I understand that people are book-smart and have no common sense thus dumb smart kid. The form I am asking about is the difference between knowing when to be serious and when not to be. I mean I get good grades and most of the kids at my school who get 4.2's seem to put themselves higher then others. There is nothing wrong with self-confidence but to ignore someone based on the grades is just ridiculous. I try to live in a spectrum so I know my people however they may be. I goof off a lot just to have fun and not be all prestigous. People see me however as someone who is smart but acts like an idiot. I do so because it's fun I figure these are the most carefree times of my life so why should I pretend to act grown up and not my age? So my peers see me as a dumb-smart kid for having fun. Is it really a dumb way to spend my high school years? Should I reform and be a model citizen at the age of 16 who prides myself on knowledge I do not yet have? Well I'm looking for an anwser ,but I see it as a grey area.

What is the point of this thread?
Yeah, for a smart person he sure has poor grammar. Poor to the point that it is hard to understand what he is saying.

Basically the OP is annoyed at the smart people in his school for calling him an idiot because he 'goofs' around but still gets good grades, or something like that.

I know what you're talking about. There are some people at my school taking twenty AP classes, studying for club tests, and just being serious about everything. I have a 5 some-odd weighted GPA, and I goof off all the time. I have no doubts people think I'm an idiot, but it's purely because I think joking around is more important than being serious all the time.

I just wish I could stop this damn procrastination.

Grades are worthless for determining how smart someone is. Your ability to memorize useless information is of no true concern to anyone around you. Some of the smartest people I have ever met were crap students.

As for having for or not, I say go for it. You can tell if someone is an idiot if they can't separate work time and playtime. I drink, I party, I do drugs, I play videogames, I play sports... I do all sorts of fun stuff but I know when it is necessary to actually do some work.

I think that wisdom overpowers intelligence. If you can live your life based on your own morals, view of the world, common sense, and ability to learn from your mistakes, then you are one of the smartest people I know.

I understand where he is coming from. I've always struggled in school because I am lazy, but I am more than smart enough to do all of the work. I think there is come quote about knowledge being gold in gold mines or something. I guess it's up to the person to pick how they want to use their knowledge.

As much as I agree that grades do not determine intelligence, our society is based around it. I mean, even someone who cheats on a test gets a high grade can indeed get the same grade as someone who studies a lot.

However, my way of thinking is if you can get a good grade on a test by way of cheating and not get caught doing it, I believe that person deserves the grade he gets/ Cheating may be wrong, but it takes a smart person to cheat right and do it in ways that are sneaky.

My logic. intelligence is based on what you do, not a a scoring method.

Anyone can get good grades as long as they have work ethic. Some of the dumbest people I know have straight A's.

Also, this

I have friends from various grade averages, people who flunked out because they were lazy and didn't care to people who worked hard and got straight A's.

Me, i was a C student because I procrastinated and yet most of my friends considered me smart. I knew a lot of straight A students but none of them looked down on me.

As long as you don't neglect your studies in favour of goofing around then you're not dumb.

I fall short of my full potential because I procrastinate too much.

There are reasonable ways one can fall short of their absolute maximum potential, I could spend every school lunch break studying in the library but instead I go running and flipping around the school. I feel that is reasonable since spending my lunch breaks in the library would be extremely boring, my time is my time.

I, also, would like to know.
I think the OP is trying to differentiate between intellectualism and social maturity, which as far as I am aware are entirely disparate entities anyway. The problem here is that the OP is suggesting that to be book-smart you have to act book-smart i.e. there is a certain straitlaced mentality attached to the property of superior intelligence. However, if you have ever met people truly insightful and enlightened in their field of study, there is actually little correlation between these two traits.

Think Einstein who was socially inept, and Newton who was puritanical.

Ha, up until I was about 13 or 14, I used to kinda look down on people who didn't do as well as me, in a "well they'll be washing my expensive car" kinda way whenever they bugged me. I am now a depressed misanthrope. They showed me!

really things like that aren't good roads to go down, all it breeds is contempt. just do what work you can and don't waste your life

Well, I would describe myself like the OP, but most people know I'm actually intelligent, because occasionly I would be contemplative, and ask deep philosophical questions of people, and I use "dem big words" and such.
