Hmm. Similar names. Similar faces. Both have hair. I guess Naughty Dog wanted her to appear in the game, but didn't get around to asking?

"Hey, wasn't their something we were supposed to do last week?"
"I don't think so. Oh look, Ellen Page just signed on for that Beyond Two Souls game."
"Oh fu..."
That's what I thought too. Seems more like Quantic Dream got to her first and Naughty Dog were just sitting around with a bunch of concept art and models and went "Crap, we have to change this now..."

You should post color pictures on this kind of thread, OP... black and white is kind of purposely biasing the opinions, IMO...

Sure they look similar, but come on, it's not as if Ellen Page is the only short girl with brown hair in existence.

I'd be more pissed off at David Cage and his weird, Uncanny Valley shit TBH

I mean look at her, she's catatonic!
Man, looks at all those resolutions.

And as we know, resolutions and pixels = emotions.

So many emotions.
So many emotions and yet I can see NONE.

And yeah, Ellie pretty much is Ellen Page. Not the real person of course but clearly based of some of Page's old characters.

Talking about Naughty Dog, I think a lot of people thought that Nathan Drake was acted by Nathan Fillion back when the first Uncharted came out. No lawsuit or anything, but it may have been a deliberate near-likeness.

Also, Naomi Watts could have totally had a case against the creators of Deadly Premonition :)

She's not?! Damn, well I guess she might have something if she decides to sue.

Really, so computer game woman actually looks like another living woman? Wow, called me very unsurprised. Similarities happened all the time, like Lara Croft and Angelina Jolie. Maybe they should sue Ellen for defamination of character. :) lol

She apparently actually gets a lot of people mistaking her for Ellie and asking her about the role which she actually had no part in. While it looks like a younger, more cartoonish Ellen, the resemblance is there, both in behaviour, mannerisms, and looks. Calling her Ellie wasn't exactly a subtle coincidence either I'd wager.

They're both white little jail-bait characters, doesn't make it a rip off. Next we'll see lady gaga claiming that she looks like something from bioshock infinite.

Who is Ellen paige? And im being serious i have never heard her name before, never seen a film shes in, atleast none where she was impactful enough to make me look up her name.

Though i have seen her face thousands of times because she looks like a brown-haired, young faced woman, so like a fair portion of the worlds women.
She got famous for being in a movie that encouraged teen pregnancy. Though she did Super which was really funny.

Guess we all gotta start off in crap sometimes.

I think the similarities are a little too close to be coincidental. Christ, the actress doing the voice for Ellie even sounds like Ellen Page. It's not like this would be the first time Naughty Dog has been accused of ripping off material from other sources.

BTW people, what's with all the hate directed at Ellen Page over this controversy? She has reacted reasonably and isn't threatening to sue anyone, so maybe you drooling Naughty Dog fanboys should pop a Valium and relax.

Fucking fanboys, the bane of my existence.

my non-gaming GF tells me she looks like Ellen Page.

When they announced this game, they also announced Beyond two souls. I wasn't the only one to think she was playing in both games :p

I also thought that she was in both games. From the original appearance to the sound of her voice, I don't know why anyone wouldn't have thought it was her. I think she'd (or the Beyond Two Souls publisher) have a fair shot of pursuing this in court. Unfortunate that it had to be such an incredible game that did this.

Well I think Grayson Hunt from Bulletstorm looks a lot like Jack Black and I'm pretty sure that was just purely coincidental...

Shit like this happens all the time! No need to get your panties in a bunch about it.
Wait...is that a Dildo coming out of that gun?

Man, I really need to play Bulletstorm.

Hey it happens, let it go. For instance, I look EXACTLY like the Master Chief but haven't complained or attempted to sue Bungie in at least the last thirty days.

I never saw the similarity till it was pointed out to me, and even then I didn't care. The problem is there's only so many faces possible so everyone's going to resemble someone else. Countless times I get told certain individuals resemble me...

Maybe I should sue them for infringing on my likeness! Oh, but then I'd have to go after my son's allowance. And it'd then end up going to my father. Thanks dad.
I forget what the actual statistic is, but there is something like a 99% chance that if you live in the United States, somewhere over in Europe and/or China, specifically, there will statistically be a person who looks almost exactly like you.

More to the point, It seems fairly obvious that ND used her as a template for the character, it looks far too coincidental to be just...well, coincidence. I'm not sure why the hell people are getting on her case, though. I'm sure a lot of you would cream yourselves if you suddenly saw your face plastered on a videogame, but for the rest of us we would like to at the least be made aware of it first and asked permission.

Ellen Page is the ONLY person on earth who is a Caucasian Female who is aged 26 with the face of a 14 year old child and brown hair and brown eyes.

No other person on earth fits this description at all. You would have to go into UNCHARTED! territories to find undiscovered civilizations where there might be a possibility of anyone that remotely matches that description. Or you could use google and find about a million images.

Damn woman, chill out with the ego. Not everyone looks or is intended to look like you. Unless you plan to sue all of your lookalikes and force them to have plastic surgery you can't copyright your face. That's why things like Elvis impersonators can exist, they don't have to wear a DMCA bag over their heads to avoid using you "likeness".
It's not about ego. It's business.

You can't use an image of Miranda Kerr to advertise your product without her permission.

It really unfortunate that Miss Page has a game that is being released around the same time as Last of Us. For most part, she isn't making a big fuss out of it. Nonetheless, it's best such "coincidences" could be avoided in the future.
You can. If it's not her. You can if it is a character who is not named Ellen Page. You know why you can do that?

Because similarities will always exist.

Nathan Drake? His face is somewhere out there in life action. Do I hear him crying about someone using a model that looks kinda like him? No I don't. Ask yourself this. Why doesn't she sue? Because she can't. Otherwise she would have. You cannot copyright a face. As long as you don't pretend it IS the person the face looks like you have free range to do whatever the fuck you want!
Well, let's see...

First of all, of course Drake is out there, he was modeled after Nolan North, the guy who voiced him.

Secondly, you somewhat have a point, being a celebrity does no give you special rights over other people. However, there are measures taken to ensure people cannot use your likeness for specific things. In this case, she can't really do anything about it. This is the same reason shows like SouthPark always have that disclaimer in the opening that says that any celebrity likenesses are either used with permission, or are purely coincidental or legally spoofed.

Yes, it looks a fair bit like her. But is that enough? Is it enough that you have to fork out money just because a character you create looks like someone in real life? How many people bought the game because the girl looked like Ellen Page? How many would have not bought it had the girl looked different? I think they probably did make the character with Ellen Page in mind, especially considering the earlier ones, because Ellen Page looks like an innocent girl and that's the character they wanted, but I don't think that should be grounds for having to hire her, particularly when the face is this plain to begin with. It's not like she has her hair in a...tornado or something iconic, she's just got a round face with a large forehead and slightly wider eyes.

So I'm not the only one who thinks that Ellie bares a striking resemblance to Ellen Page? Come on, even her name is similar. I don't have a problem with it though. Probably because I'm not Ellen Page.

But I hope she doesn't sue Naughty Dog. I quite like Ellen Page. And this American culture of suing everyone for everything is really a bad habit. If it's not hurting anybody, let it go. I still can't get over the fact that my favorite actress is suing a French novelist for making a character that looks like her in a book. That's just silly. And censoring artists can set a very dangerous precedent.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, can't we all just get along?
That's pretty much my thoughts.

If you are going to do something like this though, you should give a heads up though.
