The machine gun in the second game would take off a leg in a single burst. I'd expect it would do the same here with that chaingun.kommando367 said:I like this. Now I just need to make a line gun with line mines and a ripper that shoots lightning instead of carrying 4 weapons around.
I'm not sure why there is a chain gun though. no limb cutting plus limited range really has little place in a game where enemies either have dismemberable limbs or weak points that require precision.

Well other than some improvement over controls I don't see the big difference between the 3 games; Also I don't understand how adding weapon customization makes it more like Gears Of War.Mr.K. said:Oh man the march of ignorance just made my day, EA is practically screaming "we are making Gears of Space guys!" at you and the comments "nope, obviously nothing changed..."

Sheesh, now you WANT the game to fail just because you have a grudge against EA. I guess when this game gets Metabombed by guys who haven't played I'll know you guys joined the unrelenting tidal wave of stupidity.Zachary Amaranth said:If it helps, they almost certainly won't. Really? What I get from most of these comments is "BWAH, Dead SPace ain't scary anymore, it never was, and now it's gears of space 3 instead". Jesus Christ, they improved on the upgrade system from the previous games, they didn't say "HERE TAKE THIS ROCKET-CHAIN-GUN NAOW THE LOCUST ARE COMIONGGDJHFGBASFBVDL". If you still want to use the plasma cutter, you're free to do so. If you wanna make a nail-gun with freezing effect that's fine too. Isaac is an engineer and knows what he's doing, if he gets the opportunity to engineer the shit out of some tools and make himself fancy new gadgets, then it makes sense.Mr.K. said:Oh man the march of ignorance just made my day, EA is practically screaming "we are making Gears of Space guys!" at you and the comments "nope, obviously nothing changed..."

I don't know how that would address sales figures, but I'd think if it's no different from the last game it probably won't meet 5 million in their arbitrary time window, considering the game sales to date for Dead Space 2 are about 2.5 million for all consoles worldwide. And that is a year and a half of sales, so I doubt they'll be all patient and stuff. It is, after all, EA.ChrisRedfield92 said:Well other than some improvement over controls I don't see the big difference between the 3 games; Also I don't understand how adding weapon customization makes it more like Gears Of War.
Who said I wanted it to fail? I was being practical. That number is completely unrealistic. Try addressing what I say before accusing me of stupidity.ChrisRedfield92 said:Sheesh, now you WANT the game to fail just because you have a grudge against EA. Wrong discussion, I was pointing out how adding weapon customization does not make it like Gears Of War, But since you brought it up, yes, 5 million sales is unreasonable, not surprising given how EA's stocks are heading straight to the planet's core.Zachary Amaranth said:I don't know how that would address sales figures, but I'd think if it's no different from the last game it probably won't meet 5 million in their arbitrary time window, considering the game sales to date for Dead Space 2 are about 2.5 million for all consoles worldwide. I used the rifle for a little while in DS1, it was probably the best weapon in the game for hitting weakpoints on Brutes and bossfights, but chainguns usually either have accuracy points knocked off or decreased movement speed for balance. Either 1 of those can make it a shitty gun for killing necros or killing humans at range.dogstile said:The machine gun in the second game would take off a leg in a single burst. I typo'd that as chainfun. I am ok with this.
This. I agree entirely. For me, dead space, even when on the hardest difficulty, was more of a fun action game rather than horror. And I mean ridiculously fun. Not including those innumerable little floor crawler... things, I counted 732 necromorph deaths throughout the first Dead Space. It is not horror.toomuchnothing said:No. I remember being able ignore ammo drops because I was carrying too much to begin with, wearing a suit that could monitor my health, supply me with breathable air in the vacuum of space as well as project a clear line towards my destination, having damn near perfect aim despite the player character having no firearms training and oh yea the ability to slow the passage of time of hostiles and environmental obstacles. Its hard to be scared from feeling vulnerable when your a walking space magic armory.Andy Chalk said:Remember back in those first moments of the original Dead Space, when you were struggling desperately to survive an onslaught of horrifying space zombies with nothing to protect yourself but a glorified flashlight?
I'm all for difficult survivor horror but I really think the first Dead Space has been put on some sort of horror icon pedestal it has no right to be on. You know how many times a body jumped up and caught me by surprise? Once, the first time I played the game. Oh dead body I didn't kill just sitting in the middle of an unavoidable hallway? Seems legit to me! Not like I'll preemptively shoot them from now on.
High art Dead Space was not.
OT: I like the idea of custom weapons. It could lead to some interesting combinations or at the very least let you create something that favors your play style more.
Because who cares about Dead Space's continuity, gameplay or theme? Gears of War is what sells in this day and age, so lets turn this franchise into that! No, lets turn every franchise into that!kajinking said:Wait...I thought that in the Deadspace universe the best weapon to beat the necromorphs was something to cut the limbs off and that most of the useful weapons were industrial tools. Why on earth are there now chainguns and fire bullets in a game where you're meant to be an engineer and not Master Chief?
