If put something that recorded the matches so that people could send in clips of the person hacking....Oh wait they do have a recorder that's on by default. They don't have some place to submit the clips easily. Or even something like punkbuster (as much as I hate it) or VAC. Which I don't think would be too hard seeing as you MUST have steam to play it.

Have you actually looked at any of the recordings in-game? You can't first person spec another player, which makes all but speed hacking unable to be 100% proved.

VAC only really works with a dedicated server setup - yes, VAC will ban you in an indeterminate amount of time if it catches you cheating, but up until that point, you're able to continue on your merry way. Dedicated servers with good server admins get rid of this problem.

Punkbuster is terrible, nuff said.

Having said all of that, I don't think i've encountered a single cheater yet in MW3 (haven't played since Skyrim launched though). People are too quick to call hacks when they're just terrible players.

The Elite thing never really interested me anyway. There's enough stats in game for me to pour over, and I generally get bored of CoD around the time the first DLC hits, so I don't really feel that i'm missing much.

Anyway, back OT -

I personally feel pretty good as a majority PC gamer. There have been some brilliant titles this year that had their best versions on the PC, it's been a great year for gaming, and I personally haven't had any problems at all with any consoleportitis. I'm pretty sure i've got just about all the big releases on PC this year so far (except SR3).

Everybody knows that SR2 was a horrible failure on PC, mainly because support was dropped about two nano-seconds after release, which i'd probably put down to a decision from the publisher, not the devs.

MW3 was probably one of the most stable big PC releases of the year. Couldn't ask for anymore really.

I haven't noticed... but I'm mostly into RTSes and RPGs. We do fine on those fronts. Most games I'm really into are PC exclusive anyway.

Wow this many posts and not a single mention of Rage? Well then if no one else has I'll mention it. Rage was a horrible console port. There that's done. Well I have plenty of games to play on my PC like everything on GOG, a bunch of RTS games that are too many to name all of them (I have a lot of RTS games) and Guild Wars. People can say what they want I don't care I'll just ignore them and play what I want. Though I am confused why no one makes an RTS for the consoles and just adds mouse and keyboard support. It seems so simple.

There are still enough PC exclusive games and genres (strategy games, racing simulations, realistic fps, competitive fps.... good fps in general actually) to make PC gaming worth it, but it's really sad to see all those lazy console ports on PC.
Even big budget games like Skyrim or the COD:MW series get really cheap ports. (I'm still waiting for a patch to fix the problems with mouse lag and inconsistent mouse sensitivity in Skyrim.)

It's funny how publishers, who blame piracy for bad sales on PC, are often those who release crappy games on PC.
If you want to sell more PC games, you will have to make good PC games first. PC gamers are smart enough not to buy into marketing hype.

Aye, strategy games have to be played on a PC.

I don't really notice this. There are only few console games and franchises that I would like to see on PC - Uncharted, Halo, Gears Of Wars, Red Dead Redemption.

I think that console gamers are the only ones who think that PC gamers have worse lives. We really have it good here - and we have consoles to thank for thank. I've bought my computer many years ago, and PC graphics are usually stuck one notch above consoles (with a couple exceptions like Crysis), so I don't need to buy anything. In terms of games, we do miss out on few good franchises, but we miss out mostly on the ton of God Of War ripoffs and other crappy games. However, most people forget that PCs have a lot of exclusives themselves, including many FPS, RPG and RTS games, not to mention absolutely awesome indie games like Minecraft.

So yeah, I prefer the way things are in PCs than consoles.

Yeah not to mention being shat on with DRM because you can't trust those evil hackers with the audacity to play games on PCs to pay for stuff that's worth paying for.

No demo's, crap ports, crap menus, all around cheap garbage.

The hardest part of Mirror's Edge was the tutorial, because it spoke entirely in Xbox360 buttons (and the manual spoke entirely in keyboard commands), so I had to go back to the controls setup screen every time it gave me a key combination, and translate it back to keyboard commands. Which, by the way, were TGHF, instead of WSAD, because it used character input rather than keymapping, and didn't recognise anything with diacritics (since I'm using Svorak, the character input from WSAD is ÄOEA).

I've played other games where there was no way to change which gamepad buttons are used for what, and in any game I've played with a gamepad, I've had to use my gamepad's key customisation to be able to navigate the menus without switching back to the keyboard. On games menus that are designed to be navigated by gamepad (on a console), that's cheap.

Gameplay is getting silly. Play Arkham Asylum or Assassin's Creed with a keyboard and mouse, and the auto-aim and fixed camera angles make you want to vomit, if you always play games with a keyboard and mouse (I only use my gamepad for racing and 2D games). Not to mention Assassin's Creed having no Quit option in any of its menus, so after quitting three times to go through three equally useless interfaces, you still need to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get to your desktop. I didn't mind that in Mortal Kombat for DOS, because I was so happy that such a faithful port had been made at all, but nowadays it's just rude.

