I stopped for a little bit recently because I just couldn't be bothered.
Back into now I have a fair bit of time off work. I hope I won't outgrow it and I can easily pick up all the new consoles in the future.
I want my kids to be gamers as long as my boyfriend agrees with that. I'd like to play games with them and show them the games I grew up on, as well as all the new fancy shingle dingle that will be out by then xP

All in all, I doubt I'll ever completely stop gaming. Perhaps move down to a casual gamer instead of my marathon hardcore sprees.

No, not as long as there are still plenty of games like this:

Though if the video game abandons and kills everything I love in video games from being made again, and instead becomes a macho manly man fest, like many Westerners are apparently clamoring for, I'll abandon all new video games and never look back.

There's no point in my paying any attention to new video games if they all simply become brown and gritty first person shooters and wRPGs. And it is for sure that many people are trying to make this an eventuality.

Of course I will stop playing games. When I'm dead in the ground. Not even arthritis could ever hope to put an end to my gaming.

Probably, there's going to be a point when I'm physically too old to play them. Won't be able to look at the screen very long or react and play them as well as is necessary.

If it starts becoming unaffordable to become a gamer, then I might stop. I don't see that happening though, when I can just ask for the consoles for Christmas or something and hope to God my parents get them for me (am 18, so that one won't be happening for much longer). I don't see myself stopping playing video games any time soon, because no matter how long we stay apart, I still go back to my video games to relieve stress or boredom.

Also, getting my girlfriend into Portal and Left 4 Dead 2. Can't give up gaming just yet!

I'll probably slow down if I ever start my true career and get an actual family going. But no, I'll never stop. I can't wait until we can just plug our brains in to a virtual world.

OT: I will never stop playing games! I will probably game less in the future (the far far away future) when I have kids and stuff like that but I will never quit. Ohh god I sound like an game addict... well fudge it, I am an game addict!

For me to stop gaming would take something drastic like... death? just kiddin though technically it would stop me from gaming XP

Doubtful.

I've put games on hiatus for periods of 3 to 9 months on occasion. But it's a hobby that's always been worth coming back to.

I expect the only things to keep me from gaming all my life will be my own personal health and income. That or a directional shift in gaming that I don't get behind. Like how some people hate motion gaming and if that were the only option out there.

Even then, would you stop playing your old favourites?

I can see myself nolonger buying new games in some future, but not quiting completely.

Of course. I heard rigor mortis really cuts down your gaming abilities.

Yes . Well no no technically . But once games become Digital download only i will stop buying new games . That being said , i understand why DD is the next logical step and why people like it . But i for one love having physical copies of my games . When that is no longer possible then and only then will i quit . But not entirely ,more like i'll retreat to retro gaming . I'll buy games for previous generation , and replay all 300 sum games i currently own .
I know what you mean I dread digital downloads, nothing can beat a hard physical copy. What if your memory unit gets lost or your data gets wiped? All that money you spent on games pissed down the toilet, that and it will be much easier for developers to take the piss if everything goes digital.
What if there's a fire or a burglary and all your games get stolen/destroyed? Having an online profile and cloud saves is possible these days so there's no need for the hysteria. Physical copies get broken at times. Digital copies got an advantage there. Digital copies may be impossible to download if the provider goes bust. There are risks on both sides, but physical is far from perfect.

OT: I'll probably stop playing video games at some point. I don't play nearly as much as I used to so the process has already started.

Not very likely. Yes, I'll play them less, as I'm already doing compared to two years ago (thank fuck, because that sucked the fun out of games) but I think I'll always have a certain fascination with the medium. It just has so much potential. Who knows, I might even make my work out of it.

Absolutely.

As soon as the next gen consoles come out and establish themselves, then I'm outta here. I skipped several generations prior to this one, and honestly, what with the state the industry is getting itself into (War on pre-owned, DRM, AAA titles becoming increasingly bland and repetative) I cant see my interest being maintained much longer. In fact, its on the wane already.

Still, I've had some good times. Sneaking around the Ishimura fearing for my life, Freerunning in first person, hunting for treasures with the Male Lara Croft, Hunting for treasures with the female Lara Croft (in HD!), helping Shepard save the galaxy (or not, the vote is still out on that one), beating up crowds of convicts in a single combo with the Dark Knight, and of course, beating people to death with a giant dildo. Only... 50% of these things I can actually do in real life.

All good things... etc etc.
