There's immaturity, then this. How fucking ridiculous.
I'm definately not getting this, and I stand by my prediction in a post I did a couple of weeks ago that Duke will simply not live up to the hype. Either that, or it will, and then everyone'll sort of sober up from the 15-year-long hype and then realise it's a shit game. Which I think it will be. Go on Duke, prove me wrong, with your mediocre graphics, stupidly simple gameplay and less maturity than a 7-year-old.
First of all: Definitely.

2ndly this kind of humor, this kind of raunch IS Duke Nukem. That *IS* living up to it's namesake. Are you that much of a prude you can't enjoy tongue and cheek humor throw back to 90's?

I don't have any hype for this game save what I've seen in the trailers. The campaign looks fun and different from the plethora of shooters on the market right now. The only thing that worries me is how the controls will be, beyond that I can't see how this will fail.

I can get the desire for retro goodness, but really? I mean, we weren't expecting this to be in good tastes, but I got over playing this type of game around the same time I stopped being a rebellious teenager.

I'm not saying everything needs to be a serious angst-fest or anything, but I already own Duke Nukem 3D and can play it any time I want to play something that has grade-school level humour in it. Aside from the ego-meter part (which is an interesting idea), this looks horrendously weak and dated.

And here I thought the industry was at least trying to grow up a bit.

Loved Bulletstorm (though the story was a bit lacking)....
Did this.....did this really surprise you?

OT: I wonder if there is any reason for picking up feces and throwing it at walls. Or is it just for shits and giggles? Because in that case.....what the flippin heck?

Oh god, I live in Australia. All news was good news until now, and seeing this article, I really don't see it going past the iron grip of the OFLC. =(
Or if it does, it will definitely win GameSpot's "most surprising game to make it past Aussie censorship" award for 2011.

You might want to start work on a system to cope with your shock just in case. Okay I'm sorry that was bad.

You sadden me dear Escapists.
HOLY CRAP!! Dude I had no idea that others made the same joke. Seriously though, that is pretty damn funny that 3 of us obliviously made the same joke.

Sorry about that DX

I was thinking the exact same thing, maybe with different wording.

OT: As bad as everyone assumes this game will be, I still want to check it out. It's fuckin Duke! Regardless, I assume Fox will not let this pass by their poorly established newsteams and off-the-corner psychiatrist advice. :D

First off, I've been spelling it wrong all my life then, so thanks for the correction. No sarcasm intended, I'm grateful.

Second, No, I'm not a prude, so don't be an arsehole and call me one. I was not raised in the 90s. I am 15. I was 5 years old when the nineties ended. The only thing I remember before the age of 8 is a breif bit of my fifth birthday party, so I apologise if I don't really get tongue-in-cheeck-90s humour. It doesn't make me a prude for not enjoying things other people enjoy. I just don't find the stuff I've seen in Duke Nukem Forever so far funny in any way.

I think it will, initially, be a success. It'll make a shitload from the build-up, and get good reviews from people who want the change from the typical modern shooter, and/or wanted Duke back and have been waiting over a decade. I just think it'll be underwhelming for people like me, who have not really played Duke at all, and have grown up around more serious shooters of recent years, like Call of Duty and Halo to name a few.

On a side note, I'm loving the shit out of Bulletstorm.
Feed guys to plants. Feed explosives to plants. Wrap explosive around guy, feed him to plant. DOUBLE POINTS.

It doesn't appeal to me either. I just accept it as a game that appeals to others, and leave it at that.

Unfortunately, barely anyone else seems to follow this philosophy...

*Predicts 'get off your high horse!'-esque rebuke*
Mispredicted!

I accept that it appeals to others, I just fail to see how.
Like I said in answer to SaneAmongInsane above me, I guess I just wasn't raised around that kind of humour. Or I just don't find it funny.

I'm fine to let other people like it, and in my original post I never attacked anyone else on this forum's opinion, I merely stated mine.

Good to know the game has a sense of humour and is running with it. I like my realistic games, I like my cartoonish games. Need a few more on the cartoonish side I say.

No offense, but can you at least wait for say, a trailer, at the least, before you slate on it?

OT:

Preordered the balls of steel edition today. Fuck yeah, the king is back.

Good to see duke will be blowing minds with his dry wit and sophisticated sense of humour.