By the way, Rage was written for consoles.

Oh I know but I figured that someone would mention it so I figured it would be for me. Personally my outrage isn't them making it for consoles since I already knew this. They didn't really make it a secret and as long as it ran well I honestly couldn't care what it was made for. Unfortunately they couldn't even get the running well part right. The main reason I'm still pissed is that they basically gave everyone the middle finger now and haven't said a single word about the next patch or anything else about it. We get a "the next patch will be soon" every now and then but no date or amount of it is done just silence.

Skyrim isn't better on PC. Most of the people I know who have Skyrim on PC would rather it on consoles because it randomly crashes back to desktop when ever it feels like it.

OT: The OP raises some good points about why certain devs aren't releasing games on PC. The piracy one is a major thing. You can ***** and moan about how DRM isn't a good thing, but developers are trying to protect themselves against people stealing their property. That's what it is, stealing. It's the same with DVDs (region locking) and other crap.

The bad porting issue is just pure laziness though.

Developers are too lazy to code for PC's , because it's a lot harder to cater for the clearly superior gaming platform. Too many hardware configurations.

When you try to troll the thread, try to do it more subtle. You just look like a dick otherwise

Saints Row 2 was horrible ported to PC, but that games is a few years old now. Take a look At Saints Row The Third and it's vastly improved. The sniping is just the way PC gamers love it and it runs a lot smoother than Saints Row 2. Also the PS3 version of Saints Row 2 didn't get DLC either so that's a bad example.
Now PC gets horrible ports, that's true and it's really sad. However there are a lot of games that are exclusive or simply look better on PC, we get digital distribution so we wont need human contact and usually we get the best online experience.
We are getting the short end of the stick a lot, there's no denying it. However PC gaming is still thriving.

Even fable 3 got a PC version with VAST improvements ( namely a difficulty setting).
The big games on PC don't come as frequently as console games.
Think about it in the terms fine dining(pc gamers) and MCdonalds(console gamers) even people who fine dine like to eat Mcdonalds sometimes but ALOT of people who have eaten Mcdonalds will NEVER fine dine.

So I take it that your part of the glorious PC master race and us unclean console gamers just aren't good enough for that stuff? You could have phrased that better without coming off as an asshole.

Skyrim for example wasn't even made to take advantage of quad core :| and the 'Ultra' settings are really quite low. I'm personally waiting for an ini file that will take advantage of my system.

To be honest PC's being hackable shouldn't be an excuse really :/ as xbox 360 is just as hackable albeit with abit more difficulty but once done you can download and burn off games just like downloading any PC game.

I think not 100% that the ps3 is the only console that has remained un hacked in the sense you cant download and burn off games, this may also be due to the fact most people do not have blue ray dvd burners but dual layer burners are cheaper and alot more common. Again not 100% sure.

Either way it doesn't really affect me personally at a point now where, im shamed to admit i do own all current gen consoles :/

There's a veryhigh.ini file (might not be the exact name) with a bunch of stuff that's not selectable in the game menus. Don't know if you've tried that already, might want to look into it though.

OT: Eh, not really.

Although I have a particular beef at the moment: mouse smoothing/acceleration and FOV. Stop fucking forcing the former and not providing an option to turn it off (it should be off by default anyway, I've never known anyone to actively want the fucking thing), and stop leaving the latter at widths that are only suitable when you're sitting away from a big screen.

The PC's coming back to the forefront, problem is that some devs are too stupid/lazy to just include all the options in the menus and realise that PC gamers aren't console gamers. But there are plenty that focus on it.

Blizzard has only ever created games for the PC, with the surprising exception that I read about with SC1 being ported to the N64 by some other company... WTF?

DICE just released Battlefield 3, a PC flagship game. Whilst some of our titles have gone or are going to the consoles - The Elder Scrolls, CoD, Crysis, ect. - we do still have our exclusives. Luckily for me, the exclusives are some of the main games I play. Yay!

As someone who games exclusively on PC, I find it to be more alive and thriving than ever. We get almost all the (good) games that consoles get, plus our own exclusives (but who gives a shit if something is exclusive or not anyway?). Some ports aren't very good or optimized, but with a 360 controller and a decent enough setup it almost completely ceases to be an issue, apart from the rare cases when a game is so unoptimized it becomes unplayable such as Saints Row 2, or RAGE (before it was patched), but i've come across very few games that were actually better on consoles in all ways.

While if feel that developers are still interested in PC gaming, I feel that the big problem is the retailers. I live in the UK and apart from video game shops, places like HMV and the supermarkets (which is a boom area at the moment) just don't stock PC games. While I don't know about the USA but I'm certain this will hurt the PC gaming scene eventually as the number of new gamers decline.
