I understand keeping violent or obscene materials out of the hands of children. Good concept, works fine with movies.
But like movies, why aren't games given a progressive and universal scale. PG, PG-13, R, etc. Oh wait, they DO have a scale like that for video games. Why not use it? We could even adjust the higher-end ratings to match the movie industry. I've never been a big fan of the "Mature" label anyway. Since when is R-rated cinema expected to be "Mature." Swap out M for R in the video game scale and presto, you've got a winner. Familiar and universal
If a store is allowed to sell Rated R movies (or the equivalent rating up in BC) than I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to sell violent or obscene games.
