I have to agree the with an earlier post. Screw censorship and what the hell does America think its doing (actually I find myself asking that question a lot, but moving on)? Like America can talk, the land of porn, or one of them anyway. Also a country adept at killing each other thanks equally to liberal gun laws and violence in entertainment. Compare that to Japan which has a rape and murder rate that is minuscule when compared to the U.S. And yet they have media entertainment that includes rape fantasy, incest, bdsm and all manner of what to a Western mind seems perverse. Ok, so there's some problems with train-groping and panty-theft. If that's your culture's worst problem, you ain't doing to bad. Apparently the Japanese are better at distinguishing between fantasy and reality than Americans, or maybe the fact they have this perverse media is why they don't rape and kill each other so much, its an outlet. Much like when I've had a bad day and I come home and play GTA or Max Payne et al.

Let the Japanese be I say, one country should not have the right to censor another, and Japan shouldn't have to isolate its media.

Well, to be fair, nothing was said about these games until one accidentally appeared in the US, so it seems reasonable to assume that people won't bother them if they don't see what they don't like.

That's because of the Japanese idea of "mushi"--if you ignore it, it's not actually a problem. People ignore these games because it's outside of their bubbles and they don't want to think about them, and since they ignore them, oh hey look, they don't actually exist and there's no problem!

It's not that the Japanese have never had people complain about these games, I'm sure that's happened plaenty of times previously, it's that there was never a big fuss about the games outside of Japan until recently.

Me and my friends went downtown to go club hopping a few weeks ago, and the girl I was with was groped at least a dozen times. And I can damn sure guarantee those guys didn't play RapeLay.

This whole situation throws me for a loop. I mean, advocacy groups are so pissed off about these games involving rape, but they have no problem with hentai including rape floating around the net? Yeah, public random groping. That's why there are women-only trains during the morning and evening rush hour. Fat people calling others fat, then crying like a baby when they think they were called fat. People blame video games for violence, yet no one is forcing you to buy games. It's the same with cigarettes. No one is putting them in your hand. Everyone who hates smokers and video games is only saying "I'm too stupid to think for myself, so make sure I don't get hurt because of how stupid I am."

If I could, I would get this game just to piss off anyone who gives a damn.

... The first part, no. They do not defend groping on trains, hence the measures taken against it.

The second part, why would that be a bad thing? Games should, like other media, be completely free as long as they aren't a direct attack towards a single individual (in which case it should be counted as harrassment).

Rape games are no worse than murder games. How many "people" do you kill in your daily CoD or CS match? And then you're probably doing it to real people on the other end of the computer screen. It still doesn't make you a mass murderer, because fiction does not equal reality. I don't know about you guys, but I would never ever go Sam Fisher in a Splinter Cell-scenario in real life, but I'm more than happy to do it on my computer screen. Because that's not real. No real danger is involved, no real people are involved. Noone gets hurt, noone really dies. There's a world of difference between reality and fiction, and if you can't see that, then you're the one that needs counseling.

... Then you're a worse person than the rapist. Because you want to utilize torture with the expressed purpose of causing as much pain and suffering as possible to the person, which is nothing less than sadistic and... evil. Take a step back and try to get some perspective before you let yourself be blinded by hate. If you do those things, then you're only lowering yourself to his level.

Since we're apparently covering anecdotes and strengthening our arguments by personal experience, I'll mention that I lived for years with my mother while she was in a very abusive relationship. I'll wager I've seen and experienced a lot more horror than you have on that level. But that is no reason whatsoever for me to lower myself to his level and become as bad as he is. Then he'd win, because I would lose the moral highground. I'm not telling you to forgive and forget, but I am telling you to prove that you are a better person than the one you seem to hate so much. You know, Andy. I look at this, and I'm trying to tell whether you're making a joke or that these games actually exist.

And I can't actually tell. Which sort of disturbs me.

I've seen quite a few titles for japanese games and movies for incountry...if he did make up those titles, he aint off the mark at all. It's probably more how the translation comes out. Of course, Young Girl's Prison read in the good ol USA, basically translates to Slave Maiden's Rape Hell.
Their idea of ignoring a problem til it goes away is unhealthy, but making the effort of keeping foreigners from seeing products that arent even being marketed to foreigners seems a bit silly, but benign. We(the US) don't mandate what is sold in their country(much as some people needing some valium would like to think otherwise), therefore it ain't our business. Vice Versa applies, though I am not sure what we (the US) don't market to foreign markets. I sometimes get the impression the US keeps its cupboards wide open while certain other countries keep their's closed.

Edit: Not trying to be self-centered country wise. I'd love to hear where other countries stand on what they market to foreigners.
