Whoa, I didn't even know this was coming out. I'm so in the dark on movie news lately. Now my pirate ship avatar is gonna seem like trend-following...

I'll see it eventually. I'm a sucker for anything pirate-related (it comes from growing up in Charleston and having history on the subject all around).

Well that's disappointing. I was hoping this new one could get back some of the charm the fist and second one had.

I saw it yesterday, and yeah it wasn't brilliant. But I still preferred it to the third one. I agree that the action scenes seemed to be lacking the first three films flair but it was still an enjoyable enough watch. I would recommend checking it out.

Bob always hated this franchise, what were the odds that he would even allow himself to just check out and enjoy a summer popcorn flick based on a franchise he loathes?

If you hate the first 3 which were ok movies fun not groundbreaking or high art or anything, but they are just fun to chill out and veg to and laugh a bit eat some munchies etc.

Bob went into this movie wanting to hate it he hated everything about the rest, unless they pulled a miracle and totally changed the whole formula about the series thusfar then there was no way in hell he would even give it an its eh but watachable.

Granted if you are a high minded elitist or just plan hated the first 3 hated johnny depp hated disney then of course just skip it.

If your just into having a decent time and willing to just stfu and veg for 2 hours then you might like it, EIther way despite what bob or anyone says this movies is going to to sell more tickets than paris hiltons vagina.

I was one of those few who didn't like the first PotC, so I knew I wasn't going to watch this one.

You didn't have throw up a disclaimer for me that "THIS MOVIE SUCKS" because I knew it was going to suck since they announced they were extending the trilogy to add three more movies a few years ago. And that 3rd movie was horrendous. Only the first was really decent, and it degraded severely afterwards, culminating into a disastrous mess in that 3rd movie.

Wasn't going to watch it. Still not going to watch. But thanks for giving me a few insightful reasons to avoid as opposed to what I was going to say to anyone who asked: "It just sucks. I know it does".

Side note: I rather liked Memoirs of A Geisha. I thought it was well acted, and it was a beauty to look at. Maybe those things have nothing to do with Mr. Marshall, but still, it wasn't a bad film.

sorry bob but regardless of your opinion i'm still going to see it. Alot of critics said Thor wasn't worth it and it was. I kinda think you have something against johnny depp anyway, and whether you do, don't think you do, or don't, I'm still gonna use that excuse to go see this movie. What would have been needed to say was "if you liked the first 3 you won't like this" to get me to not see it. but i did like the first 3 and frankly if the third didn't suck the forth will, if only to make the fifth(if they make one) seem better.

"This movie sucked."

It's the 4th one. No film series (EVER) has lasting appeal after a 4th one came out.
Ever.

As far as I'm concerned, the first movie was brilliant, and since then the quality just went downhill.

seems like a lot of hate for a mediocre movie
sounded as if you were going into this movie already pissed and then just nitpicked all the bad stuff and exaggerated the mediocre stuff

i bet it isn't as bad as the last airbender

I liked it. I went to see Sparrow wobble around the screen and be funny and action scenes, and pirates. And I got it, and I'm pleased.
So yeah. It wasn't as good as the first three, but it was nice. Not bad imo.

I can't believe. Nothing can be worse than Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Is a metafisical impossibility!

The movie cost roughly $200 Million to make. Johnny Depp also takes Schwarzenegger's crown for most money paid to one actor for one movie. Schwarzenegger got $30 million for Terminator 3 and Johnny Depp got $55.5 million for this.
Hmm... I think that I would be more than willing to make a crap movie for $55.5 million.

This probably offsets The Ninth Gate then. Too bad for Mr. Depp. Then again, who needs credibility when you're filthy, FILTHY rich.

I might still see it. Frankly no movie has kept me interested through plot since The Departed. If it has laughs and action then it's probably worth seeing. Bob is also kind of an elitist so I'm not sure how much I can trust his opinion on this, it probably wouldn't converge with mine at all.
