I'm pretty sure
It is completely up for you to decide if the top stops or not. In my mind it did because we and he see the children faces but its completely up to you I would love if the top didn't stop though!
Yeah, it's really left up to the viewer. I find that it seems more thematically correct for him to be awake, but Nolan also wanted to leave us with the haunting reminder that these characters can never really truly be sure when they're awake or dreaming again.

Then again, there (to me anyway) seemed to be certain hints that he really was dreaming. For one, when he saw his children they were EXACTLY as he remembered his previous moments with them. And the same age! Makes you wonder... I'm gonna see it again tomorrow and see if any other clues pop out for me.
Again? So soon?

Anytime I really dig a movie I tend to see it twice in quick succession in the theatres. Sort of a ritual o mine.

Best non-Pixar...
So you're pretending Toy Story 3 was better than Inception...hmmm...
Okay, your call.

Yeah, I just saw the movie yesterday with my friend and both of our minds were blown.

Being a hopeful film student in training, I was looking at every little detail I could on my first viewing, and aside from some very little tiny editing issues (they quick-cut-ed a bit too often) the entire movie was great. Personally, to me, while it may not be exactly a life changing movie, it certainly was a perspective changing movie for me.

And yes, that last shot was extremely hair-pulling. Damn you Nolan!

Okay, 3 things (which probably means at last 5)

1) Loved the movie. Almost went to see it a second time IMMEDIATELY after getting out of the theater! Wasn't originally planning to go at all until I saw the Movie Bob review, so thanks, Bob! :)

2) It did remind me a little of _DreamScape_, BUT _DreamScape_ just (IMHO) treated dreams like they were our personal playgrounds. It never explored the idea that dreams are full of things we can't consciously seem to control: our guilts, our regrets, our fears, and our hopes. _Inception_ does that aspect extremely well (especially for a main-stream movie). THAT is what sets it apart from several dozen OTHER 'dream' movies I can think of. In fact, I think it explores the psychology better than Lem's "Futurological Congress" did.

3) Ending: okay, maybe the ending was a little predictable, but I believe there was a logical reason for that ending. It wasn't just shear "mess with the heads of the audience" stuff. Have other people mentioned that after Cobb comes out of the dream of the 12 men in ... where was it? Brazil?... he never gets a chance to properly check his totem? He never checks it again until the very end of the movie. If he ever does wake up, would he find himself back with the Chemist before the beginning of the REAL mission? Maybe even realizing that he doesn't Have to do the mission to go home, all he really has to do is forgive himself? (hey, it worked for Dorothy in Oz) (Of course, he'd still have to find some way to get his kids back.)
Or maybe Mal was right all along, and if Cobb would just wake up one more time he'd be back with her and they could live happily ever after.

4) My idea, which you can put in your head if you want to: Nolan has planted the idea that "Our world may not be real." in the minds of millions of people. [Didn't the Buddha say that first? :)] So, the movie isn't ABOUT Inception, it's an ACT of Inception. ;-)

5) [sort of Spoiler, but it really isn't important to the movie, so read it if you want] Minor point: has anyone posted about what the numbers might mean (if anything)? What was it 582-391? Spells "Luc-yD." on my cell phone. Let's all read WAY too much into that (ooo, maybe it's something to do with "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds!") ... and have fun not knowing.

Seeya. It's been real.

I never get the 'spoiler' concept. For me, I always enjoy a good film regardless of whether or not I know what's going to happen. It seems strangely like saying you should only bother watching a film/reading a book once, because every other time you know what's going to happen.

Oh ok, Sixth Sense. I'll agree the term spoiler fits for that one!

And as for Inception. I saw it this afternoon. And YES: It's awesome. Go and see it if you haven't.

Saw this yesterday and while I think it's not as good as the Dark Knight I did think it was an incredible film, that I thoroughly enjoyed and had me on the edge of my seat. Full price!

Excellent review, Bobby. I've been looking forward to this for a year now and I was more than thrilled at the outcome.

I loved everything about the movie so much that I've seen it three times since release. The pounding and slightly electric music (Zimmer is a god), the way dreams compound into eachother, the creep-tastic projections... But the thing I loved the MOST was this:

EVERYBODY LIVED.

I swear to god, in every single thriller film these days, someone has to have some stupid dramatic death that serves no purpose other than to heighten the drama in the cheapest way possible. In this movie, *everyone* got a happy ending whether or not *you* thought it was real. I loved it. I kept expecting Yusuf, the drug dealer guy, to get a bullet to the brain but he turned out to be a total badass. And even though Saito didn't make it in the final dream - he turned into a badass! He chucked a grenade at the bad guys for the team, and he seemed to turn into a more thoughtful person instead of just a shrewd business man after becoming an old soul.

Even Fischer got out pretty good, and he was supposed to be the victim.

Also, I loved the ending. The movie is about the question - how can you know if anything is real? - and it is NOT about the answer. It was also the first time Cobb didn't need to look at the top to know that this was reality - he was happy, at peace, and finally free of his guilt. For me, I saw it wobble which it never did in the dream state. That tells me more than enough.

Beautiful to the end. I haven't been this pleased by a movie since District 9, and even then I still wasn't geeking out over it as much as this film.

Go see it ASAP! Throw all your money at Christopher Nolan! He must make more!

As you said Bob, it was awesome. Although, I did enjoy Toy Story 3 a little more just because it's closer to my heart (I'm one of the people who grew up along with Andy).

Still, I haven't thought this much about the theme of a movie since I saw Fight Club. It was excellently done, and I think that this is the perfect example of a movie that needs to be seen multiple times to fully comprehend it.

Oops, I got it wrong! The numbers were 528-491. (Yeah, I just went to see it again. No, Not just for that.)

Spells "Kathy." on my cell phone. :)
This is clearly highly significant!
(VERY kidding. I doubt the numbers mean anything at all, but I think it would be amusing if they did mean something.)

[And, yes, I watched (and over-analyzed) "The Prisoner" way too much as a kid. Thanks for asking. :)]

Got me excited to see it! I was only sorta half on-board before (mostly because I can't stand Ellen page from Juno).
Totally agree with the commentary on the "general movie going audience"
lol'd at Carl being the demographic.

I see what you did there.

This movie was incredible. It's one of those films that I will still be pondering in a week. I'm glad I didn't watch past the spoiler warning, since
I had no idea about the whole "subconscious dead wife" thing beforehand. It's good that it was a surprise.

For everyone saying "this film ripped off XYZ" bear in mind Nolan's been working on the script for nine years according to Wikipedia...

The comparison to The Matrix is pretty good since this film probably also contains the best action/fight scene since the Government Lobby.

I saw it, absolutely amazing.

Although saying that it's the best "non-Pixar" movie implies that Pixar made a movie better than it, which is false.
