It seems there has been a rash of violence by parents or caretakers to control the gaming habits of their wards. Which, of course, is the most ironic thing I've written all week.

This is going to be a blow against anti-gaming propaganda mainly because now the over zealous idiots are begining to get despirate enough to kill.

Too late to say "in b4 just a normal scottish day" so I will say this:

This guy's mother is Oprah compared to mine. My mom would threaten to hurt herself if I keep playing my games. This kid needs to count his blessings, I'm not saying the stab ix bad, hell a crime against video games should be jail time.

Jeez, who would be stupid enough to stab themselves just to get there parent in trouble?

She needs a better defense.

Time to call Phoenix Wright, me thinks?
Better yet, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law!

In both of the recent cases (stabbing above, and the parent calling 9/11) the basic issue was the perception that they couldn't get their kid to stop gaming at a moment's notice. I could be wrong about the details here, but it's a gut feeling based on what I've seen and experienced personally.
Heh. One of the reasons I first started playing RTS games so much. Compared to other games, they're generally easy to save and quit when the parentals decide you have .2 seconds left to play before they crack it. Shooters are generally horrible for saves, most sports games.

Actually, it seems the newer the game is, the more likely it is to have a checkpoint or temporary save function in place of a permanent save. Forcing you to play the entire level and watch a small movie before saving.

Any clue to what he was playing? In the last news post about something like this, he was playing GTA4. Or is it simply too much time playing?
Completely unrelated to your post, but your display pic is beating in time to tetris techno that's currently playing. Nice pic. lol

Sounds like a normal evening for a Scot. Hell, it's pretty tame.

Also, "Drunken Scottish Woman" is pretty redundant. You could just redact the 'drunken' part ;)

What's with that? No English person I know likes Welsh, although they're fine with Irish which they're still fighting with. :S

The irony is to massive for me to be able to feel sympathy.

Back on topic, this.

On the downside, Atkinson will still use this to protest against video games. :( Can picture the headline now.

"Video games incite parents to violence. SAVE THE CHILDREN!!"
Hah, I'm English and I love the Irish best of all, then the Scots, then the Welsh, and I actually really dislike the English. Ironic, right? I don't like my own country but the other countries (that we've historically hated since the Middle Ages) are my favourite places in the world. Especially Ireland ;)

Anyway, as for the main topic, I just have one thing to say. If Keith Vaz tries to turn this into a Thompson or Atkinson style palaver then I will probably do the exact same thing as the drunken woman did to the boy. Except I'll do it to Vaz. And it won't just be a knife... ;D
Haha. You English.. Weirder than a nerd in a social setting. And I meant that in the nicest possible way. =P

I still find the Welsh thing confusing though..

Not all English people love the Scots or the Irish! I have to live with the drunken ruffians north of the border.

If I remember correctly, the DVR PSX machine has the X in the name to represent it's introduction of the XMB function.
Which makes that the official PSX.
Only in Japan... the only area where it was available. The original gray PlayStation is still the PSX to several of us.

Mastered Irony! This is the second thread I've read about where a parent does something outrageous because of their gamer child. I'm sure there are more but this is the most craziest one so far. I hope it doesn't get worse.

(Facepalm) And they say too many video games make *KIDS* act violent?

Maybe no one ever anicitpated the effect they would have on adults...?

I'm sure this woman deserves her punishment.

She should have been beating her child from a young age, with a proper grounding in discipline, radical parental measures like stabbing are unnecessary.

I'm just trying to say, I'm guessing this kid was a little bit of a shit and partly responsible for driving the lady up the wall.

I think the Welsh part is redundant, though sometimes their accents make me giggle. And I do love me some Goldie Lookin Chain.

It's possible the kid could have done that. After all, a Republican woman carved a "B" into her face and tried to say she was attacked by Barack Obama supporters.

Not saying that this is similar, but I wouldn't put it past people to do that sort of thing.

I feel guilty about the fact that I have actually been laughing all the way through this article. (Note: after reading over this, I have to put in this clarification so that people don't believe I'm truely heartless. I'm laughing at the irony of this current situation, not the other one).
Last time it was a drunken father shooting a kid over a missing game and now a drunken mother stabbing over an overused game. We've just filled up all the categories here (down to the fact the victim's statis afterwards). Well, except for the fact that we haven't gotten the "Sober/Sane" one yet. Seriously, why are games the focus here when drunks are allowed weapons?
