E3 2010: Nintendo Formally Reveals Its 3DS, Kid Icarus

Oh Nintendo when will you do away with the terrible gimmicks and just focus on quality games.

Are you kidding me? Discarding the 3D aspect, it's a portable Wii! Plus the line-up of games (MGS, Resi Evil, Street Fighter, Kingdom Hearts etc.) and Kid f*cking Icarus means that they not only focused on quality games, but what they and the rest of the industry considers innovation as well. If this "gimmick" is anything like the Wii, it'll sell millions and be hugely successful.

You should have just watched the keynote, trust me you wouldn't have said that if you did.

I loved Kid's opening line from the video, freakin' brilliant.
Though I find it hard to believe that all of the gameplay was on a handheld...
What kind of a battery does the 3DS have?!

I love that they kept the Art Style that was used in Brawl.
Its Beautiful.
And the game play looks like a tweaked out Sin and Punishment with some Star Fox thrown in for good measure.
I cant wait.

Im hoping for a Darkstalkers from Capcom and some goodies from Atlus.

Oh and guys who hate 3d or have sight problems, you can toggle how much 3d you want at any time or turn it off entirely.

But then they wouldn't be able to complain at Nintendo's near flawless event. And this being the internet, everyone must complain about something!

OT:I can't see any visual diffrence it's like they stuck a diffrent brand on to a exsisting product and are re-selling it. Oh wait the analog stick.

It's a code name, it is actually the next generation handheld, not a DS revision.. AND it offically as powerful as a gamecube, but if rumors are to be believed it's almost as powerful as current gen consoles, personally Imma say it'll end up being more powerful than the PSP at least. We shall see

So the name is a lie and the picture is a lie, but if its as powerful as a gamecube. I may raise my eyebrow. Isn't the PSP at the level of a Ps2 so wouldn't it be stronger anyway if its at the level of a gamecube.

The name is a CODENAME, much the same as Project Natal, Nintendo have been saying the 3ds is a code name all the while people've known about it's existance, and the design is nice, why change it drastically from the DS? As for the PSP thing I always thought the cube was less powerful, but whatever which ever one's more powerful it's stronger than that most likely.

So it's like the next DS like how 360 was the next xbox or the ps2 was the next playstaion. Still the picture gave me the impresion that it was a revision i mean it does essential look the same as the old ones. So will it have it's own name then like Nintendo handheld 3DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

Despite the fact that Kid Icarus really didn't look anything like the original Kid Icarus games, this was easily the most appealing section of the conference to me. The 3DS, even with as little as they've been able to show of it so far, sounds like it's going to be a great purchase.. whenever the heck it comes out.

I am extremely Jealous all of you at the conference got a 1 on 1 with very lovely looking ladies.....goddamn it

other things i noticed
- Miyamoto fails at gaming XD
- That wireless can someone interfere with the wii
- Nintendo should be called "The gaming recycler"

but what i find funny is how the heck that 3D is gonna work on a 3.5 INCH SCREEN....its not a laptop for god sakes

No. elvor0 is incorrect.
The name is the Nintendo 3DS, the picture is accurate, but obviously it's unable to show on a 2D format the method by which the 3D screen works. What the picture above isn't showing you is that it also has two camera lenses on the outside, so that you can take 3D pictures. The top screen is a 3.5" widescreen 3D screen that doesn't need glasses, the bottom is a touchscreen.

Besides, what different did you want to see? If the UI works, why the hell would you screw it up?

Yeah, that would be a major selling point for me, as I have to wear extremely thick glasses to even read anything more than a few feet away from me, and if I can't see the 3D than it's really just another DS.

OT: Well, I'm good with Pit in brawl, but I'm not really excited that much about this.

Seriously though, This new handheld seem radically different to me than the DS's launch. That game lineup screams non-casual gamer. And its got a nice engine under that deceptive hood. This is NOT Yo Momma's DS, that is for sure.

Props to Nintendo, somehow they came out as catering to us more than either of the others.

You guys do know that you can turn the 3D effect down/off, right? It's not a gameplay gimmick, it's just there to add increased depth to the visual field.

Otherwise, what we have here is just a significantly more powerful DS. Which is not a bad thing at all.
