... What the hell was that? Whatever it was it was terrible. Personally I dislike anime but I'm a massive Doctor Who fan, as indicated by my username and if I saw this actually funded by the BBC I would climb the tallest building I could find and leap to my death.

I liked it. It's a FAN MADE project people: of course it isn't going to be top-notch, BONES quality. It still had some interesting character designs, and the animation was pretty good at parts.

Doctor Who has crazy good potential to be an anime, if done right.

While I'm a big fan of Doctor Who and a general fan of Anime, the two should never be combined. Taking something quintessentially British and trying to make it Japanese feels like Blasphemy, and if the art style from those videos is anything to go by it will just feel wrong.

Also, who was that mostly naked woman standing next to Jon Pertwee? And why was she shouting in Japanese (I'm assuming, not knowing the language)? Did he run out of sound clips from the series to use? Why not use Sarah Jane Smith or Lis Shaw, you know, one of the third Doctors actual companions?

Meh,I'm not an anime fan.

Though Akira was awesome.

In fact, just write Akira over any bloody DVD and I will probably watch it and enjoy it.

For a fan project I am impressed. I'm baffled by all the hate.

But then I am an art nerd, and I know how much dedication and love of a subject that kind of thing requires. Guys I know Doctor Who is Britains' 'thing' but you have no idea the amount of international intrest it garners also. I've met people all over the world who've asked me If I watch it (I'm British so It is generally assumed).

Someone's gonna pervert the formula somewhere. It's happened to Batman (Arguably America's 'thing') All in all, if they could make the characters look a little less like they're in a parody robot mecha show and take it seriously... More interest, bad or good in somthing we made out of creativity is a step forward. Our industry is kinda one track as it is.
Must be THIS much like the Monty Python guys to progress.

wow hate. For a fan project i think this is welll done. As for why a Doctor Who anime would be a good idea, I think it would work to bring the series to life a little bit. Even the effects in the current version are somewhat hokey. Sure Doctor Who is not about effects but I enjoyed watching the these Cybermen that actually have a range of motion, rather than the basically cardboard cutouts of the old days. A Doctor Who anything could be great if done faithfully, that's my view, because I love the character so much.
For something unofficial this is quite an impressive piece of work I have to agree. And I would be interested in seeing some of the other monsters as well and how they turn out (daleks and the like).

I feel as though some of the anime traits it could have draw back from a little bit -- stuff like the Ghost in the Shell-esque buildings it could replace and women with a lack of clothes? Bearing in mind the difference between Japanese and English opinions on the subject of nudity, I think for an English show they should've stuck to English traits and beliefs more. Then again, the artist's British so he shouldn't need to have this explained to him.

As for the buildings, my own dislike for them comes from the newer Doctor Who series. Being someone who grew up with Christopher Ecclestone, I'm more used to the younger episodes, which are generally set in the past or present rather than the future and don't consist of such a style of background of neon lights as a result, and even when they are set in the future not too much of the future world is usually seen to spot such traits as are applied to futuristic anime. So, seeing these ones is quite a different experience. But then again, this guy is basing the doctor on his third transformation when they were more keen for that stuff so I can see some reasoning behind it.

Other than that, I actually did like the way The Doctor was drawn in that video and I did like the anime traits when it came to the weapons, so it did have some good points.

May need to keep an eye out for this and see what the end result is.

EDIT: As for the hate, bear in mind that a lot of people here don't like anime, whilst a lot of people do like Doctor Who, so putting the two together would be a bit of an annoyance for them, I think.

As amateur animation work goes, this is pretty solid. I don't think a marriage between anime and Doctor Who would be a successful one, for a variety of reasons.

The largest one being, not even a TARDIS could withstand the heat of a million billion angry flames from angry Doctor Who fanboys and angry otaku.

Wow, look at all this hate. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, and would like to see it follow through.

And yet, the White Chamber fan in me can't help but think that this resembles an unfinished project [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrABj0-j8n8] that Studio Trophis scrapped years ago. The art style is awfully similar, and Desert Mallow looks awfully similar to the companion in the video.

Just my two cents.

Um...., NO. They say Destroy. Delete was a stupid attempt to make them more Darlec like the Cybermen in the new docwho. The new Dr. Who renewed the Cybermen. Go back and watch the original show.

That left me with a foul taste in my mouth really. But I must say, I never liked the Cybermen (too much like the Daleks), but this does make them look more awesome. Quite impressive animation though, for a fan-made project, but I'll stick to the live action series thank you very much.

Also, on a not-so unrelated matter, does anyone else think that the new Doctor is just...bleeh?

After watching both seasons of Code Geass, I can say this:

UGH! Looks horrible. Like some hyper-active Western anime made in 100% on computers.

Depends on which Cybermen they are. The ones from the parallel Earth did have a habit of intoning "DELETE!" when killing people, but the ones from Mondas (in the original series) never did, as far as I can remember.

The animation and detail are good, but I just don't think Doctor Who would work as an anime. I can't really justify that second part - it just doesn't feel right.

It's a bit futuristic for contemporary Earth, isn't it?

I think it looked awesome is would be better than anything the BBC could pump out, namely series after Eccleston as the doctor.

Gah, you guys give much hate. There are flaws, yes, but a professionally written and animated Doctor Who anime would be just excellent.

And given that this guy is working alone on this, it's pretty goddamn impressive.
No. It'd be just as godawful as roughly 90% of the other anime out there. Anime is one of those genres where they will always play into the cliches because that's what their target audience wants, and if you genuinely want to see an anime-cliche-ridden Doctor Who, I worry for you.
