Speak for yourself, Duke Nukem 3D was amazing at the time and it is still relatively good today.
You really want to argue that it was amazing at the time? What did it provide, really? Pseudo-3D graphics? A plethora of guns and ammunition? Because that wasn't anything new. In fact, the game took every ounce of it's inspiration from other games who had attempted the whole pseudo-3D thing before it.
It just did it with style. And that's what made the games good.
But you have to understand, that my argument for 'good' doesn't mean what you might think it does. I'm not saying that Duke Nukem 3D was bad. I'm saying it was exactly the kind of mediocre re-hash of existing game mechanics that Duke Nukem Forever is.
But it's the STYLE of the games that matters. It's the attitude.
It's this world of machismo and insanity and sleazy women and sleazier men. It's this world full of arrogance and shocking amounts of self-awareness. And while it doesn't do everything it could have done, neither did Duke Nukem 3D.
It took the Atomic version for the game to really feel like anything more than a pretty-ified, sexed up DOOM clone. And even then it was just a pretty-ified, sexed-up DOOM clone that took place in hilariously amazing locations.
And despite this fact, I loved every second of it then, too.
The style. For me, it's that style... the cheesy B-movie style. Duke has always embodied that for me, and DNF is no exception in my book.
