Alright Mister fanboy, seems someone has forgotten all the mud Activision has been slinging at BF3.

Also, Above and beyond the call is a pretty common phrase.
Got any way you could tell i'm a CoD fanboy in that post, and whats stopping me from saying that you are a battlefield fanboy because you defended what EA is doing? Seriously now, im not a fanboy for either games, im just saying that EA attacking CoD is uncalled for and I am quite annoyed (not butt hurt) by it.
Because you seem to ignore the fact that both are doing it as much as each other. EA is mocking CoD, Activision is mocking Battlefield, it's pretty childish on both fronts. I'm not defending EA, I'm just saying they are as bad as each other.
Give me two times that Activision has directly attacked CoD and Activision. Cos I can give you a LOT of times when EA or Dice has attacked them. Wanna see em?

I don't see what the big deal is since this is a popular marketing tactic, and it's pretty much every single commercial that compares themselves against their competitors.

EA's competitor is Activision so it would make perfect sense for them to do that, and if they didn't I would be a little suspicious of EA's marketing. So, nothing new and it's not EA being a bunch of dicks, just good 'ol business as usual marketing.

I suppose you've never heard, "Sega does what Nindon't"?
It's nothing new.
Besides, a lot of CoD's target market (read: 12 year olds)
probably does not know about BF3, and saying that BF3 is better than CoD might encourage them to find out more about the game and maybe buy it.

This kind of stuff has been going on for ages, look at Sega and Nintendo clashing heads once the Genesis came out. It's always funny to see multi billion dollar companies clashing heads like two 9 years olds in the school playground

Isn't Above and Beyond the Call of Duty of a pretty common saying? I'm pretty sure it was around before video games...

Anyways, I don't think it's childish. Anyone who is getting worked up over EA versus Activision really needs to rethink their life. Call of Duty will sell better. Battlefield will sell extremely well but not as good. Both games will be FPSs that will have different things going for them. It's comparing Apples to oranges at this point.

Now that Dead Space commercial was kinda childish...

EA has stupid marketing? Well I never! It amuses me, because Activision really don't give a fuck, and they're too busy rolling around in money to pay attention to it.

Having just saw the new tv spot for bf3, and having seen the new tagline. Which is "above and beyond the call", and obvious dig at CoD. Seriously EA and/or Dice, this is just starting to be you attacking the CoD series like a little kid, the tagline might as well say "buy bf3, because CoD is a pile of doody. Say What you want about CoD or Activision, when was the last time they purposefully attacked any game EA has made, and does Activision do already on disc DLC or online codes, no they dont.

Heres my source: http://kotaku.com/5843892/battlefield-3s-latest-tv-spot-goes-above-and-beyond-the-call

So Escapees, what do you think of this blatantly childish tagline?

[EDIT] Well, I admit it wasn't that childish, but its just the fact they used 99 problems as their song, and 99 problems to me is a terrible song. Also, if you were to look into it further you could say that the ***** is actually CoD, so they might be saying that CoD is not a problem to them. Or that's just me over thinking things
One

Not the first to attack another company to say they are better.

Two
To complain about a ad cause of the song they used is kinda stupid if you ask me (Also I like the song and I think Jay-Z is the only good rapper I hear on the radio at all.

Nah, I still think it was a joke at the players' expense; if you spend all your time playing Battlefield 3, you may wind up with 99 problems, but you won't have a girlfriend, so a "*****" won't be one.

And as I was pointing out so is the mac ads

Mac is seen as the hip cool new computer that everyone needs and if you use window you are a old boring guy who is on his way out. Which is stupid and it took root, talking to mac fans is so headache inducing with how much they think they know about machines when in general to compare it to a mac. A lot don't know they use a form of Unix on said mac and if you tell them a lot I meet go "No your lying and don't know anything about computers".

I blame the bf3 fans more than the advertising. You'll never see a more ridiculous bunch, spouting random hate for CoD with little to no reason.

I was going at ad's attacking the competition and the people who use it. Your joke went right over my head >_>. Re-reading it I find it funny though:D.

