But it has the potential to be much much more. There could be stealth, there will probably be multiple ways to reach the objective, the story actually has something to it, even if it does fall to the standard gender roles. Like the article said, it sounds like someone made "The Road" into a game sans nuclear holocaust and changed the son to a daughter figure.Don Savik said:So you take a middle aged Nathan Drake protagonist and Ellen Page, and throw em in I Am Legend.
You know...I'm really not to thrilled because it doesn't sound as revolutionary as they make it out to be. Just seems like another third person shooter with probably cover and infected critters. Oh and bandits. Lots of filler bandits to kill to reach your destination. Make it kinda sappy like I Am Alive tried to be and BAM its a game for the times.
Yaawwwwwnnnn. I know it sounds like it could be well made, but it also sounds rehashed from other popular/not so popular games/movies so its going to have to do something spectacular.
My problem with Ashley was the dumb ***** got snagged in cutscenes doing shit that I would have been able to keep her from doing if I was in control and the fact that she sounded like a cat in a tumble dryer screaming every time she got grabbed.lucky_sharm said:I really don't understand why Ashley was such a terrible NPC to escort for some people. Gameplay-wise she does everything you need her to: staying out of your line of fire. When you aim your gun, she moves behind you. If not, she ducks underneath your aim. She knew her place and didn't try to help you (Sheva was HORRIBLE by comparison), so the only inputs you needed to give her were hiding in a dumpster where nothing can touch her or holding her position presumably in a safe location.Fayathon said:Definitely interested in this game, have been since I saw the original trailer for it. I think the big breaker for it is if it turns out being like RE4 with our new protagonists reprising Leon and Ashley's roles. So far I'm seeing that as a worst case scenario, and since this is Naughty Dog we're talking about making this game I'm not too worried about that. I'm watching this one an hoping for a new spin on the biological apocalypse that doesn't tread the same path that everyone else seems to have done.
Escort missions obviously suck when handled poorly, but not all of them are.
OT: Anyways...so Ellie gets captured by bandits? What do they need a teenage girl for, anyway?
Welp, at least she'll let you know that she's being caught. It'd be annoying to be in the middle of a fight and then suddenly Leon drops to his knees and says "oh no" because Ashley got captured without you realizing it.Fayathon said:My problem with Ashley was the dumb ***** got snagged in cutscenes doing shit that I would have been able to keep her from doing if I was in control and the fact that she sounded like a cat in a tumble dryer screaming every time she got grabbed.lucky_sharm said:I really don't understand why Ashley was such a terrible NPC to escort for some people. Aaaaaaaaaaaand, still don't see the appeal. Survival? How about...they give you no weapons at all throughout the entirety of the game? That would be survival. Still wouldn't interest me.Abandon4093 said:Considering the emphasis the first trailer put on the scarce nature of ammunition, I think it'll be much more about avoiding danger than running through it guns blazing.Don Savik said:So you take a middle aged Nathan Drake protagonist and Ellen Page, and throw em in I Am Legend.

Atleast, that's what me and a lot of other people are banking on.
Aha, some actual game footage, very promising game footage at that. It actually looks like game play rather than the interactive trailers with scripted events like the Bioshock Infinite trailer, for instance. I wonder how CQC will work. Button mashing or some QTE? We'll see.Sexy Devil said:Well here's an actual gameplay video. The AI actually is pretty damn amazing. I don't think they could fake a sequence like this in a press conference.MelasZepheos said:Cautiously optimistic.
There's a lot of good here to like, and the setting of post-apocalpyse is one of my favourites.
The only negative I can see is partner AI. I don't trust it in any game, and a game built around two people working together could be ruined by one partner being a liability instead of a help.
But that's the only nitpick. Tone, characterisation, setting, graphics look very fine...
This could well be the game that convinces me to buy a PlayStation 3.
A young, attractive girl, in an apocalyptic scenario? Roll your mind in the gutter, they're appealing to their baser instincts would be my guess.lucky_sharm said:*snip*
Aside from that, seriously though, what purpose would capturing Ellie serve for your enemies? It's explained why your enemies need to capture Ashley in RE4, but in this game? I'm guessing ransom money? Not that there's much money flying around in an post-apocalyptic setting.
