Do you smoke? Could you explain this thing?

1 - Well, what makes anyone decide on any kind of brand when it comes to consumption - taste, price-range,... hell, the color of the package/pack, name, design... I, personally, like my smokes heavy, dense and saturating. I also like to smoke after or during certain activities, so I like my smokes long and drawn-out (that's the 100's for ye non smokers), so I've been sticking with the good old-fashioned Marlboro 100's Filter Cigarettes.

2 - Practically everything that's been available for purchase where I live or during my travels. I was rolling my own for a while, then I got patriotic and stuck with the local blends for a while. I've tried cigars, a pipe (which is awesome, but I figure later on when I am older, have a great big beard and a lot of stories to tell... right now I am just too young to smoke a pipe), electronic... I made it a point to try any brand that I could get my hands on, because if you're gonna do something, you might as well do it thoroughly.

3 - If by order you mean "buy from the shop" - most of the time, yes, i guess... It's a habit and unless you have it in your mind to try something new you'd stick to what you know you like. Kinda like gaming - you'd try that shiny new shooter, maybe even like it for a while, but when you get bored or see that it's not better than your preferred one or you've just gotten so used to the old one, you get right back in there. Or maybe the new shooter wins you over and you decide to play that from now on.

4 - I guess I already explained that. To put it simply - once you find a brand you like there is little reason to keep experimenting.

1.Yes. Mainly price, mediated by strength.
2.Pretty much all the common ones.
3.nope, not even close in my experience.
4.Yeah I guess.

You think they're expensive over there?! Lemme ask you a question, how much does a pack of 20 cost? In Sunny UK, they cost $5 FFS! .
Shit you must live in the country. In central london you're lucky to find them under £7.

1A.Not anymore apparently. Had a break for 2 months, yesterday had one cig from my roommate, damn that was disgusting. I'm considering dropping smoking entirely. I usually stick to L&M Silver or One (lightest ones), maybe that's why it was so bad.
1B.The taste mainly. Price wasn't that big of a deal, because at a peak I smoked pack in a week and such rate isn't money consuming.
2.Plenty, when I go to store there isn't any brand I haven't tried at least once.
3.Yes, most do.
4.Once and a while yes. If I see someone with different brand of smokes I haven't tried yet, I'll ask one or barter it. But buying whole pack of unknown cigarettes is just dumb. Because they are expensive and if you don't like them, then you are forced either finish that pack (and torture yourself in the process) or throw it out (another way of taking 5$ bill and lighting it up). That's why when you're buying you don't want to gamble and stick to what you know is good.

1. Do you smoke? Okay, so what made you decide on the brand and particular flavor you use?
I don't *now* but I did smoke for 15 years. I used to roll my own using Cutter's Choice mostly. Or I went to the tobacconists and got Coffee or Cherry Vanilla tobacco. (Cherry Vanilla was lush)

2. And how many other brands and flavors have you tried?
Many many many different ones.

3. Is it true that smokers always order the same kind of cigarettes?
No although you tend to get a "favourite" brand based on cost and flavour.

4. Why? Isn't it more fun to try something new once in a while?
Er :/ You've assumed that everyone is going to say yes to 3 :p

1. Mainly use snuff, but I smoke when I'm outside. Chose the brand(L&M or Level) because they're among the cheaper ones.
2. Many... Hard to pinpoint.
3. They pretty much all taste the same anyways, so yeah.
4. Shared answer with above.

So you come onto a thread obviously for those of us who have a habit you hate to demonstrate your contempt for them? Awesome job dude.

Im sure that telling all smokers out there that theyre stupid, unattractive, idiots and you hate them makes soooooo many of them hang on your every word of wisdom.

OT

1. I do smoke - Golden Virginia. Since I smoke roll-ups in the UK it seemed like the obvious choice. Its a decent quality and mid priced tobacco thats available in almost every newsagent and supermarket. I quite like the taste - although its not so nice to smoke whilst drinking as my girlfriends Lucky Strikes. They just dont taste as nice with alcohol.

2. Ive tried just about all of the major rolling tobaccos in the UK and two types of Norwegian ones. Regular cigs ive smoked quite a few - mostly from the UK but also some Chinese ones. Although some of the Chinese ones tasted like it was some prostitutes pubic hair wrapped in old newspaper. Absolutely disgusting. But that being said The Lanzhou Gold brand I smoked for a while when I was over there was pretty good - and cost about 50p per pack.

3. I smoke the roll ups most of the time but when im in a hurry or something I usually have a lucky strike. I dont notice much difference in the effect it has - the rollies and slightly stronger but their isnt too much difference.