Oh come on that line was used in every cheesy American war movie, you are getting offended simply because you want to.

But I agree on the soundtrack, it's retarded.

Well why is Battlefield in competition with COD, because it's a very popular game and they want a piece of the pie, and the only really useful way to get that piece is by attacking the other game.
And because they are similar types of game and because both companies are in competition.

Of course one or even both are going to try some form of trash talk it happens all the time.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong but saying "they only attack it because it's popular" is hardly the best argument against it.

They are both competing for the same part of the gaming market ... the warfare FPS ... they will do anything they can to try and get more press for their particular product.

Love it or hate it EA did exactly the right thing and i'll tell you why .... it got people talking.

This thread is advertising Battlefield. All the threads across every forum about this is advertising Battlefield. You can't buy that kind of publicity. That one advertisement will do more in the next few days than a full marketing campaign because it gets people talking which in turn advertises that product.

It's not the 'moral' choice but they don't run off morals they run off sales which adds like that will bring in.

Love it or hate it but it works.

I don't see the big deal. This is no different than cell phone companies taking a stab at each other (which is just about every commercial), car companies comparing their car to other companies, and insurance companies claiming their company saves you more money than another.

I'd just the nature of marketing; Subway does it all the time, Coke and Pepsi are always taking shots at each other, and nobody usually gets bent out of shape about it because that's just how things work. I have absolutely no problem with someone in the marketing department coming up with the (somewhat) clever tagline of "above and beyond the call." I think it shows that they're behind their product. The phrase "call of duty" or "call to duty" as it's referred to by military recruitment videos, is somewhat cliche at the point so I think poking at that is fair game.

And I think you may be reading a little too much into the choice of the song, but that's ok, I do that a lot too. After watching it, my initial reaction was not that CoD may be the proverbial ***** to which the song is referring, but rather highlighting just how much shit is doing down in Battlefield 3. That's a lot of stuff to contend with in that trailer, and that's where I personally feel the song was going.

When taking on a giant like CoD, your marketing HAS to separate you from the game. It HAS to create buzz in some way. They're counting on this game being the one to topple CoD's stranglehold on the FPS market. I love aggressive advertising. I love the strategy EA is using to make sure people are talking about their game, and I love it because it's working.

But who knows, EA's marketing team could be as childish as you initially accused them to be. I don't think they are, but it's possible.

I'm sorry, but I'm with you, that was childish. C'mon like we don't know who the '*****' is. Gaddamnit that is friggin stupid. Personally, I don't have dog in this fight. I really don't care who's game is better, but seriously EA your company is supposed to be full of grown adults.

Again, this is similar to all the other stupid EA ads we've seen. They are produce an immature ad campaign to appeal the immature male gamer they seem to think is their target demographic. Adults see through this crap, but I think they know that. This is another violent game being intentionally marketed towards a demographic that shouldn't be playing anyway.

The very least they could have done is not unnecessarily remix one of the greatest rap songs ever.

Yeah, can't say I give a shit about either company. Activision lost me after running series like Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero into the ground, and that was before all the BS that CoD has causeed. EA, well, they lost me with their continued BS tactics surrounding their sports games. I HATE That EA publishes Bioware titles now, and I hope to god they don't start adding stupid shit to them as well.
Unless you don't count Miranda's arsenal they have already added shit to Bioware.

God, you guys are just too goddamn sensitive about this whole thing. The whole "stop degrading us!" "Stop being so childish!" "Nobody cares which game is better, they're both great!" is a load of bull, really.

Let them have at it for fuck's sake! I can't help but see this mudslinging and badmouthing as absolutely delightful. The consumer does not have unlimited money, these two franchises need to fight each other because at the end of the day only one of these games is going to be the record-breaker. It's McDonalds vs. Burger King, Coke v. Pepsi, Star Wars v. Star Trek, c'mon people!

I say it's high time for a piss-off contest, let them have at it and just say whatever shit they want to say. It's healthy to have a good mudslinging contest every once in a while.
