Well of course it's better, it's a brand new console so it really should be. The question is whether it's so much better as to be worth buying an entire console for. And just being able to play the same games as something people already have but slightly better isn't really a convincing argument for shelling out several hundred dollars. Yes I know they haven't announced a price yet, but that doesn't make it effectively free until they do.

all the reports are flying in that the controller, while awkward looking, is actually incredibly comfortable. one argument debunked.
they have not announced a price yet. two arguments debunked.
the latest video shows SOME of the games being released in the FIRST year of the WiiU's release. WiiU obviously has TONS of third-party support. and there, you have NO arguments to stand on.

but then again, this IS the Escapist.

Oh yeah, thats totally sound reasoning "The Wii U has tonnes of third party support that they didn't show because my brain doesn't work". You don't have a single fucking shred to support that this won't be a gigantic failure.

Oh, and about the "using a gimmick totally makes the versions all better", Ps3 offering Move Support and 3d. The WiiU can't even win on gimmicks. It can't beat the Ps3 on power, it can't beat either on library, and it certainly isn't unique in offering a gimmick.

I'll just sort this into a nice, easy to navigate list:

1. so I'm comparable to a "birther" because I pointed out that you have NO actual argument to stand on? I never said it would be cheap. for all I know, it could be really fucking expensive. however, you made the argument that it IS expensive. I pointed out that that argument makes no sense. by your logic, you are comparable to Jack Thompson; you make wild accusations with no concrete proof or evidence.

2. let me reiterate; they showed SOME of the third-party games that would show up at the same time as the console. if you honestly think that the couple of third-party games they showed in the trailer is ALL the third-party support the WiiU's getting for it's entire lifespan, perhaps it is YOUR brain that doesn't work.

3. I actually DO have a single "shred" that this won't be a gigantic failure. in fact, I have several. first off, reactions from the showfloor have been nothing but positive. literally, NO negative comments. and this is the prototype mind you, we'll see the actual final product next year. next, it's a Nintendo console. it won't fail financially.

4. I never said that gimmicks made for a better game. I said that some extras make games more fun. and if your idea of a "good gimmick" (an oxymoron) is having to wear 3D glasses to play a game, then you have absolutely no grounds to judge any gimmick or extra or anything EVER.

5. it actually DOES beat the PS3 technically. actually RESEARCH this thing before you lead your little temper tantrum against it. watch the demonstration with the bird, rendered in real time, by a PROTOTYPE.

6. whether or not the WiiU beats the PS3 "on library" is purely subjective. I have both a Wii and a PS3. They both have some AMAZING games (LittleBigPlanet, Brawl, inFAMOUS, Mario Galaxy 2, etc.). so yeah, to quote The Dude, that's just like, your opinion, man.

7. it isn't unique in offering a gimmick? so the best console is the one with the best gimmick? ... whatever pal... whatever... I'll just be over here, playing games for things like "fun" and "good gameplay" and such...

I haven't really seen any previews that say the tech or the results are any better than the Ps3. Most say it looks "almost as good".

And you also have to remember that, what with Nintendos insistence on selling each console to make a profit, mixed with how the controllers will be more expensice and how its trying to mirror current power levels, its really pretty simple to figure out this thing will be more expensive thn the Ps3 or 360.

they showed this REALLY nice demo during the conference. it was like a bird flying through some cherry blossoms and such. idk, but it certainly looked at the very least, on-par with a very, VERY good-looking PS3 game.
as for the price... I dunno... Nintendo likes to play things cheap... like I saidm they're just not a ver "599 US dollars" kinda company... guess we'll all find out, in due time

nah I've just been playing them on my PC while I play Mario on my Wii.

OT: I think more and more games will be coming to launch as developers simply port Xbox 360/ PS3 games to the WiiU that were launching near it's launch time anyway.

To compare graphics the PS3 is not a good enough measure. Both the PS3 and the 360 are 6 years old, in terms of hardware they are both ancient and far behind modern processing chips and gpu's. I want some specs sheets for this new machine, I refuse to be impressed by mediocre comparisons.

Color Mii unimpressed. Granted I'm not a big fan of Nintendo first-party titles for the most part, but I can't see this taking the place of any of my current-gen consoles, Wii included.

All that was interesting about this was the skyward sword which I'm probably gonna buy a cheap used wii to play and then pretend this thing they are calling the new console doesn't exist. However it will be a great way to play all those carnival mini games.
