and all that.

Let me know if I've misunderstood anything here, but from what you've been saying, you seem to be implying that women can't be "badass".
