Anyone who's criticizing the repetition in the CoD series, keep in mind that there were two studios involved, and that only one of them makes games. The other just flat-out replicates Infinity Ward.
Escapist hate towards CoD and Halo?

I'm very tempted to put the CoD and Halo hatred down to hipster-ish, sociologically driven causes, and that may be closer to the truth, but here's a more noble reason: CoD and Halo are recognized as awesome games to the exclusion of games that are equally as good but don't get nearly the attention. That said, I love Halo, and have an on-and-off relationship with CoD. Halo's campaigns have always had a certain style to them, and they've all had consistently awesome art direction and music. Bungie is also very supportive of its community, and I have a lot of respect for them as a developer. Furthermore, Halo's multiplayer - when played as intended - is very cerebral. It feels so different than other first person shooters I've played that I've found the Dicta Bölke to be more useful than any squad based fire and maneuver or room clearing tactics. Furthermore, CoD, while admittedly having its ups and downs, with considerably more downs than ups recently, has its moments. The Black Ops campaign, while short and with its flaws, was interesting, and had great visual direction. I don't enjoy its multiplayer too much except for quick games with my friends, but it's not rage inducing. Of course, pretty much everything about MW2 sucked except for the Spec Ops, but WaW and CoD 4 were both pretty awesome in my opinion, CoD 4 undeniably so. I still play both from time to time, after all.

really? flat out copies huh... I personally like the story of black ops better than cod, at least it was longer than 4 hours... that and what are they going to do about multiplayer? Take a successful concept and throw it out the window? If anything they improved the multiplayer and made it quite a bit more balanced.InfiniteJacuzzi said:

edit: On the topic of this, gotta agree with the halo fans thinking their game is the best, that and COD is so annoying at this point because we have 3 games that are basically the same in the multiplayer aspect, and the fact that all the map packs are over priced...

halo hatred i dont really understand, i personally love the games and the universe, and maby it doesnt update the core gameplay that much, but then again, why should it? it feels perfectly fine. The stories are usually pretty good (books included) and has some of the best kept continuity ive seen in a franchise. Yeah its probably not the greatest game on earth ( i think half life or portal is closer to it) but its the franchise that really brought FPS to consoles and has introduced multiple innovations like forge and theater mode. that and i can play the campaign over and over just for fun, which really shows how seriously a studio takes their game.

COD is deserving more of its hate every game they release...and COD was one of the first FPS franchises ive ever played. but once world at war passed it all went to hell, and every one is a tedious hypnotic clone with different skin.

Sure, it looks great and the gunplay is pretty damn good, though guns are supposed to have recoil.
Guns in Black Ops are more like bullet lasers.
More to the point: Kill streaks.

Sure, first few minutes are fun, then a chopper gunner mow me down at my spawn point like 10 times in a row.
And people not dying when you kill them.
That's really fucking annoying.
And as for Halo... None of them really put that much of an impression on me.

Call of Duty I understand to a point. I think through Call of Duty 4 they were well-made games with a tense atmosphere and realistic feel. After that they became more than a little derivative, and I understand the hate.

Secondly, it gets hate because some of the gameplay concepts it created or popularized have gone on to become shooter staples, allowing for a lack of innovation in the rest of the genre. This, again, is a stupid complaint. It basically amounts to, "Halo was good, so now everyone rips it off and there's no originality, so Halo sucks." Blaming unoriginality on the revolutionary game that first presented the oft-copied elements? Seriously?
Also, the story has much, much, much better than most people seem to realize. Like really, really good. Seriously.

There are even "dedicated" haters who elect some target game or company to hate. For example, in every thread or news post about Blizzard you'll probably see one or two people who always post bashing blizzard. It's popular, so it's cool to hate.

Meh, halo Reach gains points with me as it's a console shooter with a map editor (albeit a restrictive one) and more depth/colour than people think it has, and the only thing I dislike about cod is how many people play it(Causes other games to become ghost towns).
Cant blame the studios though, hell if I had a fanbase that large and insane, I sure as hell wouldn't change anything until I was DAMN sure they were gona like it.

Everyone? Well, I can take or leave COD now (used to think it was a greatest thing since sliced bread) but I'm quite partial to some Halo. Though I only really got into that series once the games stop featuring Master Chief as a principal "character", someone who will always remain (to me) as a faceless non-entity completely devoid of any charisma or personality. The games themselves were still fun enough though.
Also, Halo multiplayer reminds me of Unreal Tournament. For those that remember when facing down your enemy in some deathmatch would result in an epic battle (often lasting as long as 8 seconds), as opposed to the over-before-you-even-know-it antics of COD.
