Doctor Who MMO Coming This Year

I'm not sure if I got new life or died a little inside the moment I saw Doctor Who, MMO and free to play in the same sentence.

Too bad there's no site for it yet, so I won't know for sure for a while.

Seriously, "The End of Time", the episode where you find out who The Face of Beau is, pretty much the entire 4th season;

And is nerve-scramblingly awful.

Everyone will want to be the Doctor in this MMO, this game is unfortunately already broken.

Not so, does everyone play Rebels in SW:G? Does everyone play Enterprise Crew in Star Trek online?

The Doctor will appear, but more than likely as a helper.

At a rough guess, it may be set just before the Time War, where you are TimeLords going out to battle the Daleks. Although that means that Mcgann comes down and burns all the PCs....

Hmmmm.

But travelling with Peri, Leela and Amy? *sigh*

So here I am, readin' about this Dr. Who MMO. I'm thinking to myself, I'm pretty cool with Dr. Who. Not gonna play the game, but I might tell my girlfriend. When all the sudden, my roommate asks, "So who's making it?" So I look and look, and then see THREE RINGS! I then gasped like a little school girl. I LOVE Puzzle Pirates. This has now become a must play game.

Sadly you are wrong Andy, Tennant is the best doctor. That is a fact, Tom Baker may come second, with his amazing scarf and all. But Tennant usurped his practice (doctors practice, it works!)

Tennant girl through and through. Though I am quite fond of Matt Smith now, Tennant is my favourite. There's a kind of louche sexiness to him that I can't resist, As to classic 'Who, then it HAS to be Davison.

But yay for a new DW game! I'd be in on that for sure!

I doubt any of us will be Time Lords and that suits me just fine. They aren't the only time travelers in the Doctor's universe. Jack Harkness anyone? I wouldn't mind being an agent of Torchwood.

I'm just gonna call it now. This is going to suck. I just don't see how to creatively bring the Doctor Who universe to a MMO without gorking it up somehow.
Maybe they should first work on making a decent AAA title for the pc and consoles FIRST. Something single player and story driven.

I would love for the studio that produced Heavy Rain to have a go at DW. I think that would be epic.

OT: I wonder - rather than playing as a Time Lord, there are a few other beings which canonically time travel - the Daleks for one and time agents for two.

My money's on players being Time Agents.

Doctor Who, for those who don't know, is a long-running BBC science fiction series that's been around since 1963 and has featured numerous actors in the lead role, the best of whom without question was Tom Baker.

WRONG!

David Tennant took the series to dizzying new heights with his portrayal of The Doctor. Seriously, "The End of Time", the episode where you find out who The Face of Beau is, pretty much the entire 4th season; David Tennant IS The Doctor!

Yeah, pretty much this. I've always felt the Doctor Who writing was a little bit umm.... awkward, in places. David Tennant is the kind of actor who just steps over awkwardness and BECOMES The Doctor. He's the only one I can watch with any consistency.

A perfectly dreadful realization of this game would be in the midst of the Great Time War (which was time-locked by the Doctor). You would select one of two factions -- Time Lords or Daleks.

Yes, indeed, that would suck.

Another random thought I had was that, in many games these days, you get to customize your avatar via a zillion sliders. If you play a Time Lord, when you regenerate, you have to visit this character config screen again, and you don't get to leave until your avatar is sufficiently different from the previous one(s).

Tom Baker gets a lot of love because A) he played the role the longest (seven years); B) he was darned good at it; C) his were the first serials to arrive in the United States, thus making him the first Doctor many people knew.

Eventually we in the States got all the serials that had ever been made (and that had survived). Truth be told, I like all of them in different ways. I'm rather fond of Jon Pertwee. Peter Davison kind of grows on you. And David Tennant (Peter Davison's soon-to-be son-in-law) did nothing less than a spectacular job. So I don't think it's fair to slag on any of the actors who played the Doctor.

Now, if anyone wants to pile on John Nathan-Turner, I'm totally there...

Am I the only one who thought Tennant was so different from all of the other Doctors that he jst didn't feel like the Doctor at all?

Besides. Of course he gets the vote for best (although I'm pretty sure the DWM magazine did a poll last year and Baker topped him. Strange that. And also the fact that a 5th Doctor ep (and previously a fourth doctor ep) both got BEST STORY EVER voted by fans.) but if you take away the fangirls and the kiddies who never watched the Classic stuff he's probably below Baker, Pertwee and Troughton at least.

Matt Smith actually feels like the Doctor again.

But MMO. I'm not feeling it. Unless you get to play as the Daleks/Cybermen/Zarbi/Zygons/Judoon/Wyrrn. Then it would be kewwwwl.
