is there any big company ANYWHERE that is going to get the hint and up their security? its getting really hard to feel sorry for companies whose learning capacity is on par with that of a lemming. the argument of "no security is perfect" really falls apart when hack after hack is showing how pathetic their security really is.

it will be sadly hilarious to see the internet taken over by hackers due to websites' collective refusal to ever learn.
Dude it doesn't matter how much you "up the security" someone will still find a way to hack it
Well yeah, but if you up the security enough it will take years and lot of money and anon has ADHD and no money so...
For things like the PSN or the larger, more important system (like the unreal network, which is probably why it's reportedly still secure) I would agree with you.

But for a forum how far do you go? Anything more then some basic defences and someone in charge of it who has a decent grasp of what he's doing is a waste of money. It would be like if someone drove by in a car and smashed your mailbox with a bat. Ya, you could have installed an automated defence system to protect the mailbox, but is it really worth it?

I am not saying that Epic games should have a strong security on their websites. Maybe just encrypt the email names and passwords. (Emails names too so they aren't sold to spambots.

What the hell? Epic has been great to everyone so who would want to hack them?
Are you serious? Epic has been a dick to a lot of people, look up on their history. Cliffy B. is an outright paranoid douchbag.
Sheesh, you really don't like him do you? I assume he tormented you as a child or something?

Aslong as no-one gets to hack any subscribtion based MMO sites or DD sites like GOG and Steam. Im not too bothered personaly as any personal info I put elsewhere is false.

It does make me worried that they are edging closer to steam. If they break that then theres a good chance every PC gamers is royally fucked.

Im hoping that with all this hacking news that Valve and the others will put in safeguards to stop hackers from stealing personal info and everyones steam accounts

Have no fear. Valve has been tightening the rains on their service for a long time, they actually challenged hackers to infiltrate their system several times. I don't know about GOG, as far as MMO's go - no idea, but MMO must have taken at least some measures,

Nothing personal, he just really did piss of a lot of people. Mostly when he went on a rampage as to why Unreal Tournament 3 wasn't as successful as he wished.

I'd be willing to bet that it was a couple of wannabes who wanted to get at some Gears of War 3 data, but couldn't get into the Unreal Network.

So, what? Hackers just put a bunch of developers on a dart board and hack whoever the dart lands?

This is just annoying now, are they trying to make a point, or are they doing it to piss us off? I'm thinking the latter at the point, and they need to get a life. Go outside or something, get reacquainted with the big burning ball of heat.

I'm going to leave for boot camp in a couple of weeks, then after boot camp they will send me to a college with a fucking guarantee that most of my time will be spent in a book. This is expected to last for years. So... Good luck with that new fangled internet and what not. Hope it's fixed when I get back.

I have a premonition that these guys would have pirated the humble indie bundle.
OT: It does not seem like hackers are gonna hack for the lulz anymore. They're just going to hack to make themselves noticed.

Taking one of the most beloved online twitch based FPS PC franchises and consolising the fuck out of it, there by alienating it's core audience...

Yeah, must have been pirates. It's always pirates when the PC is involved.

Likes Gears 1 for PC... Don't mind that it had already been one of the most hyped ecksborks 360 titles around and the console version had a leadtime of, what? 12 months? Or that the PC version was launched with all the fanfare of openning a utilities bill...

Nope, it was pirates that caused poor sales and so no Gears 2 for PC. (whoopty fuck and all that)
