I hate to break it to you, all percussive instruments (keyboard based instruments [pianno, xylaphone, etc...] are the exceptions) are rediculously easy to play. I was in the percussion section in high school. I played everything from the triangle to the snare. I played drumset in a band for a couple of years too. Frankly, you could be mentally handicapped and still pull a successful performance on any of these instruments out of your ass. So, it's not about how easy they are to play, but what they add to a musical peice.

That said, I'm going to vote for the kazoo, mostly because it's annoying. Seriously, I can not think of any situation in which the kazoo isn't mind blowingly annoying. In the hands of a little kid... it's annoying. And in the hands of some ass hole who actually took the time to learn how to play it... it's even more annoying cause it still sounds like shit and because you have to wonder how much oxygen the guy wasted in learning to play the fucking thing.

Man, that was hilarious. I was disappointed that he didn't play any Legend of Zelda though. Sutpid instrument, though it sounds nice, is the flute, but that's because I cannot make a god damned sound out of them!

Hagaya,

I understand the 6 string bass can reach tones a guitar can't, but it's just silly to me. Why can't people be happy with a 4 string? I mean, I can understand a 5 string in some cases, but the 6 string just seems like over kill to me.

I understand the Strat is an icon, and some of my favorite musicians(Eric Clapton, John Scofield and more) play it with great skill. It's like the Les Paul, they're iconinc and sound great but there's so many different designs for guitars that most people are totally unaware of because all they see in music videos is Strats and Les Pauls. I just think the whole shaping an acoustic like a Strat is kind of a cheap ploy to get more people to buy them simply because the body shape. I buy guitars because they're visually appealing to me, and would never buy a Strat because I, personally, think they're boring.

As for the turntables, I understand they take skill but people who go around talking about how they're musicians and they play turntables pisses me off. But the part about turntables in my post was mostly just a joke.

I actually forgot to mention this on the original, but Ovation acoustic guitars are the most butt fucking retarded thing ever. why would you give your guitar that most people will playing sitting down a rounded back so it slides around all the time? Jesus, the people designing those things have to have gerbils for brains.

Trust me, you haven't seen someone try to play the triangle...I have. And Kpt. Rob, you're probably better than any percussion player I know. Every band rehearsal I have, half of it is trying to get the percussion section to play their notes in the right time and at the right volume.

On topic.

The piano isn't dumb, it may be heavy and expensive, but at least there's a way to play it without being absolutely amazing at it or absolutely horrible, like the harp. And, being the instrument with pretty much the largest pitch range, it is definitely not a dumb instrument(spell it right).
The tambourine is nothing like a maraca, except that you shake it, or you hit it with a stick. BUT it's still pretty stupid, it almost never has any use in a piece of music. If it does, you can never hear it.

Hurray trombone, an instrument that definitely isn't dumb. I play it.

You must have never heard Daft Punk - one More Time then. The Tambourine can be heard clearly at a certain point.

Actually there is usually always a triangle player in every one of my chamber choir concerts and solos. So yea i have, and even that guy says he loves his job as the triangle player because its easy. He has a masters degree in musical composition for the perscussion section.
The percussion players in my band must be retarded, then. Oh wait, now I remember. Our triangle players were not getting their part right AT ALL. Then, as a joke, my band director chose a flute/keyboard player to try the part and she got it right. I guess they ARE just retarded.

sir I hate to break it to you but.................your a talented musician 90% of people that I know who exist can't play the drumset properly and most of those people are geniuses in every other area, sure once you actually learn to multy task in defferent tempo's with each of your limbs it's amazingly easy but also most people don't that patience and buy a drum machiene (me spelling is horrible I'm sorry) this applies at least to complex beats that I bet every genre has or at least ones that use the high hat and snar at different tempos than the bass

as for worst instrument there's a couple of things to consider,
I believe the piano and sitar are HELL to tune

the giutar is easy to pick up but to become TALENTED at it it takes alot of time and patience, not to mention perserveirance

like I said above the drumset for most people is really hard to pick up but easy to get better at once you get the general hang of it

I'll make a exeption for those GIANT bass drums, when you make one peice HUGE and take away the rest of the set it just seems ridiculiosly simple

the ukelele has it's strings in some messed up order (and is almost exlusive for playing cords)

but I guess every instrument has it's pros and cons

the worst instrument thatI have ever heard woulf have to be putting to spoons together and slapping them on your thigh

It really is incredibly easy to play drums or percussion, yes.

It's pretty tricky, though, to play them *well*.

And no, it's not the player or their mum who decides if they play well.

(Also, to the OP, the piano isn't a string instrument, it's technically a percussion instrument. And to the person who said a glockenspiel is basically a xylophone, no it's not. Glockenspielen are made with metal bars, while xylophones use wood - the name derives from the Greek for 'wood' - and have a completely different sound.)

As for the vibraslap, it has its uses, but it is as someone rightly said an instrument with a very limited remit.

Do I wanna hear you play your what? I've never really known quite what to make of this one. A Swedish instrument called "Nyckelharpa" or "Keyharp" I suppose.

First one is just wrong.

The recorder! I remember playing those things in grade school. Let me give you a picture: It was a quiet tuesday morning, my class filed into music class, recorders in hand, excited about the prospect of producing music. Each and every one of us raised our recorders to our mouths, and then: We all made noise similar to a cat being hit with a hockey stick while trapped in a box made of tin. Recorders suck.
My brother's going to learn the recorder this school year. I guess I'll just have to turn up the amp for my guitar, or suffer the consequences.

Anyway, none really. They all take SOME skill to learn, even if it is very, very, little.

All art is useless? You have no idea how Narrow mined you sound when you say that.

In answer to the OP; I'd say The Theremin

Dumb, but still pretty awesome though.

Bwahaha, I hate the recorder so much!
It's such a cheap, BS instrument. I mean, at least kids can learn to sight read music with it, but to actually make 'music' with that plastic mold of Satan's crap? Augh! Just awful. And hearing my sisters practice was enough for me to hide that thing away forever.
No, I have no idea where that thing I hate has gone.

Have you ever heard a good Bass Player play a solo? My dad is the best bass player I've ever heard and had a 6 string for a bit (he sold it once he went though money trouble) and it was the best thing I've ever seen. Go on youtube and find a 6 string bass solo.

Trombone is the second best instrument. (After guitar) I've played it for going on 4 years and everyone in my school band would want to move the slide. Plus the bonus of immature boner jokes.

Hurray trombone, an instrument that definitely isn't dumb. I play it.

1. 6 String Bass Guitar. If you want a 6 string guitar then just buy a regular guitar, and no instrument needs a neck thicker than a Buick.

A) six string guitars have different tuning (B,E,A,D,G,C)
B) It's all an octave lower
C) I'd hate to hear slap electric guitar
D) It sounds different.

Shows what you know. Nobody disses my bass.
