eh, speak for yourself. While I don't like EA, and I hate buying new games, I'm going to buy Dragon Age 2 because the first one was good and I love BioWare. I usually only ever bother with big games like that if i love the company (Bethesda, BioWare, Valve, etc.)ItsAPaul said:And its not getting bought because its $60 on PC. Hopefully horrible sales will make EA change its mind on the pricing.
Haha, I didn't mean to make it sound like it did. I was just using your post as a springboard into my own thing. I couldn't agree more, to outright have a sex scene in a game would be tasteless, it's fine by me that they did the fade to black and let the imagination do the rest. Dragon Age sex scenes are exactly like ME2. Kissing, almost nude, fade to black. The only thing that really drove them home as tasteful and appropriate is that the voice acting was completely top notch on DA:O. Not that it was bad on ME2, but there was a visible direction the dialog took as the person you were pursuing liked you more. I went for Morgana, and she was a very different person when it got to the point you could finish the romance with her. The Romance was much better done in DA:O than it was in ME. The music in DA:O also was absolutely perfect. All the elements complimented each other so well, it actually did enhance the story of the game, especially right before that final epic battle. It's a shame you don't like the game, it came to a fantastic conclusion.ZeroMachine said:Never said it didn't, and never said they shouldn't exist. Stories can and do at times have sex in them, because people in the real world have sex and it's something they can relate to.
It's the same as a book or a movie depicting sex in it's story. It's usually used to add to the world or the story.
Books use imagination.
Sex in the uncanny valley, though, is just strange. That's the only reason I don't enjoy sex scenes in games.
I've gone after the relationships in Mass Effect 1 and 2 and, I have to say, they feel so forced and awkward that although it added to the overall story in a good way, the events themselves just felt wrong. And I'm not even talking about pixelated side-boob.Baresark said:I completely understand that you probably in some form find them distasteful. That is why they are optional to the story. You do not need to seek the ingame relationship if you don't wish to, but to say they are wrong or should not be in there, well that is just crazy.ZeroMachine said:Movies show real people.Jesus Phish said:Bioware tells stories.

The thing I like about having them in the game is that they can offer a depth to the story if I so choose to pursue that in the game. I remember in Mass Effect 2 I pursued that girl who is always covered completely in that suit in hopes of seeing what they look like underneath. I didn't, but it added a strange dimension and depth to story that made it feel all the more real.
I've never liked Bioware's romance writing. I feel like they don't know how to portray that stuff correctly. I can relate to the connection between Monkey and Trip in Enslaved better. Or, hell, even John Marston and Bonnie in RDR, and that never even goes anywhere
Mass Effect 1's sex scene really does feel like shitty porn to me. 2's was better, but only in the fact that it didn't feel like shitty porn, but instead like a stupid Hollywood "romance", which, and let's be honest here, is just bumping uglies.
(For the record, in 1, I've gone for both Ashley and Liara, while in 2 I went for Miranda. And I've never seen the way the romances play out in Dragon Age, that game can barely hold my interest.)
I wish I did too. It's one of those situations where I feel like I should like it, but the thing is, the game takes way too long to pick up the pace for me. I wish it all felt as epic as the battle of Ostagar did. Unfortunately, it dulled down just a little too much for me.Baresark said:Haha, I didn't mean to make it sound like it did. But it's highly disturbing to think about in the order of fellatio followed by decapitation then dismemberment. Rather terrifying, really.JediMB said:
This is what we're talking about. Not necessarily in that order.

Also, ever tried to meta-game for sex in real-life? Let me know how that works out.
