I thought Bungie wanted to wrap up the series with Reach and didn't want any more Halo games being made.
As it has been said countless times in this thread and besides it is common knowledge: Bungie isn't doing it, they sold the rights over to 343 Industries, which is a development studio made by Microsoft to create more Halo games.

The only upside to this is that Roosterteeth has, once again, found a newer Halo models to work with...

Not saying that the Halo franchise is bad, but the Chief [to me] has overstayed his welcome.

I for one am happy about this. I want to see Cortana and Master Chief get back to Earth. Maybe Halo 4 will tie in with the books, and all the Spartans will finally be able to go home.

I guess only 6 or 7 different enemies isn't enough, but wow I have never counted Halo to be a game that didn't have weapon variety. If you count the two grenade types in Reach, there are 25 different weapons. Now if we look at the weapons that were added to Reach and also the ones that were taken away that had been in Halo 3, there were still 22 to 23 different weapons in Halo 3.

I'm not worried by weapon variety. I can't really think of many more weapons to add unless they just make slightly different types of the same kind weapon. Though I will say they better bring back the convenient sniper rifle from 3, because that sentinel-like beam sniper rifle from Reach is stupid. A sniper rifle is for shooting one shot for a head shot kill and that is that. I shouldn't have to sit and wait for it to keep firing a stream and hope that the enemy just sits and takes it in the head for the 10 seconds it takes for it to burrow through the shields and hit the head.

As for firefight, I think it is great. Why remove it? If you don't like it don't play that part of the game. It's not making you play it.
I didn't say "add more weapons to the pile because it is clearly lacking". I said i would like to see some variety. It simply means i don't want to have to be using that same assault rifle, shotgun, pistol from the original game. They've added something new with each iteration and i would like to see that built upon. Just because they have a large amount of armaments cumulatively throughout the series does not give them an excuse to make it a copy-paste job with future installments. Once again, my point was not "weapon variety sucks", but instead "i hope there IS variety". "Greater" variety does not mean "improvement over what minimal variety there is", it just means increasing the variety that we already have. No-one wants to play the same game with exactly the same weapons and exactly the same enemies. Even the Call of Duty series, for all its similarities within itself, try to make the effort to update the weapons.

Regarding firefight, again, i wasn't saying "I hope that gets taken away. That mode sucked." I simply said it wasn't for me and i wouldn't be sad if it was gone. For all we know, Microsoft might choose to not include it on release and sell it as DLC. That seems to be the model for most companies nowadays.

I really wish people wouldn't read into things with such aggression and reply defensively.

I am so sick of this "accidental" stuff.

Whoops we accidentaly revealed our new game a little early.
Whoops I accidentaly left the new iphone prototype at a bar.
Whoops a perfectly pristine press kit fell out of my pocket in central park, I sure hope nobody finds it!

To all the people saying "It's not Bungie, it won't be the same", 343 Industries is staffed by former Bungie employees. It's not like Microsoft is handing the franchise over to complete strangers. These are still some of the same people that handled the first games, including the Franchise Director.

I'm still optimistic about it. In no way would I be surprised if it showed what happened after Halo 3, but I just hope they'll do it in a satisfying way. It would be nice to tie up all the loose ends of the different endings, but at the same time . . . it's not an RPG. I know a lot of people just see the game in terms of "run, jump, shoot the purple things" but I really like the story surrounding the Halo universe. I think it's kind of a shame that they did put such a strong narrative behind it (even if Master Chief and most of the other main characters are flat as a grunt under the Scorpion's treads) when the rest of the game is shackled to the shooter gameplay.

It isn't Halo 4, It's Halo Combat Evolved remade as an anniversary.

EDIT: Okay, was wrong, there is ALSO a Halo 4 being made.

It's not Halo 4, it's a remastered version of Halo CE.

I for one think 343 should buck the hell up, and make a remastered version of Halo 3 for PC.

I really, really hate, when developers say they're done with a franchise or an IP and then they just announce a new game. It just shows their greed. I'm pretty sure we will be seeing a new God of War, too.
Bungie said they're done. Microsoft did not. Hence why Bungie relinquished all rights to the Halo franchise to Microsoft who handed the series over to 343 Industries who are owned by Microsoft. The more you know.

Part of me is excited for a new Halo game, since i do like the franchise and i've loved it all the way back from Halo 1 on the original xbox. I am however dubious of stagnation, like most drawn out franchises, and even more dubious about a new studio taking the reigns which is being overseen by a first party. I get the feeling a lot of concessions are going to be made.

What i would like to see in Halo 4 are a greater enemy and weapon variety. Not sure about returning the flood. Reach seemed to do just fine without them. I'd also like to stick with playing a human / spartan / marine and not have to play as the Arbiter or some other alien. Lastly, despite its popularity, i really do not care for firefight and won't be upset if it's omitted. Never really found the appeal of Horde type game modes.

What i'd really like to see is new IP. I get that investors want people to play it safe and work with what they know sells, but still. Far too many sequels coming out. Nearly everything seems to be ending with a 3, and the stuff that doesn't is shovelware.
Hopefully Bungie gets to do something new under Activision and not like Call of Duty in space :p or even a sequel or reboot of one of their really old games would still be fresh enough despite not a true new IP

But yes, I am definitely keeping my mind open to what 343 can/will be dishing out. They've proven to be respectful of the series and franchise so I don't see reason to not give them a chance (agree with more weapons and enemies, stick with being human characters...)

Accidents like that don't really matter ... but the fact that someone in their employ got it wrong is not shocking in the least.
