I watched the trailers read alot of stuff about the game, BUT i dont think its very good i don't think it will be very good or fun. i also don't like Duke as a character either, too me he is just a sexist wanker and the only thing i think will be good is his one liners. Plus Aliens look pretty cool too.

I know this is harsh and i haven't played it so i can't say its shit but this is just my thoughts on the subject.

But what are your thoughts on the NEW duke Nukem coming out? will it be a winner? or a Fail?

Having played it before, I can tell you that it is good.
I'm definitely buying it.

If you dont like the character, you wont like the game. I dont expect this game to be revolutionary or smart or anything. For it to be good in my book it has to be fast and fun like Duke Nukem 3D, and have the same charm. One thing I loved was the billions of references everywhere. It was also genuinly creepy at times. I remember the area in Abyss with the mysterious chants from nowhere "You know we're gonna get you..."

I don't know the storyline (I was waayyy to young to play it way back when), so I dobut I will pick it up.

Still, it is hard to say right now that a game will "fail"

To judge Duke Nukem's character would be like judging Arnold's terminator character for not being deep enough. He's a one-man, badass killing machine from the future. Duke is pretty much the same, only he's not a robot and doesn't travel back in time. He is the embodiment of every big action hero to grace both the small and big screen.

I mean, if his treatment of fictitious women in a virtual world bothers you, find yourself a new medium dude. These ARE video games we're talking about. They're not exactly known for their incredible treatment of women, but there's always hope that we'll get past that issue. Then again, TV, movies, and music still have trouble treating women with respect, so I'm not going to hold my breath. As for the gameplay, it seems like they've got all their ducks in a row. As long as they keep to the formula that made Duke Nukem 3-D awesome (while incorporating modern shooter elements of course) it will be a solid shooter. Not expecting anything incredible, but it'll probably be worth a weekend rental.

Remains to be seen. I personally think It'll be a hit-or-miss game at this point. People will either enjoy it or be to stuck up to enjoy it.

Duke is ONE LINERS. The point of Duke is ONE LINERS.

As I said before; it's a hit or miss thing. If you're too insecure or stuck-up to enjoy some low-brow over-the-top humor; then you probably shouldn't play it... or go to 4-chan...

It'll be a split. Some people will love it, some will hate it. Most people with a PC will Pirate it.

I have very high hopes for Duke. People who are bashing it to me seem petty. While I do respect their opinions I completely disagree with them. I see the game turning out like Half Life 2..but with boobs..and a glory hole. All in all, I have high hopes.

*Ahem*

OP:
I'd just like to point out that Duke isn't really a sexist so much as he's a hedonist, he knows what he likes and he likes lot's of it.

As for wether it'll be good?

I'd say about 60/40 that it'll at least be pretty descent, though I highly doubt it'll recapture the magic of Duke 3D.

I find your ideals about video games to be exceedingly cynical and unnecessarily complacent with the games market.

I don't have high hopes for it either it looks like a generic shooter, that's only selling point is a sense of humor that looks like it get tiring the second level.

I don't care if it's the "Friday" of games, I'm buying it on principle. It's freakin' Duke Nukem Forever, the game that seemed cursed and came back from the dead.

It's a legend.

Also, for the record, it actually does look fun.

This isn't a shot at you personally, just an observation I've had- I haven't heard ANY shooter of recent time not described as "Generic Shooter". It kinda bothers me...

Having never played the originals, I can impartially say that you should wait rather than make a thread about disliking something that isn't even out yet. Right now there just isn't much good/reliable information, so we can't accurately predict what the game will be like.

A game from 2004? Yeah, that sounds about right.

[sub]Sorry, you set that one up.[/sub]

Yeah it reminds me of Bulletstorm again. I don't buy a FPS due to its singleplayer/1 liners.

If you want me to do anything beyond rent you need to provide some long lasting multiplayer or a single player with 30+ hours.

Unfortunately a multiplayer experience on a shooter that isn't COD or Halo seems impossible, so i'm going to assume Duke fails at multiplayer.

We've had some good shooters recently Bioshock, Portal, Metroid Prime. I'm probably just not a big enough shooter fan to want to play the dozens of mediocre shooters(every genre has these and I'm willing to play the mediocre platformers) out there.

Serious Sam > Duke Nukem imo. I played both, and they were both fine games. I just didn't like the duke nukem game as much as i did serious sam.

I do have a pretty good feeling for the new duke nukem. HOWEVER, I do believe a lot of people are a little too hyped up about it and are all going to be disappointed in it. People are setting their standards a little too high for the game and are going to be crushed (exactly what happened with Cataclysm). All in all, don't get your hopes too high for any game.

Duke Nukem games are deliberately not to be taken seriously. (I mean, come on. You don't take Serious Sam seriously either, right?) Worrying about the machismo of the Duke is like worrying about whether it's sunny out or slightly cloudy. It doesn't matter.

I wouldn't call those "recent", but ok, I get you.

Actually, to be honest, although I don't like that "generic shooter" is the go-to term for mediocrity, I haven't exactly played or praised most FPS's of late...

... also, Metroid Prime <3
