Rage levels... RISING!!!

I say we do the same with this Tim Langdell as "we" did with Jack Thompson, get his ass disbarred!

His entire business practice puts The Bar the shame, he should be thrown out on the streets and at his age, with this economic climate and with no useful skill he will likely be forced to live a paupers life working in some low paying blue collar job to die poor, old and alone.

A fitting fate for someone who clearly abuses the legal system to leach off the creativity and productivity of others.

We need to make an example of this guy, going after indy developers is the lowest of the low, we need to send a message that you can't get away with this shyster litigation, we aren't going to roll over like other industries and take it up the butt.

So I propose the petition:

DISBAR TIM LANGDELL!!

(It shouldn't be hard, just check out the wikipedia page of Langdell's company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EDGE_Games) it is a veritable smorgasbord of frivolous litigation)

Hey, hey, let's stop wishing physical harm on the guy, ok? Karma, people, karma.
It's really hard not to. you're right in the end though.. other cheek and all that jazz, but you know that when you first heard of this guys antics (before we even fathomed that someone this vile could even exist no doubt), you thought briefly of putting him into a shrinking box that wouldn't stop shrinking. ever.

that's basically all I have to say about this guy. Part of me wants to crush him into a singularity.. but Susan's right.

I just hope that Chaos gets something done about him. People like this guy are worse for gaming then even a bar certified jack thompson.

Thus he qualifies as "lawful evil" on the D&D 3.5 scale of alignment, and the only way to deal with these people is to permanently end their access to law, people, and money. And we know just kicking them out of their position won't work because that's how they find ways of revenge.
Geek-ghasm!

But I totally agree. You can shoot at evil, you can blow it up *cough*Hitler-assassination-bomb-plot*cough* and that will not flap lawful evil. (get that, NO physical threats against him!)

The only thing lawful evil truly fears... is to lose it's power. Power is the only thing it loves.

Take away this man's company and right to practice law... that will cut deeper than anything else.

But how...

For the sake of Indie gaming, We Must Prevail!

There is only one solution.

Sue him out of existence.

Monopoly, restraint of trade, harassment, whatever. Someone like EA needs to go after him, and get a settlement so large that he'll never have money to pursue litigation again.

Then they need to make a game called "Edge of Edges."

The law says you can't patent a word, phrase, or name you didn't invent. so why is he able to?

He really isn't, but he only targets people who can't fight back.

I'm a big fan of EDGE Magazine - it's my print complement to Escapist Magazine. In fact, when Escapist originally launched I was like "Holy crap, it's EDGE Magazine quality, online for free. Only they don't do reviews or job stuff."

Thus, the first thing I noticed before the "MIRRORS a game by EDGE" advert on his site, was the fact that the two logos - EDGE Gaming and EDGE Magazine - are practically identical!!

EDGE Magazine:

EDGE Gaming:

(sorry, couldn't find an alternate image than the one in the article).

This is beyond hypocrisy, this is outright Registered Trademark theft.

What a fuckwit.

And now hes sold at least a couple thousand copies of the game at least, as soon as its back online - heck, I want to buy a copy and I don't _own_ an iPhone - not to mention ensured that noone who ever hears of him will ever purchase anything from "Edgy Gaming", should they ever get it together enough to produce something.

Not that you want to let the fuckwits win, but whats to stop Mobigame from filing for a trademark of their own on... say... EDJ, doing a quick search-and-replace, changing a few graphics, and sending it back to Apple? If douchebag-features pipes up again you can show the paperwork for a prior claim to the name. Not to mention the good press for Apple if they stomp on him / bad press if they let him get away with this; anyone tried a letterbomb campaign on Apple?

It's always ugly when someone who's supposed to be helping people turns out to be an ass. Higher position just makes the whole thing terrible. Who would want to touch IGDA or anything else he worked on now?

edit: Come to think of it, wasn't there a bit similar quality of life scandal with an IGDA board member in the middle some months ago?

The guys who made "Edge" were a bit... too professional. If I got a letter from this Tim guy, I would have sent a reply saying only this:

"Go fuck yourself.

See you in court!"

Tim is the Bill Gates of gaming. "What's that? A small company I can exploit? BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED, I AM CORPORAL LAWSUIT!"

I think this guy may be worse than Jack Thompson because there's the remote possibility that Thompson actually believes what he's doing is the right thing. This guy most likely knows he's exploiting the system for his own financial gain, and that conscious knowledge somehow makes his endeavors more egregious to me.
I agree. It';s the difference between woefully misguided and relentlessly predatory.
