What the hell is "reverse sexual violence?"
more importantly, why is it banned while forward sexual violence is still ok?

Massive /golfclap to everyone denouncing these games.

Yes, the whole train-grope situation is rather more realistic, no arguments there. However I have to ask the question: How is this situation any different than the Jack Thompson claims on so called 'murder simulators' that you play and enjoy daily? One is murder, one is rape. Both are in the form of a game and even if your stomach churns at the idea (and I'm not entirely too happy with it either), it's still a game. There's obviously a market for it.

If you start making the argument that "rape games" push people to become actual rapists, then you better accept the argument that "murder games" like GTA, Prototype, Call of Duty and a myriad of others push people to go out and murder in real life.

To not accept that is to have hypocrisy boil over your very lips like a molten sludge of ignorance.

They're games guys. You might not like the subject matter, but that doesn't change what they are.

Apparently Raping is part of their culture

Off to rewrite the history books!!
It does seem odd that they are defending this "part of their culture" so thoroughly. I can't imagine there would be a revolution if the games were got rid of; but maybe women would be happier...

I'm not sure if I'm just putting western thinking into this, but any gamedeveloper like this has a very odd mind. Also - hiding the problem doesn't solve it! Maybe they were getting bad comments on their site from westerners or something??

...Wow. That is such a very, well, Japanese reaction. Foreigners don't like it, make so it foreigners can't see it, and the problem goes away.

It's like how, rather than deal with men thinking it's ok to grope women in the trains, they just create women-only cars and hope that will solve the problem.

And "defend our culture." Yeah, so, guys? That's not the "Japanese culture" you want to really be defending...
I agree.

Let me translate this into plain English:

Japan said:
This website cannot be browsed excluding Japan.
Yay, xenophobia! It's not like that's something you've never done before, Japan!

Japan said:
Some foreigners seem to be having an antipathy against EROGE.
Really?! What the heck are you talking about? The game's about simulated rape and sexual assault! What could possibly be wrong with that? There's nothing unwholesome about this game, and those darned 'foreigners' are wrong to protest it!

Japan said:
Therefore, We prohibited the access from foreign countries, to defend our culture.
Yes, because rape and train groping is such a big part of Japanese culture that we decided to block everyone else from seeing it, because we can. They had no right to protest simulated rape, after all.

Japan said:
Sorry for you of the fan that lives in a foreign country.
Because there are so many 'foreigners' (read: stupid gaijin that don't agree with us) that really liked a game about simulated rape?

Did I mention it's a game about simulated rape?

[/sarcastic rant over]

But in all seriousness, Japan, you know I love you and your wacky culture, so why'd you have to give me another reason not to visit you? Why must you hurt me in this way?

I was feeling sorry for their "mis-understood" culture untill I saw these truley sickening words. Even in their culture they would know that a slavery and a hell are bad and wrong things, right?
So is mass-murder? I take it you've never played Prototype of course.
(Hey, the western world considers different things taboo. Stuff shouldn't be banned for being distasteful)

1.) Funny, how the Japanese game developer does NOT sell games to either the States or Europe, but only to people in Japan. So unless YOU yourself live in Japan, your nitpick here is invalid.

2.) So just because the public learned about this a few weeks ago means that they did not have fans BEFORE this happened? Im not really seeing your point here.

Let me add some more to this:

1.) Why are people getting up in arms about a game that they probably didnt even knew existed until it was accidentally put up on amazon.com?

2.)A majority of the people getting mad over a Japanese game made for Japanese people more than likely are not from Japan, Im starting to see a pattern here.

3.)Some people said that if their culture is raping women and train groping, and that they should not defend it*, thats like saying you live in Europe and think American television is too violent, therefore America should change what is shown on TV. *[small]note: not quoted for accuracy[/small]

4.)Most importantly, its a game, when did we forget that? where are the actual victims of this game? All I see is some fictional characters on the picture. So if people are getting mad about this game, they are more than likely the same people that said Manhunt was a "murder simulator".
Seconded...

It is a game. A game is not an excuse for women being groped no more than Doom is an excuse for Columbine. The people committing these crimes are people who would have committed them before games were invented. A game exists as a reaction to society not as a cause. I've played rape games, LYNN has played rape games and she is even worse than I am about them since I only go near sex games once a blue moon. However, guess what? Neither of us has grabbed and violated some random stranger or acquaintance.

So while I find the Japanese reaction a bit much and definitely not helping, I can understand where they are coming from. We didn't kill Manhunt because somebody got garroted or killed with a paperbag, mostly because I like to falsely believe that people aren't fucking morons. Murder, rape, etc were happening long before any game came out.

It is a game, nothing more. As for the problems with groping and rape, that is a different problem altogether.

I'm confused... none of you were up in arms about bashing games like Manhunt, yet RapeLay is pissing you off? I fail to see how raping someone is WORSE than bashing someone's skull in with a blunt object.

This thread makes me chuckle quite a bit. First off, it is a game. People like to do what they like to do. Whether it be hardcore porn or playing some dirty games. How would you feel if all American porn got the censorship that was blurred to no-point? Or our violent games were completely banned due to violent content? Leave it alone.

Second to those who say train groping is a huge problem, it really isn't. I have lived in Japan for years and I never see it. Trust me I always watch out for it because I would love to crush some pervert. It isn't like you are a girl therefore everytime you step out of your home someone touches your ass. Yes there are perverts out there, but just stand up to them, they are harmless.

Edited to say: here -> Japan

This. American society has been so desensitized to mindless violence, but whenever a bad sexual game comes up we go up in arms to destroy Japan.

Now this may be perverted but most eroge games don't always involve rape, personally one of my favorites is sexy beach and that's all 100% consensual... not forced at all.
although considering all this hoopla about this... really makes me rethink my future trip to japan very greatly.

this may sound like a stupid-ass reply, but it's because rape victims could find it offensive that it's glorified and games like Manhunt are just going for the gritty realism and games about rape are pushing the envelope a bit too far.

I know rape is wrong and no I won't be buying this game but I live in Japan, If you don't like the stuff that goes on here then why are you ripping into them for saying 'Well you don't like it so you can't see it' It's weird but it's fair enough, I'd be fine with it if there was controversy over here, but there really isn't, so surely its none of your business? :S

(Just to clarify, rape is bad.)
