That may well be dumb, but you can't fault the man for his ingenuity.

Personally, I can't stand multiple neck guitars.

Well, some clarification. I own a Double-Neck Guitar, and play it using a Digital Delay pedal, so I play a riff on one neck, loop it, and play over it on the second neck, but that's really cumbersome and not as fun as just playing a normal guitar. However, then you get some really stupid guitar designs, like this:

The triangle, it just goes DING...how hard can that be to play?
Trust me, you haven't seen someone try to play the triangle...I have. And Kpt. Rob, you're probably better than any percussion player I know. Every band rehearsal I have, half of it is trying to get the percussion section to play their notes in the right time and at the right volume.

On topic.

The piano isn't dumb, it may be heavy and expensive, but at least there's a way to play it without being absolutely amazing at it or absolutely horrible, like the harp. And, being the instrument with pretty much the largest pitch range, it is definitely not a dumb instrument(spell it right).
The tambourine is nothing like a maraca, except that you shake it, or you hit it with a stick. BUT it's still pretty stupid, it almost never has any use in a piece of music. If it does, you can never hear it.

Hurray trombone, an instrument that definitely isn't dumb. I play it.
Trombone was so much fun to play and is a unique instrument...
I'm going to learn how to play the guitar as well...

the giutar is easy to pick up but to become TALENTED at it it takes alot of time and patience, not to mention perserveirance
Actually, no.
Talent, by definition, comes naturally, and the amount varies from person to person. You are thinking of skill--and, in any case, isn't playing really fast the only "skill" guitarists need nowadays?

Oh, yeah, it is. That's why I quit.
skill is required in order to utilise talent, in fact, the bigger the talent the more skill is required to get the most out of it. Quit before you accquire any type of skill and you'll never know if you have talent.

Yeah, but have you ever heard that solo in "Spoonman"? No, not the guitar one, the one that's actually cool. It kicked more ass than you and your guitar ever could.

Me and a friend had a convo about this today, she was saying how she cannot play the piano, but used to do the chello, i promptly took the piss out off the chello in general as it is oversized and pretty much useless.
Apocalyptica would like a word with you.
Dammit... thought the exact same things when I read those... the Spoonman solo is truly epic, and while spoons might not seem glorious, they're actually one of the more awesome simple percussion instruments... especially for being just a pair of silverware.

My "stupidest instrument" of choice goes to...

The Washboard or the Tub Bass.

Not used much in today's music, but the former is just running ... something up and down a ribbed metal surface, and the later is not only near impossible to play, but it sounds like crap to boot.

Here's a picture of the Tub Bass

The electric triangle. All you can hear is a buzzing sound coupled with someone's screaming.

Okay, seriously, the rainstick. It's not really got many uses.

sir I hate to break it to you but.................your a talented musician 90% of people that I know who exist
What about people you know who don't exist? Are all those voices in your head laughing at your lack of rhythm?

most of those people are geniuses in every other area
Compared to you, anybody's a genius.

And that's how skills work. Not everybody can be good at everything. Just because someone might be able to play clarinet doesn't mean he'll be able to sing, for example.

sure once you actually learn to multy task in defferent tempo's with each of your limbs it's amazingly easy
So, in other words, it's no different from any other instrument that requires you to use more than one hand?

the giutar is easy to pick up but to become TALENTED at it it takes alot of time and patience, not to mention perserveirance

Oh, yeah, it is. That's why I quit.

like I said above the drumset for most people is really hard to pick up but easy to get better at once you get the general hang of it
Just because you and your kvlt friends can't play drums doesn't mean it's a hard instrument.

the ukelele has it's strings in some messed up order (and is almost exlusive for playing cords)
Bashing chords, eh? Wow, how perfectly becoming of a self-proclaimed guitarist!

well then sir, what is your idea of a good instrument and what qualifys to you to be a good musician?
and if you must know the voices in my head do insult my rythim as well as tell me to kill my freinds, but I don't listen to that ether

The soprano saxophone. It looks like a weird clarinet, it has the same fingerings as a saxohpone and it sounds like a dying animal that's inhaled too much helium.

I've seen lots of dumb instruments. Not just in how they play or look but what they are made of. The piano is a string instrument with keys, I mean who thought of that, it's a massive instrument, it weighs a ton, and it's expensive. It's just the worlds most cumbersome harp with a different interface. How does one began to invent an instrument like that? It's just plain stupid. Don't even get me started on the tambourine. You can't even really play the dumb thing it's just a funny maraca, and the triangle, really? Their are so many dumb instruments it's ridiculous. Which instrument do you think is the dumbest and why.
Instruments are used to create music. Music is art. All art is quite useless, and meant only to be enjoyed.

Ergo, you're the dumbest instrument here. I'd go so far as to call you a tool, except you pretty clearly serve no purpose.
I didn't mean the piano its self is dumb in design, but the creation of it. How do you think an artist thinks up an invention like that? Sure the music is wonderful, but where would you ever get an idea like that. It stretches the boundary's of fantasy. What's with all the anger?

The kazoo.
If you can play the kazoo, you can sing. And no matter how bad you are, you sound better.

Sir, I'm afraid I'll have to meet you outside. Pistols at ten paces.

And only people with really shitty technique get wrist problems.

Oh god, my friend plays the soprano sax every time he brings it over to jam with I say I broke my only reed. I just can't stand their sound. If your going to play a Saxophone either play Alto, Tenor, or Baritone. (Alto Saxophone player btw.)

Also the recorder, worst days of my life where with a recorder in hand.

Exactley, I play Tenor sax(sounds the best of the three in my opinion). There's only one person I know that plays Soprano sax, and she unfortunatley goes to my school. Another one is the oboe. It sounds like a dying duck, it's oddly expensive...and no one cares about it.

I'm surprised - but quite pleased - that nobody's mentioned the theremin yet... ;-)

Anyway, there's no such thing as a dumb instrument - there are misused instruments, but every instrument has some form of music it's suited for.

Well, except the guitar a guy used to bring to a blues jam I attend. I never heard that guitar sound good.

Or maybe that was the player...
