I think responses like this are fine sometimes but we shouldn't try and use this kind of thing if we actually want to change anyone's mind.

The reason people believe that violent video games cause real violence is that there is an intuitive link between the two (at least for people who haven't actually played a violent video game)

Playing games is seen as a "niche" activity that take up a significant portion of their time. The actual correlations that people cite are just rationalisations and perceived support for a link that people consider "obvious".

Of course we don't need to prove anything, it's up to them to show a link not us to show no link.

Sorry for sapping the fun out of a funny article, just thought this was worth saying.

Bah, the Levis corporation is just a small piece in a sinister conspiracy. This anti-pants movement is a product of Levis REAL owners, a conglomerate of wealthy skirt manufacturers. They seek to discredit pants so that people will be forced into buying skirts, a market they have completely cornered and far higher profit margins in! Don't you see?!

Next time you see someone wearing a miniskirt, don't stand around thinking about her beautifully springy buns! Tell her that she is part of the problem, and only together can we preserve pants for our children to know!

Well, if you use a fake beard, you could probably stash a small gun in your Speedo.

I will not surrender my pants to any so-called 'government' or 'organization'. I acquired them legally and I am a law abiding pants owner. Besides, if we, the law abiding pants owners, lower our pant length what is to stop the criminals from staying the same length, or even extending them. I need to protect myself and my family, so the 'government' can keep its greedy, regulating hands off my Levi's!!!

Are we sure it's the pants, though? Maybe it's the shirt, or the underwear, or maybe the socks.

Let's all just be naked from now on to be sure.

As compelling as this evidence is, I know the TRUE secret of mass murders: dihydrogen monoxide. Yes, every murderer throughout time has been addicted to dihydrogen monoxide. Armies make troops carry containers of dihydrogen monoxide. If we were to abolish this dangerous chemical, all murder, nay, ALL CRIME would be stopped within a week!
Haha, I love that video where they're getting people to sign a petition to ban dihyrdogen monoxide while at the same time offering them bottles of water to drink which they happily accept. Fucking idiots.

I used to have violent thoughts all the time until I started playing video games in the nude. Now I'm a pacifist.

That visual you have of me playing games naked? Well, you're welcome.

Consider this the obligatory "I've got a deadly weapon...IN MY PANTS!"-post.

However, I'm not currently wearing them. Make of this information what you will.

What this article tells me is that the Scottish army is the most peaceful one in the world. Say no to pants - say yes to kilts!

I'm actually surprised this childish rubbish was published here. But then i remember that this is a gaming site and that this is probably pretty representative of the community as a whole.

I suppose you're rather pleased with yourself, but this kind of argument/statement brings nothing new to the table, it is neither original nor very constructive. This childish behaviour is like that guy in school who takes his clothes off and streaks in the middle of a serious debate, to the encouraging applause of the equally simpleminded in the audience. Finally something they can understand. Crowdpleasing at it's worst i would say.

You do realize that real people have been killed? People with parents, girlfriends and perhaps children?

Now, you are FULLY entitled to not believe there is a connection between video games and violence, you may very well be right. But the least you can do is respect the debate, because whether you are correct or not, this is a very serious and important debate.

If you're not willing to take the debate seriously, please give the keyboard to someone who is.

The link between pants and violence has been understood for centuries. Every major military in the world has made pants a part of their uniform, even for women. There is not a single army that wears short-shorts, boxers, ball gowns, or miniskirts into battle. It's pants. It's always pants. Horrible, blood-soaked murder pants.
Really? I call shenanigans on that!

Your baseless accusations against the proud article of clothing known as pants is founded on flawed research and imaginary "facts". You are neither a scholar nor a gentleman. I bid you good day!

Seriously, though, cool article. :)

But wait a minute...

isn't "pants" a little broad?

Surely they were all wearing a particular kind of pants?

Like say... jeans or slacks?

I doubt many of our psychotic mass murderers went to their shootings wearing sweat-pants, pajama-pants, or track-pants... or any of the sillier, breezier varieties of pants!

So those are safe, right?

The problem with the debate is that instead of focusing on an actual cause of the problem, they try to find something else to blame. It is a waste of time and effort to even acknowledge this debate. Yes, video games are linked to increased AGGRESSION, not violence, or violent behavior. Just like sports, or any other number of competitive activities are linked to increased aggression.

Yes, everyone here realizes that people have been killed, what makes us sad is that instead of looking at the root causes of these events, they try to find a scapegoat that they can point and say "Hey, look at this, its clearly *insert scapegoat here*'s fault!"

The most recent Study I have seen published has in fact shown that video games may have a calming effect on people with certain disorders, such as depression or ADD. This is why this is taken so lightly in the video gaming community

Like I said earlier, You are entitled to whatever opinion you want, I am not arguing whether the gaming=violence-debate is right or wrong. What I AM saying is that no matter if it is, you should still respect the fact that there is a debate and treat it seriously. If you mock someone and treat them disrespectfully just because you think they are wrong, don't expect them to respect you back.

"But I don't need their respect!" No? Isn't that what the gaming community wants? To be taken seriously by the rest of society? I got that impression, at least when it comes to the more grown up part of the community. That's what I mean when I say that if you can't or won't make a serious contribution to the debate, then please go away, your streaking is ruining it for the rest of us.

And you know what? Pot is calming for everybody, that does not autmatically make it healthy. ;)
