100% fake. Like the dude would solve the 1st clue and then rush to youtube to post it so everyone else is one step closer to the money. That makes NO sense. Also, those segments were SO scripted.

No, it really doesn't. Especially as while you may be easily impressed, none of what was demonstrated was "amazing" to the point of actually limiting anything. And hosting by proxy, especially for a minor low traffic site, is not difficult in the least. Good luck when your tracking dead ends at a free wi-fi hotspot the guy only ever visited for that specific purpose. All you'd really have is "guy with 9 grand", "reasonably smart, maybe", and a few guidelines on his location at various times, such as having to been in wales at the time of the murder, having to have at some point been at that yellow house, etc... Not for certain that he'd even have to be welsh.

All in all, unless the guy was stupid or not anticipating the need to be hidden, there's not much of anything to go on. Hell, even if you want to assume that he had "amazing topographical and electronic security knowledge", unless he's a professor or something in those specific subjects at a near by university, that doesn't narrow down shit either, it would only help if you already at a suspect to compare those traits to.
To be as clear as possible, I was inferring that if this murder had actually happened, the forensic and detective techniques and technology of the modern day would be more than enough to catch the culprit(s). It would not be surprising if someone went to these elaborate lengths to kill a random stranger for shits and gigs, but it would be surprising if they were to do it that poorly then get away that cleanly. (The "police report" says signs of a struggle and two sets of footprints. You don't get away with murder after leaving fucking footprints) Assassins aren't that clean. Jason Bourne's not that clean. 47's not that clean

You're being plenty clear, you're also plenty wrong. Sure, modern forensics are great but you're acting like any evidence automatically equals crime solved, which is ridiculous. To keep the discussion specific, "You don't get away with murder after leaving fucking footprints" is possibly the stupidest thing I've read all day (or at least in the last hour. Footprints give you what? Ideally speaking, given proper experts and attention to the case, you'd have the weight and height of the person perhaps, maybe some other physical traits along those lines, as well as the shoe tread, likely leading to the specific shoes worn.

Know what all of those things need? A suspect to compare them to. You can narrow shit down as much as you want, and if the guy you arrest happens to match all of those things then you've probably got him, but nothing like that is going to give you something to start with unless you get very lucky and one of the traits you identify is exceedingly rare.

Hell, you could have every single single detail about the person short of his photo, and you're still fucked without something to cause you to look into that specific person in the first place.

Found this today while reading the daily what. Im sure a few of you might have as well but this really struck me.

Click the spoiler after you watch this.

The internet is a more dangerous place than we give it credit for, and this story, which i cant decide on its validity, is a good if creepy example of that. What a tempting prize, my first thoughts were "i totally wanna do that" when i saw the initial offer. Were i unlucky enough to find this first i might have been the one to end up with a knife in me in some welsh field. Creepy as. This probably belongs on the scary thread

Also proof that monsters and huge budgets are not needed for true creepyness. Just good story telling. And a creepy premise.
DAMN DUDE!!! Epic. THat's all I can say. Just pure epic!
Thanks for that. I always love a good creepy story before bed. It helps the creatures in my corner stay with me at night as they gaze at me from afar in the pitch black of night.
It's quite comforting :D

If I wasn't super-tired and about to go to bed, I would read this as I looooove stories like this. But not enough to read them *right* before I turn all the lights off.

That is creepy indeed, but since I live in America and have a concealed firearms license...well yeah. It wouldn't be so easy getting the drop on me in this case.

No shivers, just well put together and well told.

I'm calling fake though... but even if it is, it's a damn good fake.

I really wish Fortress could continue that story with one last video. No problems, though.

Just turn around and ask him yourself.
I was already freaked out and you did that. Ha, my heart skipped a beat that's for sure.

The Pardoner's Tale reminds me of this other story.

OT: Not really as creepy as everyone makes it out to be, but yeah..a spooky story alright.

It seemed somewhat realistic until Fortress took 2 weeks to realize Wale's meant Wales. Hell, I realized that after a couple of seconds.

Overall, still pretty creepy.

I didn't find it creepy. I just thought it was a pretty cool short video. But it did take a turn for the weird at the end.

I haven't got shivers, it just felt a little more like a Professor Layton puzzle at some point.

I'm a little surprised the guy didn't look at the colored letters. I'd have picked up on the "Wales" thing immediately, as well as the fact that the letters are all different colors, since it's the first thing I end up doing to strange phrases and whatnot anyway.

I'm not trying to dismay you, but what kept me on the edge was the worry the video would have turned into a screamer (Had one too many pulled on me, so I hardly ever trust videos with "horror", thriller", "scary" or anything in that general lexicon).

Still, it did make me feel like I was a detective for a few minutes, and decectives are what I've always wanted to be when I grew up, so no complaints here.

I'm being unclear again. I meant to say that if you murder someone, leaving evidence like footprints and/or a sign of a struggle, you aren't an amazing killer. Almost definitely not a professional (Occam's Razor). Therefore, there's a good chance that the murderer would be acting out of the ordinary after the murder, and there's a good chance someone would've noticed (Occam's Razor). Also, given the circumstances, the murderer is probably a local. He'd either have to be watching the entire web, waiting for anyone to publish a blog/vlog etc... and find Fortess's videos, or (most likely) be watching the field (Occam's Razor). And if he's watching the field, he is able to do so on a frequent basis. Therefore, a local, who could be identified by shoe size/tread, would more than likely have exhibited some strange behavior (acting strangely when the murder is discussed), triggering a friend/relative/neighbor to come forward (because the report states that "Anyone with any information should contact the police") I realize that his name is ALone, but the type of person who expresses feelings like he seems to is generally not that alone on a daily basis, they just have unmatched emotional needs. (I've read several books on the mentally ill and criminal psychology, so yes I do think I know what I'm talking about.)

I kept expecting some kind of scream moment. I want be sleeping tonight.
Still it is brilliantly creepy. I enjoyed it.
Never let greed get the best of you. If you do it could end badly.
