EA owns Bioware, therefore I see no problem with this. Plus DICE can pump out Battlefront 3 and it will likely be awesome.
I keep hearing this, and to counter it, I have only two words:INeedAName said:Out of all the publishers/developers, Disney...
My point is simply that I don't know why people are rushing for the torches and pichforks when at this point I don't think EA could possibly do any worse than Lucasarts.Atmos Duality said:I knew LucasArts wasn't going to, and there's no reason to suspect that EA is going to change that.major_chaos said:And after all the years of disregarding everything the fans wanted, you really think Lucasarts was going to?

And my point is that they can't do any better either, at least, not for the kind of game I'd actually give a damn about.major_chaos said:My point is simply that I don't know why people are rushing for the torches and pichforks when at this point I don't think EA could possibly do any worse than Lucasarts.
Well, core difference is that Lucasarts might've made or published some mediocre to poor games in their waning years, although you still had some good stuff every once in a while, they never had exploitative DLC schemes, crippling DRM, or distribution platforms that double as intrusive DRM systems that scan all the content on your PC whether you like it or not.major_chaos said:My point is simply that I don't know why people are rushing for the torches and pichforks when at this point I don't think EA could possibly do any worse than Lucasarts.
My guess is EA paid them a decent chunk of money for those rights. Odds are decent that this deal is going to bite EA on the ass more than Disney. As again, I'm assuming Disney got paid a lot for those rights and probably a decent percentage on each game with none of the risks. Its not like the Star Wars game brand can get any more tarnished. Star Wars fans are going to buy it no matter what, the rest of us are going to wait and see. If EA produces nothing but turds, it won't really change much reputation wise.008Zulu said:Doesn't Disney know how much people hate EA right now?
They also know that EA knows how to make games that sell millions and are mostly well reviewed (emphasis on "mostly" for the people still on the SimCity hatewagon). As loud as forum goers get about the tyranny of EA, the data tells a very different story.008Zulu said:Doesn't Disney know how much people hate EA right now?
Oh we are doing this again aren't we.Pedro The Hutt said:they never had exploitative DLC schemes
Yep, we are.crippling DRM,
I know, I hate Steam too... oh wait, are you talking about Origin? well its a good thing it doesn't actually do that and never has. Nice outdated scaremongering though.or distribution platforms that double as intrusive DRM systems that scan all the content on your PC whether you like it or not.
The monopoly is threatened, panic! only the mighty Valvelords are allowed to have exclusives! So I think some people are more worried about things like the inability to ever buy a new Star Wars game on Steam
Well its a good thing EA has never done that either. Either that or you and me have very different definitions of "the full story".or being forced to buy a ?60 game and then having to pay up at least another ?20 worth of DLC just to see the full story
My knee jerk reaction is based off precisely that though; the franchises I love, and how the EA brands will likely ruin them.Reyalsfeihc said:Wow, glad to see no one is throwing about any knee-jerk reactions here. Yes, EA has pulled some stupid s*** in the past couple of years, but let's think about the studios that they're handing the franchise off to, and what games will be handled by them.
So long as they don't try to turn it into a modern style shooter, its fine. If they make it like BF3, I'm out. BF3 was just an utter clusterfuck at the best of times. The maps were poorly designed, you died way too fast [4 Bullets to die for most guns, which fired 10 bullets a second. Yeah, loving the odds], Dislike the reducing accuracy as you keep firing being to such a stupid extent, and the fact that it all but forces you to use iron sights for anything but near-point-blank shootouts. Jets were also a disappointment for me. Terribly balanced [Why they didn't have flares right from the start is beyond me. An unlock that you have to get, whilst every other plane in the sky has heat seeking missiles and you have no way to shake them. Some genius thought of that...], and whilst I guess they probably controlled like a Jet I want nothing like them in Battlefront. The constantly shaking camera made it a pain to aim the guns, and without a flightstick it was difficult to fly one well. The great thing about Battlefront space battles was that you could grab a ship and fly it fine on your first flight as the controls were simple, and advanced manoeuvres were tied to a button combination, rather than having you try and fail to perform them yourself. Additionally, less focus on the vehicles. In Battlefront the vehicles were almost more support for the infantry that the main force of your attack. Every class could take out a tank, though it might take a while, whilst in BF3 if you weren't an engineer or support, you were fucked against a tank, and even as an engineer/support you had to rely on the tank driver being stupid + not having 3 engineers constantly repairing him in order to take one out. Less focus on the vehicles, more on the infantry combat. We have DICE, which is the obvious contender to develop Battlefront 3. As someone who absolutely loved the early BF games, and Battlefield 3, I'm not too concerned about them getting their hands on the Battlefront IP. We're not going to see a super gritty, color drained Battlefront game, as Battlefield is that way simply because it's stylized, and that's the direction they're taking it in. There's a lot to learn from the style and color pallets of Battlefront 1 & 2, and I'm sure that DICE will realize this when/if they begin development. Also, they would be the most likely of the three studios to develop sequels to Republic Commando.
Yeah, I don't have a lot of faith in Bioware on this one. KotOR was their Starwars chip, and they threw it away with TOR. They could theoretically make a KotOR 3, but I'd probably prefer Obsidian do it, and get it properly finished this time...Bioware is arguably the most confusing of the three in terms of where their projects will take them. We'll probably see some KoToR-esque sequels to past franchises out of them, alongside continued development of The Old Republic until they run that into the ground. I'm unsure what new IP's will come out of their studios, as all I've ever known them for is Action-RPG's, but they definitely have the talent (at least outside of the writing department), to develop various types of titles.
I agree on waiting till the final product to give final judgement, but in my eyes this does not bode well.TL;DR: Let's put those torches and pitchforks on layaway until we see some actual product.

Well, since it's effectively Dillbert management and they're all a bunch of business buffoons, this means that you get a Catbert with a whipping light saber and a force lightning storm. Things could get brutal.Atmos Duality said:*snickers* So all that remains is to wait for the cycle of internal conflict and assassination-succession to begin?FalloutJack said:Clearly, they have embraced the dark side in full and are no longer playing around.
I guess the Mickey Mouse Mafia is finally going to have some competition from the inside at least.
