Im buying it.

He may be a sexist wanker but thats the funny part about him.
Better that then what other stuff is out there TRYING to be serious when duke nukems trying be a fun game unlike the realistic crap being pooped out of the giant ass known as gaming.

Im not sure though 14 years in development must mean its decent atleast.
I mean if everyone thinks call of dutys good and they get pooped out per year with only a few more maps and guns along with some graphics nummed down its got to be good.
A big chunk of those 14 years, the developers were slacking off and constantly re-making it, 'cause the game consoles/graphics changed.

I'm expecting a fun FPS, with little or not plot which makes absolutely no sense, and without a shred of political correctness.

I'm definitely not looking for it to be the next Bioshock, or even Half Life :)

i also don't like Duke as a character either, too me he is just a sexist wanker and the only thing i think will be good is his one liners. Plus Aliens look pretty cool too.
Except all his one-liners were stolen from somewhere else anyway. Basically, the game has been in production for so long and has been so hyped and long-awaited that I will be disappointed if it doesn't fail.

He's a one-man, badass killing machine from the future. Duke is pretty much the same, only he's not a robot and doesn't travel back in time.
*Ahem*

OP:
I'd just like to point out that Duke isn't really a sexist so much as he's a hedonist, he knows what he likes and he likes lot's of it.

As for wether it'll be good?

I'd say about 60/40 that it'll at least be pretty descent, though I highly doubt it'll recapture the magic of Duke 3D.
Ah, good point sir. I forgot about that....

There's literally no way to tell until they put the game out.

My money is that it will be mediocre at best. If the game really was that solid and good, it would have already been released. The fact that it took this long to even approach completion implies that it is a project that had to be rebooted time and time again, made by a team that couldn't get their heads straight and effectively co-operate and communicate.

Gearbox helped to complete the game, but with such an abysmal foundation, created by such an incompetent team at 3D realms, I'm afraid even WITH Gearboxes help the game will be mediocre, boring and probably dull. Quality is built into a game from day one. Few games spontaneously become good magically half-way through development, and DNF's history shows that neither quality nor consistency was a goal for this obviously incompetent team. I'm sorry, but incompetent is the only word to describe a team that couldn't even finish a game within a decade. You might say that they were over-ambitious, but that is itself a sign of incompetence and stupidity. Competent teams don't bite off more than they can chew).

So even if Gearbox (who made the wonderful Borderlands) is releasing this game, it is mostly a product of that 3D realms team. And that can't be good.

To judge Duke Nukem's character would be like judging Arnold's terminator character for not being deep enough. He's a one-man, badass killing machine from the future. Duke is pretty much the same, only he's not a robot and doesn't travel back in time. He is the embodiment of every big action hero to grace both the small and big screen.

I mean, if his treatment of fictitious women in a virtual world bothers you, find yourself a new medium dude. These ARE video games we're talking about. They're not exactly known for their incredible treatment of women, but there's always hope that we'll get past that issue. Then again, TV, movies, and music still have trouble treating women with respect, so I'm not going to hold my breath. As for the gameplay, it seems like they've got all their ducks in a row. As long as they keep to the formula that made Duke Nukem 3-D awesome (while incorporating modern shooter elements of course) it will be a solid shooter. Not expecting anything incredible, but it'll probably be worth a weekend rental.
I find your ideals about video games to be exceedingly cynical and unnecessarily complacent with the games market.
Well, I'm sorry if I offended you, but I didn't mean to come off as cynical and certainly not complacent. I'm just stating the broad generalization of people who don't play video games. Look at any opinion-based news network (fox news fox news fox news fox news) and they'll be happy to tell you how games are making us mindless killers and warping our view of women as nothing more than disposable pleasures. I wish it wasn't like that, but that's kind of how it is at the moment. And it probably will be until we get past this whole phase of "games are evil, blah blah blah" that the media keeps spewing out. And Duke Nukem is kind of a parody of all those generalized stereotypes and, now that I think about it, I would be damn surprised if those opinion based news networks didn't jump all over it, if they haven't already.

It's going to be hilarious, I'll play through it just for the humor even if the gameplay sucks (wich I really, really doubt).

Have you seen these trailers? This game will be hilarious.

If it comes out in 2011, I'm buying it. If it comes out in 2012, I'm buying it. If it comes out in 2035, I'M STILL BUYING IT!

Anyway, yeah, I think it looks like a lot of fun.

It might suck. This is a chance worth taking. It probably won't.

I don't know the average age on Escapist, but I grew up with Duke Nukem, Doom, Castle Wolfenstein, Command & Conquer... there is a nostalgic quality. When you're like 10 or 11, Duke is the funniest damn thing ever. I used to go visit my dad on weekends at my step mom's house and I would play Duke Nukem and Doom 2 non stop because I didn't have a computer.

They're just a bit burnt out on Bulletstorm at the moment. Unfortunately the only way that this trend of mindless uninformed hatred will come to a close is when the industry starts making games that do break the molds we have become accustomed to and prove irrevocably that games do deserve as much respect as any other artistic media. This isn't going to happen in reverse.

Unfortunately a multiplayer experience on a shooter that isn't COD or Halo seems impossible, so i'm going to assume Duke fails at multiplayer.
This is where you lose me. How does that seem impossible? There are loads of great multiplayer shooters. In fact, I would often rather play the two you listed LESS than most others.

Duke is a parody personality, he's supposed to be a sexist wanker.
I don't really see him as sexist. Being sexist implies you think one sex is inferior to your own. Duke isn't sexist at all. He thinks everyone is inferior to him. That's his whole hook.

This again? Look, it doesn't matter if it's great, it doesn't even need to be decent. It's a part of gaming history and EVERYONE is going to buy it.
Its like if you got to buy the last Da Vinci piece ever made, even if it is total garbage and you payed like five dollars for it, you still want it and you will buy it.
Besides, from what I've seen of it, it should be fun, so why not?

We also need to show the industry we don't want only "realistic", serious, crap FPSes. That alone is worth the money.

When did we bring RTSs into this? Or did you mean FPS? Because I love me some Real-Time-Strategy.
