If they can get rid of the horrible Bethesda animation with this it sounds like it'd be put to great use with Elder Scrolls or Fallout. Id are pretty much know for their tech after all.
Agreed. I hope for the day Bethesda fix up their facial expressions two.

Here is an example:
Voice: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Face: :| :O :| :O :|

The thought of the next TES game looking like RAGE makes me very, very, very happy.
Absolutely, positively yes. Maybe the characters won't stand absolutely still during conversation anymore! :-D
The standing still bit is far less annoying than the staring, limited animations, and overall uncanny valley feeling. Some of the NPCs were actually really creepy because of this...

So will stuff in Doom 4 fall through tables or fall into the void when we pick stuff up?

I like this. As good as Epic is with their engines, trying to seed it to everybody dilutes its quality and prevents any innovation that could be done from elsewhere. Sounds like there may be some cool things coming from id and Bethesda in the future.

Doom 4? Open world? this cannot end well.
Doom 2 (which Doom 4 will be based on) was always intended to give the illusion of walking around in a huge American city. I don't see how actually making it a believable city would be a bad thing.
Ah, so Crysis 2 may have some real competition going for it. Me Likey! I loved playing Doom 2. It is a good time to see that theme upgraded for the 21st Century.

Unless doom guy has voice acting by brian blessed and all his lines taken from the doom comic.

RIP AND TEAR!

But yeah, I'm going to go my usual dick route and say that the next TES game will still be worse than Morrowind.
Now don't instantly assume Doom 4 will be a GTA:Hell. It could improve the rooms with more space or something. Just gotta hope for Doom 4

Actually, an open world doom sounds kinda neat. Maybe a few sandbox sections where you can either run around and slaughter demons or go on to the next mission. If it's based on doom 2, then I can't wait. Instead of a text screen telling us that a giant demon is killed and its thrashing limbs destroy hell, we get to watch it happen epicly.
Awesome Avatar mate!

I can totally understand this, id's engines have always been very technical, great engines, but not suitable for many developer's as where Epic engines have been more open for multiple developers.

Because it's set on Mars?

Where do you fit a huge American city?
Doom II: Hell on Earth [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_II:_Hell_on_Earth]

The marine stepped through a portal that took him back to Earth after he defeated the Spiderdemon in Hell (Doom, Episode 3: Inferno). That was followed by a short and peaceful scene in a green field, before the marine turned around and saw black smoke rising from a nearby city (also, impaled rabbit heads).

The instruction manual for Doom II detailed how he quit his job and turned in his weapons before the demons hit Earth, though, so the scene in the original Doom doesn't appear to be in continuity, but that still doesn't change the fact that it was on Earth.

Finally...

John Carmack: "Doom 4 will be more akin to Doom 2 than to its direct predecessor."

Bethesda's long been known for hideously poor optimization when using the Gamebryo engine. This looks like a job for CARMACK MAN!

(what power would Mega Man get for defeating Carmack Man, I wonder...)

Pinky appreciates your appreciation.
Yeah, considering my escapist avatar is a pinky demon gif, my photo is a cyberdemon gif, my Xbox Live gamer Picture is the Doomguy and my steam picture is Doomguy, you can tell that I love Doom and any news relating to the 4th installment is awesome.

You trying to say Morrowind was bad? 'Cuz my friend here don't appreciate those words...

OT:I would like a doom sandbox. But would LOVE for TES:V to have tech from Rage.
Don't be a fool, of course not. I'm trying to say that I want to personally burn every copy of Oblivion, since it was so bad compared to Morrowind.

Well that seems a little selfish, and unresonable. Talking about denying the market...well, if they want to be like that...fine...just shows how much of a set of jerks they are with sharing tech
It's competition. If you were in the restaurant business and you made an epic pie recipe, would you keep it for just your restaurants or give it out to anyone who wants it? Especially if you worked really, really hard on it...
Here's a cookie for epic arguing skills
OT: Elder Scrolls would look amazing with ID tech 5 engine but I hope they don't use it for Fallout. It would just feel weird since Rage have pretty much the same artstyle and grim world as Fallout.

The programming bomb. All enemies on the screen join Mega Man's side, including Robot Masters.
