I heard the PS3 has slowdown? Is this the case? I have a 360 but it's not hooked up to the internet so I basically don't play it. And when I hook it up it's going to need to update for like 3 hours so I never feel like hooking it up.

Also, considering it's Capcom I may as well just wait for the super edition, which I'm sure will be out in 4 - 6 months.
No major slow down no. You notice it during huge fights, but it's nothing gamebreaking.

I can't get the main theme of the game out of my head...

It's so fucking catchy!

If the combat is alot better than Skyrim's, I wouldn't doubt it that the game is better. It's not like Skyrim had these great 'story' elements or rpg mechanics anyway.

Unless it's just COMPLETLY DOGshit in other areas, that is.
Honestly, I might buy it to just kill things and get loot. Which this games seems to do well. I'll make my own story. About killing things and getting loot.

So far I like it, but I'm not in awe over it. I played for about five hours, mind you so I definitely don't have the full experience yet. The pawns are fucking annoying, though, even after only five hours. They NEVER shut the fuck up and always repeat the same sentences three times in five minutes. It's maddening.

It gets a few extra points thanks to one pawn I met who was called FuckerButt.

character creation is cool but the world is starting to feel small and repetitive, there's no fast travel system and the same monster spawn in the same areas over and over again
Lemme stop you right there, because you are wrong on both accounts (well, semi-wrong on the second one at least) Having sunk 15+ hours into the game already, I can attest to there being a fast travel system AND random encounters. as far as the fast travel goes, you need two things: 9-10k gold to buy a one-use stone that'll teleport you back to the main capital city, and if you want to fast travel anywhere else, you have to collect these glowing crystal things and plant them in the ground wherever you want to teleport to later.

As far as the random spawns go, there ARE designated spawn areas that certain types of mobs will respawn to after X amount of ingame time has passed, but the game ALSO incorporates random spawns too that can take the place of normal spaws or create new spawns in places there are normally not any.

Case in point, on my first character (Which I deleted because I ended up gimping myself into a corner) my second day at the capital city I left town to go gather some shit for an armor upgrade and as soon as I walk out the front gates a griffon swoops down and kills 3 guards before flying away. Nothing like that happened on my second character until I was around level 23 walking through some woods at night when a Drake swoops in outta nowhere, smashes through the trees, and eats my primary pawn in one attack before torching the rest of my team, forcing me to flee blindly into the night whereupon I ran off a cliff and died.

you'll soon learn where bandits, giants, etc. are as you learn the map more and more, night travel is still terrifying and the grabbing onto monsters quickly losses its appeal after latching on seems to be the only required strategy :(
How long have you been playing? Are you using a party of ONLY warriors/fighters or something?

The only time I ever need to climb on the bigger enemies anymore is if they are flying and I need to ground them or if they are wearing armor that needs to be chipped off, then my two mage pawns nuke the ever loving fuck outta them with uber spells.

I've only been playing for 20 hours, got it yesterday in the mail, but so far the game is great but I can see myself putting it down pretty soon in favor of Diablo 3 and Tera :/
You... would pick a mediocre sequel cash in and a grindfest over... this.

I just realized I wasted my time.

My favorite part about the footage i've seen so far is how the game looks in no way like Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

No big deal. I wasn't attacking your tastes. Well, maybe for liking Diablo 3, but that's just my bias against Blizzard for using that stupid always online DRM crap.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I think it really feels like a Capcom game, in the sense that the direction is... just weird. But the action and customization are just awesome.

However, it really sucks that you can only have one save file. I accidentally game my pawn a girlier voice than I intended, and it bothered me so much that I was driven to start all over again.

Yeah. I know.

Yep. This is very much the case. If you somehow had no idea this was a Capcom game, you would really only have to play it for a couple of minutes (if that) before you would know for sure that it was. For better or wose, DD is very much a game from the Capcom mold.

Tehj game is absolutely amazing. Easily one of the best RPG's I have played. At first i was a bit iffy about the fact the game has only one save slow, however never fear! Upon beating the game it unlocks a new game + mode where you can staert the game over however you will keep you current level and all you old character weapons will be transferred over to the item storage. Because of this I made my second playthrough an experiment for all the different classes (you can change class at any time in an inn) so I am enjoying playing around with my ranger right now. Gunna try out a mage like character in a bit I am really interested in how the magic aiming system works in this game and want to take a look. I am not sure whjat alot of peopale are complaining about in regards to graphics errors and frame-rate issues I must have been a lcuky one becasuse I for one habve never had any noticeabkle dip in frame-rate or any rendering issues.

here my full review of the game as i really dont feel like trying to sum it all up again xD

Basically I'll just sum up what I said somewhere else: don't go into this expecting a great story or good character interactions. I know that sounds major, but for some reason (and believe me I was surprised too since I'm always about good stories) it's just...fun. Granted I've essentially gotten to the point where I've made up my own story but that's beside the point.

The classes are fun and each has nicely varied roles. Even basic vocations will be better than advanced ones depending on the use you want. Sorcerers just plain feel powerful (making the ground explode like a geyser, come on that's awesome), striders are quick and excellent when climbing enemies, rangers hit enemies so hard with their bow they send them flying over the nearest mountain, mages cure ailments and debuff enemies excellently then switch to offensive in a hearbeat, fighters hunker down behind their shield one second and lunge out the next, warriors swing giant weapons in huge arcs and slaughter everything, magick archers have a fun play style and nice varied shots with their bow (ranging from a bouncing lightning arrow to turning an arrow into an actual flare), assassins are quick and deadly, and mystic knights use their giant shields and one handed weapons to support allies and become a living wall.

