I was wondering how many of you guys play dota ? Also how much time did it take you to learn to play ? I have this friend who wants to take it up and thinks he can learn it inside a month. Opinions ?

I don`t really know how to feel about this.... It`s partial win, partial fail.Spleeni said:Oh yes, I listen to DotA all the time.

A lot of people recommend learning Queen of Pain (Akasha) first, as she's better for teaching mana control and escape. I learned with Omniknight.-Play one hero to death until you master him (you'll thank yourself down the line, preferably start with an STR hero like Sven and/or Leoric).
In combination with the art of only last hitting. You don't get any gold for auto attacking an enemy creep. I've seen people keep a lane perfectly static in creep location by simply denying and last hitting creeps, no other attacks.-Master the art of Denying (killing your own creeps to deny the enemy of gold and exp). It's one of the most important skills you can have.

I play DotA pretty regularly, it's something I boot up when I've got an hour to waste(Sidenote: Don't learn on easy mode. It's shit. I will never understand the obsession with it.) If you don't have any friends you could learn with, there's a selection of AI maps also available on www.getdota.com, I'd recommend you definetly hit up one of these to grasp the basics of the game. I'm sure there's a 'newbie' guide or two knocking around the dota forums somewhere. It'll be far more in depth than anything we can tell you here.
