I don`t get it. Why is double posting a sin against God ?
to grasp gods logic you would have to BE god (which some theories say you are i suppose) but its for the same reason murder is, it is one of the most horrific acts a mortal can perform. but i see no problem with

One of the problems is the Yahtzee lag, you often need to repost multiple times just to get through.

The other is on a fast moving topic where the former part of your post is likely to be quoted or responded to; so it makes more sense to have it in a double post.

The third is where you're talking to multiple view points and it's often easier to use separate posts to deal with each one or it looks like you're grouping all their viewpoints/opinions together.

If I end up double-posting, it's because of laggy internet, and the lack of a delete button for superfluous posts.
That's open to abuse though Rak.

Let's say I call you a c***, you report it and then I delete it. How can you prove I did it?

I accidentally double posted once, the post button wigged out and made two seperate threads.

The only times I've double posted is because I accidentally quote a post instead of edit, then edit the post without noticing the quote tags and post.

that's why QFT was invented, since they can't edit your post the original content of their post stays visible for everyone to see.

On other websites I've seen people double post just to bump their topic, sometimes double posting does happen when my connection fail I get back on and the browser tells me I have to resend my data which ends up as a double post.

To be honest, i think that the occasional double-post is nothing to worry about. Although when i first joined, i did not bother to read the forum rules and was quadruple posting on a regular basis............ but anyway - no matter, no matter.... *laughs nervously*

It really depends if it is worth it to double post. Sometimes it's appropriate to do it, other times not.

It happens, that why we have great mods here that do their job and delete what they need to. I've never seen someone do it on purpose, myself, but I also don't frequent forums enough for it to be a big deal to me. I can see that if you did, it would probably get under your skin. To me, it's kind of one of those "grain of salt" deals.

I double posted a couple of times and I apologise for doing so.
Usually it's because I completely forgot the edit button when I read someone else's comment and the quote button is coveniently placed in the bottom right. But there were also cases in which I posted something, then went through the rest of the thread's posts, found something I want to quote and comment and then continue doing so. Now this is usually some 5-10 minutes after I last posted in that specific thread and I assume someone else has already said something. Stupid, yes, but it happens.

I do apologise.

If I want to respond to something that someone posted while I was typing a response to a different post, I'll wait until someone else posts something before I post.

Simple; just make it possible for the mods to see posts deleted by the author. Or even just have a "this post has been deleted" instead of all evidence of it ever having been removed from the face of the earth.

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that double posts are alright as long as they're seperate lines of thought, not an addition to an existing one. It's much less confusing to have you quote and reply to each person in turn rather than having a massive post containing three or more seperate trains of thought. Besides, how is posting two seperate posts sequentially worse than posting two seperate posts that happen to have someone else's post in the middle? I never quite understood that.

My double posts are typically just that, a duplicate of the post before it, as I've hit the post button twice by accident. The second of the posts is usually edited to say something like "Do'h! sorry i hit the post button twice...i'm a loser." or something...

Yeah, to be perfectly honest, and I mean no offense here, you were one of the people that contributed to me starting this thread. You've fixed yourself, like most people do, it's just that some folks never get it. When someone who has over 300 posts and has been here a while is stil making mulit-posts on a regular bsis, that's what really gets me.

Double posting is retarded solely because we can edit our own posts. Why double post and take up precious scrolling time when you can edit your post?

The weirdest thing I've seen lately is double (and once or twice quintuple or sextuple threading). Now *that* is annoying.

Well I just want to point out, that double post at the top of the page was because of the attack we got. Not on purpose. It was accidental.
