E3: Wii U Lineup Impresses

it'd be more impressive if it weren't all just catch up, but that's just me and I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade

as much as I'd like to find myself returning to childhood favorites as far as game franchises go (LoZ, Mario, etc.) idk if I'll have the money to get all the new games I'm wanting much less a new console x.X

What's powerful about this lineup? 90% of the games I can buy on my PS3 without needing a new console, and the gimmick of the new Mario is that I can use my Mii? Everything that the Wii-2 has at launch pales in comparison in terms of buyingincentive to an invisible smash bros. game that will likely not be released until around 2014. I'm really disappointed by this, actually. Skyward Sword, which looks awesome, is being released on the original Wii, too, even less incentive to buy it.

I think the mario game was just a demo, not an actual launch title. Still you're right, nintendo needs to announce some great first party launch titles to give any 'core' gamers a reason to pick it up at launch

I have no need for a new console that plays currnet gen titles...in fact, I'm against new consoles period at this point. I dislike having to spend $300-$400 for updated graphics and slightly better hardware.

Batman Arkham City was the 2nd biggest WTF moment I had this year. The first was the announcement of WiiU. What kind of name is that...?

Next gen will be the "Wii Ur" then the "Wii Uri" then the "Wii Urin" then "Wii Urine" and we find out Nintendo has been trolling us all these years and was just setting up another pee joke.


Or it could be made out of depleted uranium.

This is only "impressive" on Nintendo standards. The rest of us having PS3, 360 and gaming PC have played these kind of games for years now.

I'm laughing my ass off at fanboys who seem to think being more expensive, having less support and having an awkward controller makes something "hands-down BETTER".

Well of course it's better, it's a brand new console so it really should be. The question is whether it's so much better as to be worth buying an entire console for. And just being able to play the same games as something people already have but slightly better isn't really a convincing argument for shelling out several hundred dollars. Yes I know they haven't announced a price yet, but that doesn't make it effectively free until they do.

I haven't really seen any previews that say the tech or the results are any better than the Ps3. Most say it looks "almost as good".

And you also have to remember that, what with Nintendos insistence on selling each console to make a profit, mixed with how the controllers will be more expensice and how its trying to mirror current power levels, its really pretty simple to figure out this thing will be more expensive thn the Ps3 or 360.

they showed this REALLY nice demo during the conference. it was like a bird flying through some cherry blossoms and such. idk, but it certainly looked at the very least, on-par with a very, VERY good-looking PS3 game.
as for the price... I dunno... Nintendo likes to play things cheap... like I saidm they're just not a ver "599 US dollars" kinda company... guess we'll all find out, in due
time

According to a post I saw on reddit someone posted a list of specs for the the console that looked legit, and apparently Nintendo is planning to retail between 200-300 USD bit this could all be false.

huh, who knows... $300 sounds about right... it covers the systems, while still being somewhat low-price (as opposed to 599 US dollars).
but yeah, I see it going for around $300

Not really that good, since byt he time they launch they will already be out for other platforms... At least some of them, like Battlefield, which imo would be stupid to play with that thing.

How? It has 2 shoulder/trigger buttons, two analog stick-like devices, a d-pad and 4 face buttons, just like either of the other consoles. The only difference is the screen in the middle, and unless the developers of Battlefield 3 end up being massive idiots that won't be used for anything too vital to the game, just data displaying. Like an ammo counter or a map or objective displays or stuff like that.
