I've noticed they point to a lack of legislation in place causing it to be a piracy haven, and yet I haven't seen many statistics on how effective that legislation is. And keeping a piracy 'watch list' seems about as stupid an idea as I have ever heard.

Let Canada be Canada. They can keep their government run healthcare, we'll keep our shitty and ineffective IP laws.

Both of us can keep our smug sense of superiority.

I don't know if they have noticed but maybe they should put USA on the list it's just as bad there as it is here. People usually don't pirate because it's morally wrong not becasue they will get in trouble. Basically if a canadian or american really wants to pirate something they can its not that hard in either country.

Gee, last time I checked it was illegal to download music/movies/games here. Its just our government doesn't kick down our door, arrest us, and let third-party organizations slap us with insane monetary punishments.

Must be this whole "freedom" thing I keep hearing about.

So, uh, what they're saying is "Canada isn't in a companies pocket, that' bad, keep watching them until a company has Canada in it's pocket"?

I'm not cynical, that's just what this sounds like.

In the words of Morissey: "America is not the world".

So the USA should stop demonizing other nations with this kind of overbearing policy. Nations can take whatever steps they want in their approach to piracy and no other nation should contest them for it.
your correctness is extremely refreshing.
i also cant seem to find an obi-wan "wretched hive of etc. etc."
OT:
Oh yeah! we are sooooo bad. look at us and all our... FREE GAMES!! come on up, American gamers!

So now in the states people consider us as pirates living in igloos? Well I'm fine with that.
Don't forget that we ride our fierce polar bears during our raids.
Don't you forget our flaming arrows dipped in maple syrup!

I love Canada, I can download pirated material and not take any flak! (crimanally of course). Canada RULES!
That's not exactly how it works. If they catch you, you will get in trouble. It's just that the RCMP doesn't have the Orwellian Powers that the police in the states do to catch Pirates.
Yes, you will get in some trouble, but you will not be cut off from the net, and can not be charged with a criminal offense. (as long as you pay your fine and are not distrubiting pirated material.)
