That is freaking an awesome idea lol .. like rick rolling people in RL is way more edgy :)

It is one thing to mislink a video .. it is another to make a crate, put a music box in it.. deep in it.. with a hammer...and goggles (the lawyers made us put that in there)

Bravo.. but the note was a bit much .. it would have been a good note except the go to hell part ;/ but oh well, they get props for their effort in my book :)

As much as I usually hate EA, and believe that this was extremely heavy-handed, that is made of so much concentrated epic win that I can't help but laugh. xD

They actually picked a target that made sense, too, as we are all well aware of Mr. Croshaw's tendency to spew caustic bile over games.

Okay, I still could care less about the game, but I have to had it to them for an impressively unique marketing strategy. Actually, EA runs the distinct risk of the marketing being more memorable than the game itself, which would be embarrassing to say the least...

Man, I feel bad for not reading this earlier, It's freaking hilarious!! Plus the fact that it became apparent when the song began what the goggles and hammer were for. n.n. Make sure the song died a horrible death, Yahtzee!

EA Rickrolls Yahtzee

Yahtzee was pretty angry at the package that EA sent him today, but don't worry - that was the whole point.

It seemed pretty obvious that the wooden box addressed to Yahtzee had something to do with Dante's Inferno, given that the inside of the lid read "The Fifth Circle of Hell Is Close." Members of The Escapist staff crowded around the box, eager to find out what was inside. We were somewhat bemused to discover nothing but a small burlap bundle containing safety goggles and a ball peen hammer.

Then the music began, and it all became horrifically clear.

"Never Gonna Give You Up..."

We all got a good chuckle as we realized that EA had just managed to Rickroll Yahtzee through the mail, but our laughter quickly died out when we discovered that closing the box didn't shut off the song. Yahtzee looked at us, then at the box, then at the hammer in his hand.

And then he got to work.

Strapping on the goggles (he is nothing if not conscientious about safety), he set about smashing the box. He had to break through three layers of wood, bones, and insects, but he finally got to the sound box's guts and yanked out one of the batteries. He also found a small scroll that had been tucked into the musical workings, which read:

The sin of wrath is yours. You have succumbed to anger and opened an infernal spring that seethes with dark waters. Quelled not, your anger begot rage. The waters have risen unchecked and ye will be drowned in stinking mire.

Go to Hell.

Ok, so the note is a bit heavy-handed, but I'm still giving this round of Dante's Inferno publicity a thumbs up for overall creativity and cleverness. Besides, it's not every day you get to see Yahtzee smash something to bits with a hammer.

Since EA doesn't make their own games, just as waiters and waitresses don't make your food, I usually don't care about the company, just the games and upcoming games made by the same studio.

This however was brilliant. I'm definitely curious about the level of creativity in Dante's Inferno, but I haven't pre-ordered a game in 10 years. Nothing EA does will convince me to pay for a game that no one outside the company has ever played.

My philosophy: Reviews first, price cut second, purchase third.

Oh wow. That is awesome. Thumbs-up EA, but you DO know Yahtzee is gonna use this against you when he reviews Dante's Inferno right?
Yahtzee loved Tim Schafer, didn't stop him from disliking Brutal Legend. Yeah he'll bring it up, but won't make it a reason not to buy it.

so... Yahtzee isn't allowed to open mail without a rolling camera from now on right? I mean, that sounded like it was pure gold... but if I wanna see something kinda like it, I could set up my brother the same way, he kinda looks like Yahtzee, just 6'2".

Am I the only one who didn't find this funny. Rickrolling has been dead for a year now. it was creative what EA did but they are one year too late. Perhaps if they had done it before the 2008 Macy's day parade this would have been funny. I'm happy Yahtzee took the hammer to it, best way for it.
The Rickrolling wasn't the main point. That was just for inciting rage.

Haha. Epic publicity stunt. :) I love it. And now I really want that game. So, mission accomplished EA.