4. People often describe smoking as a habit - and it is. You get into a routine of buying the same from the same shops/shops and youll know which places stock it and which places dont. Particularly true for roll up smokers since you need the rizla and filters as well as just the tobbaco.

The title "Do you smoke?" is a question being pointed at ANYONE so I decided to answer it, then voice my opinion of smoking to contribute to this discussion. Which unless I'm mistaken, is valid since this is a discussion ABOUT SMOKING.

Did I at any point say I hated smokers? NO! (Go and find any point in my post that says "I HATE SMOKERS!" You won't find anything) I said I think they are fools for damaging themselves when there is no good reason to (not saying there are any good reasons to damage yourself). It's an opinion and a pretty valid one at that. Besides the last time I checked, smoking is BAD! I'm bewildered by the fact that some of you people actually defend smoking let alone do it yourself.

1. Do you smoke? Okay, so what made you decide on the brand and particular flavor you use?
Was not a conscious choice, I just sort of developed a taste over time.
I started with Marlboro Red, switched to Prince Red, switched to hand rolled (which is pretty common in Norway btw), switched to Marlboro again and so on.
I currently smoke Marlboro Beyond Red (the one with the spearmint ball in the filter) and a local brand of rolling tobacco.

2. And how many other brands and flavors have you tried?
Well, it's hard to be precise as I have been a smoker for nearly 15years now.
But I reckon I've tired most brands available in my country by now (and some not available, as I tend to test the "local" brand when I'm out of the country).

3. Is it true that smokers always order the same kind of cigarettes?
For the most part, yes.
Most brands have their own unique flavor and humans are creatures of habit.

4. Why? Isn't it more fun to try something new once in a while?
Yes and no.
While I like to try out new brands and flavors, most of the time I don't like them too much.
Not that they are bad (although a few truly are), but they're just not that good either.

So I mostly stick to the ones I like best.

These days I don't smoke cigarettes. Instead I smoke a pipe. My tobacco flavor is 'John Hunt'. I buy it from a local old fashioned tobacco store--not one of these discount tobacco stores and they don't sell regular cigarettes. I also smoke Clove cigarillos. I like both and discovered them by trial and error (hey, bum me one of those? Thanks. *puff*)
*PIPE SMOKER HIGH FIVE* You should try some Peterson of Dublin tobacco, more often then not it tastes(and smells) great!

1. Like I said before to Copper, I smoke Peterson of Dublin pipe tobacco. The reason I chose it was because when I started out it was the most prominent tobacco in the store I went to. As for the flavour well I'm still going through all the Peterson catalogue but I tend to go for the more fruity 'baccys.
2. Haven't had the chance to smoke any other pipe 'baccys yet and any cigarettes I've had have been just one off's because I just wanted to smoke something. As for Cigars I only smoke Villagers because other cigars are expensive. xD
3. Well it's just a matter of preference, my friends smoke what they can afford and what they enjoy which I think tends to be JPS.
4. I will once I'm through with Peterson.

It's not very nice to call someone else's decision "fucking stupid" and call us all idiots. If you don't like smoking then this is not the topic for you.

1. I do and price is the answer, $1 a pack and I only smoke one or two cigarettes a day.
2. Maybe 4 over the course of the 8 years I've been smoking
3. Only somewhat, I've changed due to price
4. I might treat myself to a cigar every now and then, makes me feel classier.

I prefer this slow death by smoking over the instant death that would've happened in 2007.

I dont usually smoke tobacco. But when I do, I smoke it in a blueberry cigar like a fucking boss. I'll try different kinds if they sound interesting, but I usually stick to my favorites.
A boss doesn't require their cigar be dipped in flavorings first. And if they do, it would be something unreasonably expensive that also tastes terrible. Cognac for example would be a fairly "boss" flavoring.

All that aside, I used to smoke. All other things aside, experimentation is what makes you arrive at the brand you like. Personally, I found I preferred menthol and ended up liking Marlboro Menthol 72's (the extra short ones). People would always say that you get less but these people fail to overlook that the primary difference between a 72 and a 100 (the length in mm of the cigarette) is in filter size with the 100 having a far longer one than the 72.

In terms of brands tried, there have been a lot of them. Most variations of the common American brands for example with a smattering of the various premium models. Most of the premium types have a quality that is interesting to try but unpleasant in the long run. Clove cigarettes for example are a "good once" sort of thing in my book. In short, my experience is that you eventually find what you like and occasionally experiment after that. You stick with the same brand of cigarette for the same reason people tend to stick to the same brand of beer. Experimenting can be fun but in most contexts where people smoke familiarity is more important than novelty.

Well damn, I'm a smoker I smoke a lot. I'd say that I smoke Spirits the most and L&Ms when I feel like something lighter.

I also toke up sometimes with friends. Smoking brings people together man.
