In the words of Morissey: "America is not the world".

So the USA should stop demonizing other nations with this kind of overbearing policy. Nations can take whatever steps they want in their approach to piracy and no other nation should contest them for it.
The American government doesn't back and is not above the laws of the ESA any more than Canada. If I read correctly the ESA is a member of the International Intellectual Property Alliance. Still, I can tell you from personal experience this isn't going to have much of an affect on pirating. Like most supranational organizations, simply adding a country's name to a list of "offenders" does not stop the offense from happening. They just do a worse job at finding these piraters.

Yes, we are oh so evil, always plotting how to pirate copyrighted material. We even walk around with eye patches and parrots on our shoulders, occasionally muttering "Arrr, eh?" as we travel across the snowy terrain in our dog sleds bearing the Jolly Roger flag.
Man, my dogsled broke the other day, you know how hard it is to get across this vast tundra hauling that flag around?
That I do, my friend. I personally prefer to patch the problem with pirated copies of F.E.A.R 2. Only a temporary fix obviously.

In early 2008 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/81380-ESA-Says-Canada-a-Persistent-Problem-in-Fight-Against-Piracy], the ESA submitted a filing to the USTR claiming the country's "legal deficiencies" and lax intellectual property rights enforcement "discourage publishers from establishing viable and legitimate markets" and was causing damage to the industry as a whole.
Wasn't there an article on the Escapist a few months back saying Canada was becoming a new hub for gaming? That a lot of video game developers were moving there to reap the generous tax exemptions?

Arr! Canada is obviously not its own country duh. America has every right to tell us how to run Canada, because we obviously can't. We should drive our economy down to their standards so we can be JUST LIKE THEM :)

The docks of the city of Athkatla, in Amn, along the Sword Coast region of Faerun, specifically from the game Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. Notable landmarks include the Thieves guild at the lower left side.

Piracy truly is out of control in Canada and needs to be stopped. Just the other day I was out on my scooner and got boarded by some scurvy dogs. I think one of them was even wearing an eyepatch. They stole me rum and sang a piratin' tune as they sailed away.

Honestly, there is no reason to pirate anything, if the economy is in good condition right? So if people want piracy to be reduced maybe they should work on fixing the global economy starting with the USA which has for the greater part caused more than enough harm with it's Fiat money system.

Corporations don't want to face the fact that people don't have the capital to pay for food, shelter, and video games. Over-saturation of the video game market means there are less options but the companies don't care to slow down releases enough so we have 3+ GOW clones that came out within the 2-3 month period before GOW3 comes out. Right? YES!

Piracy is not an issue, Macroeconomics is an issue. Which is easier for the companies to blame? We all know the answer. They can cry about how they're not making enough surplus for their vacation's but then again all is fair in the art of war.

I love Canada. They are so much more laid back than america.
The U.S. tried to prosecute somebody in Canada for selling Marijuana seeds online in the U.S.
Canada basically said Fuck you. I love em'

Also, thank you for giving me the urge to play Baldur's Gate 2 again. I never did beat it. I wonder how many other people immediately recognized that picture? I would have recognized ANY map from the forgotten realms games.

As for piracy, There ain't much I can do about it, so I don't. If Canada is a haven for pirates, then I guess we'll see what happens.

Because all twenty pirates here are such a threat. /sarcasm

Really, though, I'm fairly certain there are more pirates in America then there are people in Canada.
