To be fair it's not like she just brought it up,a guy asked her:

"This has almost certainly been made clear to you several times, but are you aware how much you look like Ellie from "The Last of Us," a video game which came out about a week ago. She even sounds like you. So much so that almost everyone assumed it was you playing the role."

It has nothing to do with the release date or success of TLoU.

How can you sue someone on the basis that "One of their characters looks and sounds a little like me". Is that even possible? That is fuckign dumb, there's absolutely no ground for anyone to sue anyone here, unless the court system in USA/Canada in beyond fucked and has entered some kind of warped reality where every is a dumbass.

I kind of dumb the likeness was purely coincidental, but still.
For celebrities, yes.

That said, I would not consider this profiting of Miss Page's name. They aren't selling the game off her name.

Ellen Page is the ONLY person on earth who is a Caucasian Female who is aged 26 with the face of a 14 year old child and brown hair and brown eyes.

No other person on earth fits this description at all. You would have to go into UNCHARTED! territories to find undiscovered civilizations where there might be a possibility of anyone that remotely matches that description. Or you could use google and find about a million images.

Damn woman, chill out with the ego. Not everyone looks or is intended to look like you. Unless you plan to sue all of your lookalikes and force them to have plastic surgery you can't copyright your face. That's why things like Elvis impersonators can exist, they don't have to wear a DMCA bag over their heads to avoid using you "likeness".
It's not about ego. It's business.

You can't use an image of Miranda Kerr to advertise your product without her permission.

It really unfortunate that Miss Page has a game that is being released around the same time as Last of Us. For most part, she isn't making a big fuss out of it. Nonetheless, it's best such "coincidences" could be avoided in the future.

As someone who can't stand Ellen Page, I share her lack of appreciation. It's half the reason why I haven't bought the game yet.

The picture they used actually looks more like a young Jennifer Garner.
Damn it... make that a third of the reason.

Ellie underwent some changes. The new look Ellie that was in in the retail version looks younger with a "slimmer" face.
Sounds like something GLaDOS would say.

So I'm not the only one who thinks that Ellie bares a striking resemblance to Ellen Page? Come on, even her name is similar. I don't have a problem with it though. Probably because I'm not Ellen Page.

But I hope she doesn't sue Naughty Dog. I quite like Ellen Page. And this American culture of suing everyone for everything is really a bad habit. If it's not hurting anybody, let it go. I still can't get over the fact that my favorite actress is suing a French novelist for making a character that looks like her in a book. That's just silly. And censoring artists can set a very dangerous precedent.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, can't we all just get along?
I wouldn't mind if she did. Like a lot of people, when I heard that she was going to have a character in a game based off her I assumed it was The Last Of Us when I saw previews (the character's name is even Ellie). She is mainly upset because this could hurt Beyond Two Souls. I definitely see this causing confusion.

Until some article maybe 2 weeks ago, I thought Ellen Page WAS Ellie, causing me quite some cunfusion when I read in said article that Some Otheractress lend Ellie her voice. Huh.

seems like a money grab but if they can prove Pages face was used as a reference then I guess they owe her.

Its just a coincidence lets be real, sure Ellie looks a lot like Ellen Page but really I have seen tons of girls that age that have a similar look. Many people including myself didn't even make the connection until someone said something about it.

Well she can at least reassure herself that one of her two video games likenesses is in an actual game, even if it's not the one she worked for.

She is just upset that The Last of Us's Ellie is going to be better acted than Ellen Page's character in Beyond: Two Souls. I'm just making a joke, I have no idea if it will really be better. It just annoys me how smug she sounds when she gets upset about something like this.

Yeah I can't blame her for her accusations because I was actually under the assumption they had hired her to do the motion capturing and voice.

Hmm. Similar names. Similar faces. Both have hair. I guess Naughty Dog wanted her to appear in the game, but didn't get around to asking?

"Hey, wasn't their something we were supposed to do last week?"
"I don't think so. Oh look, Ellen Page just signed on for that Beyond Two Souls game."
"Oh fu..."
Or, perhaps it's just that the name Ellen is a fairly common name for an American woman, and average features with brown hair of medium length are also incredibly common.

While I do agree that Ellie from the game does bear some resemblance to Ellen Page, I don't think that's due to any attempt on their part to make her look like Ellen Page, and that it's more simply that

**Ellen Page has very common physical characteristics that are shared with millions of women**

Hell that's likely one of the reasons she was picked for Juno, her "typical average girl" look.

Hell I dated 3 girls that looked a lot like Ellen Page, just based on basic features, but I'm pretty sure they aren't upset about the likeness.

Can you copyright your likeness? I am not familiar with the laws about this. Do celebrities go around suing lookalikes?
Yes, your likeness is sorta protected in the United States. The most famous case of this is Back to the Future. Crispin Glover played George McFly in the movie, when they went to do the sequels. He did not sign on. Not only did they replace him with another actor, they used prosthetics that made the other actor look like Crispin Glover.

There is a rough likeness but judging from those two pics, I wouldn't say they are the spitting image of each other.

Could they have done more to make a difference? Of course but it's not like they made an exact likeness.

She should be flattered to be so wanted in the games industry, like she says she would have been if it wasn't for being in another game.

I could say Abigail Breslin looks like the girl from the Last of us.

Ok, you would have to style the hair a little differently but it's not like I am trying to compare her to Ruby Wax .

Man, where the hell are the people in this thread getting the idea that she's going to sue or making a big deal about it. She said this during an AMA(Ask Me Anything). It was a response to someone asking her about it. So much knee-jerk in this thread.

Well I think Grayson Hunt from Bulletstorm looks a lot like Jack Black and I'm pretty sure that was just purely coincidental...

Shit like this happens all the time! No need to get your panties in a bunch about it.
Quick question from someone who hasn't played Bulletstorm: why does that guy have a dildo protruding from the end of his gun?
That's actually the gun barrel heating up in preparation for a charged shot. In the case of this weapon it will fire out a blast of 100 compressed bullets which goes through enemies and disintegrates them into a pile of bones and dust.
Thanks. Your answer not only explains the picture but also why the game's called "Bulletstorm".

Oh, and I see what you're getting at with the Jack Black thing. I don't think the likeness is as striking as the Ellie/Ellen one, but you have a good point.