Pawns are chatty, no avoiding it, but they are also pretty damn useful. There's a high chance a pawn you recruit will have quest knowledge on whatever you're doing and will tell you exactly what you need to know (even so far as to warning you before you even leave the city that you should bring as little as possible, turns out you're hauling 5 heavy stones around), not to mention shouting out enemy weaknesses, or if they frenzy and become more dangerous (important to know for ogres, those drop kicking bastards). Their A.I. is actually really good too, I even saw my main pawn avoid a trap! Amazing isn't it?

The world is pretty basic and standard, but eh despite that I still enjoy running around, finding new paths and nearly running off high cliffs. Night time is interesting though, because more monsters come out (usually stronger as well), undead will pop out of the ground on the road and other enemies will jump you before you even see them (yes, it gets so dark sometimes you can barely see the damn road without a lantern) and I permanently became careful at night after a freaking chimera jumped on me out of the darkness.

Combat is just fun. All you need to know. Which is good since it lacks on two other major points (story and characters).

Notice board quests aren't quite as bad as most "kill x" missions since it's almost always kill, not gather anything. And it auto-completes, so they're more like free gold and xp than grinds.

All in all it's just fun. I can't pinpoint why I enjoy it like I do, but I do. I would recommend getting it, but I would also say wait for the price to drop a bit. Just because I'm having a bunch of fun doesn't mean I think it's worth a full $60.

P.S. I still have no idea what to think of that song on the title screen. It just came out of nowhere, and I think I'm too stunned still to even know what to think.

I'll be getting it in about a week and a half. I've got no money at the moment.

I'm looking forward to it, I've looked at a lot of gameplay videos and I'm impressed by what I've seen. It looks really fun, so yeah.

I really didn't like the demo. The combat was confusing, my "pawns" were always in the way, controls seem unresponsive, the enemies were damage sponges, and I didn't get what they were going for with the grabbing mechanic. Grabbing worked in Shadow of The Colossus because you were climbing mountain-sized creatures, but what's the point here? I was pumped about holding onto that griffin and battling him 200 feet in the air, but WTF, he wouldn't even fly while I was on him. Why set up something so awesome if you aren't going to go through with it, Capcom?

The world also came off as beyond generic. Like, Oblivion level generic.

I'm still somewhat interested though. A good review might persuade me yet.
I was fighting the griffin 100 feet in the air. He wont fly if his wings are on fire is probably more what it is.
In the main game I've had to use the climbing mechanic to cut off a hyrda's head, stab a cyclops in the eye (twice!) and such. I like that there is no fast travel that way you don't just ignore the challenges of going through the road at night or if you're far away from civilization and the sun goes down you kind of freak out a bit.

The world is kind of generic except that everything is in ruins including the capital makes it feel very old.

I'm not getting the comparisons to Dark Souls that people are throwing out other than the combat is complex without being difficult.

My biggest complaint is that for whatever reason there are restrictions on what classes your main pawn can be. I wanted mine to be a Mystic Warrior but that isn't allowed for some arbitrary reason. Second is the save system you only get ONE save and it autosaves constantly which you cannot turn off. So if say you're messing around with a new power an accidentally hit a guardsmen. You aren't getting that 5000g back.

It also sucks because this means you can only have ONE character which has pissed my wife off pretty bad since she wants to start her own as well. We tried setting up a 2nd ps3 account that did not work.

I love Capcom's excuse for not making a PC version. It must be one of the dumbest excuses not to do something in history of excuses. It's worse than "dog ate my homework". It's even worse if they're actually serious because it speaks volumes of their incompetence.

Is it as bad as the reasoning for putting monster hunter Tri on the Wii exclusively?

OT: Getting further ahead in the game and started a mystic knight, sadly no secondary maces to be bought only ones i've found were primary handed.

Ahh, that griffon, I thought it was a part of 1 of the quests I just accepted, still that monster annoyed me, damn bird flew away before I got a chance to attack it. I'm also pretty sure it flew over the walls and into the capital to which I thought huzzah I can show off my epicness by killing it in a city full of witnesses, of course there was no griffon inside.

Still have to say the game started off kind of slow (usual rpg thing) then before I knew it, it was 1 in the morning. I really must recommend it though I agree with some people about why are we only allowed 1 save file it would be nice to have 3 or 4 different characters I could switch between depending on what play style I want to use.

Anyone find unique gear? My brother found a few items in different spots that weren't there for me. I found a mask called gossips mask that has a dragons mouth painted on it. It wasn't in the thieves den location (grimoire quest)where I found it on my brothers game. It looks awesome btw. :D Game is sick!
I haven't found much of anything yet. I've only just managed to get to the big city after the starting village without getting gutter stomped and skull fucked.

Well, I like the pawn/rift system.

My character is level 19 or so, has never seen 30,000 gold in one spot before. He rests and the pawn goes off to do its thing with another arisen. She comes back with an inventory full of utterly epic WIN!.

A chest plate worth 400,000. A cloak worth 120,000 and a sword worth 88,000.
None of which are usable by my character or main pawn. So now I'm obscenely rich considering how far along I am. What a cool system.
