Oh yeah, the Superfriends I vaguely remember that one from way back.MovieBob said:The Justice League is the best known superhero team by far; it's just that the NAME they're "best known" by isn't The Justice League - it's The Superfriends
Maybe it's my local situation. The JLA cartoon never aired in The Netherlands (so they aren't on tv for anyone slightly younger than me and beyond), I had to download that thing (Superfriends did though, see above). But I really think the difference between the US and Europe is massive when it comes to these things. You people mostly don't know who Asterix is (as evidenced by Stuttering Craig in a short on an Asterix game in a horrible way at one point), whereas everybody does over here and I do mean everybody.
Even among my rather geeky friends the name Wonder Woman makes most go "who was that again?" Most have trouble keeping the DC and Marvel characters apart. Every random passer-by on the street has some vague notion of what the X-Men are though.
But apart from my local situation I must really stress that Superhero comics are a uniquely American invention, a point which Bob missed completely back in that episode where he defended Superman walking around in the US flag by posing that every country probably has a character like that. They don't. They really don't. Unless you count Asterix, Bryant the Brigand (horribly translated name) and a couple more like those. The cultural difference in outlook on comics is extremely big. Holland's most persisting comic series is Jan, Jans en de Kinderen, we're talking about a family comic that rose to prominence from the back page of a women's lifestyle magazine. Can you imagine that in the US?
And as an aside:
Loki looks rather snarky as he is escorted past the heroes. Looks like he gets arrested half way through the movie and they probably need him to solve a bigger problem.
