I think it's actually the fault of the camera. I've noticed even with my 100% Morrigan clone that her face looks a bit weird when I look at her from a head-on angle.

It seems to be more of a perspective issue than an actual problem with the faces.

I've read just the first post, and I must ask: 'if' you're on PC? You can take screenshots on the Xbox version too? O_O

Don't know about that. I'd guess it's more about how the editor builds the face using certain parameters for how to put the polygons together not really according to how human anatomy actually works, but what is simpler to program. That can obviously lead to uncanny moments.

A problem that is much more visible in Bethesda's games than Bioware's. I mean, try to make a decent nose in Fallout 3. As if it weren't already the most difficult thing to get right.

Haha yeah, it takes far too long to make good faces in Oblivion or Fallout 3.

Dragon Age's character creation is a real treat. I find it to be very difficult to NOT make a decent looking character. I've liked how all of my guys and gals have looked so far.

Darrian - City Elf - Rogue/Ranger/Duelist (Marksman)
King: "So how is life in alianage?"
P.C: "I've killed a noble for rapeing my friend."
King: "You what?! ... For what?!"
Thats awesome, before my game got fragged, I had a Elf that I wanted to make a Ranger/Duelist(She was Dalish to better fit the Ranger class) But I tried to make her a Ranger and the game wouldnt do it!

I bought the book early right before lvl 8, took alot of grinding to get the 15gold for it that early, and it wouldnt unlock the class. Check this I unlocked the Bard class at lvl 13, loaded my game back to when I was lvl 8 and Bard was still unlocked but Ranger was not.

Is their another way to get Ranger without the book, is thier a special time whne your supposed to open it? Please any info would help so my next playthrough can run smooth.

The fact that most of these look like Alistair and Leliana really shows up the lack of variety in the face creator thingy.

Happens in game a lot too, I see a guy who looks just like my warden or one of my party and go 'huh?'
I think you can make pretty unique looking characters if you are willing to sacrifice some of the generic pretty girl/handsome guy look a bit in favour of a face with more personality.

People probably just tend to go a bit like "whatever" with it and end up with a generic face. It can be a bit difficult to find that look that is neither generic and goofy in all those sliders. It takes a bit more time and thought.

Sadly, he didn't quite make it. Human Arcane Warrior.

Noble Human Female Mage. I love mods. She's still running around Ostagar killing prisoners and curing Mabari. She is pretty though.
Nice looking characters, though I personally don't like to make female characters that touched up most of the time. Doesn't really seem that believable for a battle-hardened, natural military leader.

Then again, perhaps not too silly for a mage noble. By the way, link for that mod please? I want to start with a noble background, but really don't like having four warriors (seeing how three was already pretty pointless) and I already did a rogue character (and having three rogues was also a bit pointless).
Used the aforementioned More Hairstyles mod for her hair, Of Noble Cast [http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=395] mod to tweak the starting gear you get in the area (Notice that she's wearing a dress rather than the standard leather armour stuff?) and the Metagame Items [http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13] mod to change my class (has a few other things as well.)

There is another mod which can mix up your Origins and Class for what you'd like, but I found MetaGame Items a more streamlined experience, even if it does take up like seven inventory spaces :p

People will still refer back to your Human Noble origin as a mage ("My family all got murdered by Arl Howe") but conversations will treat you as a mage at times as well (You can mention the Harrowing at one point, Morrigan treats you like a Circle Mage), I should think it mostly depends on which variable the conversation is checking at the time.

If you really want to go crazy with your character's looks, go for this [http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=473] plus the five mods listed under the 'Required for Full Version' section. Not tried it myself yet, but reports seem to be pretty good.

Perhaps... maybe I just wasn't good at it, because I spent half an hur trying to make a decent looking one!

After downloading a bunch of different mods for hair, faces, tattoos, makeups and the like, I noticed that there was a certain hairstyle and colour which when combined came quite close (though not exactly) to Hatsune Miku [http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/yuuki-hardjack_core/hatsune_miku_004.jpg]

These are the fruits of my 10 minute endeavour to recreate her in Dragon Age:

Now if only I had some skill at modding clothes to give her the proper outfit.

Edit: Just noticed that when looking straight at her, her face seems too long.

Sigh ;/

I can sympathize, as I just a moment ago tried to make a male human character and gave up pretty quickly... Maybe it's just more difficult to envision another character after having only just finished the game with the previous one or maybe it's more difficult to make a male character who looks likable than a female one.

Either way, can't really find any inspiration right now... I mean, when I made the previous one, I took one look at the tattoos you could use and almost immediately got a faint idea of what I was going for. Now it's more about randomly playing around with sliders and going: "Meh, guess this works," ending up with a mix of separately made tweaks.

If I recall, I found making my first Shepard in ME1 quite easy, since I pretty quickly got this idea of making something slightly similar to how adult John Connor looked in a brief peek to the future in Terminator (or was it Terminator 2?). Don't know if he actually looks anything like him, since it was just a faint memory of the scene I worked with (which is actually for the better).
Anyway, the point is that it really comes down to getting inspiration from somewhere (and having decent enough editor to actually get close enough to your idea).

Seeing how this is Bioware's character maker we are talking about, downloading a better hair pack probably wouldn't hurt either... One thing they could improve on.

Funnily enough, I had no problem making a female DA character either, she's a pretty little thing that only took me five minutes to make.

Mass Effect is another one where the female characters look much better. But I did manage a rather dashing male Shep after about 6 tries...

Can't post a pic because my laptop's acting up but mine is basically a human noble rouge version of travis touchdown. Sums up backstory and look.

Interesting tale: I have no screenshot but when I first started the game I made a Dalish Elf Male Rogue-tan skin, long blond hair. I had no knowledge of any story or party member elements before I bought the game, I flew in blind. When I first met Zevran, he was my character's twin.

Shepard Cousland. Yes, his name is inspired by one of Bioware's minor franchises. Level 22 Warrior. My elven rogue didn't show up. I'm guessing PC players have better options with posting their characters. Yes, his name is inspired by one of Bioware's minor franchises.

Xana Cousland, Rogue / Duellist / Assasin, and optically as close as I could get to myself, given there's only short hair, and I'm not as red-haired, nor as pale as I'd like to be.

Anyone know how I can make my character's cheeks look rounder and less old looking? My characters always end up looking scary and strange.

I think there's a slider that does exactly that, "Cheeks Shallow/Full" or something. Changing the skin complexion can help too, the younger looking being on the left of the slider and old on the right.
